When the sorcerer Zagan decides to participate in an auction selling the goods of the now dead Archdemon Marchosias, he expects to find items of untold power. What he finds instead is a rare white-haired slave elf named Nephilia, and he immediately spends all his money to purchase her, much to the bewilderment of those around him. However, the secret reason behind Zagan's investment was that he had actually fallen in love with her at first sight.
Unfortunately, Zagan has a problem: he is socially inept and has no idea how to express his true feelings, leading to many misunderstandings between him and his new companion. But slowly, the two begin to understand each other, and love begins to bloom.
This was a story I wasn't expecting much. I've heard countless stories with the same plot before that sound interesting. But once you read it, You realize the story isn't good at all.
Thankfully this story manages to actually be fairly entertaining. It's by no means the next big thing. But there is a charming feeling as the family slowly grows.
The Elf girl is probably the best part if not the Dragon girl. They both manage to be the right amount of adorable without being obnoxious
Only thing I don't like Is how the world is explained with Slavery and everything. Normally In stories with Slavery
as part of It. I prefer them not to go into to much detail about how dark It is and everything. I do feel the story could've gone without all the depressing things like sacrifices.
I think the story would've also been a touch better If it had the MC come across bandits with the Main female lead being a captured slave.
Finally I feel that the MC should've been a Demon King since the start with no Demon Council or anything. Just imagine that a couple thousand-year-old Demon King feared throughout the land. That he can't communicate with one girl
From what little art there is, It's actually pretty good.
Overall, This is a pretty good story and I hope this gets more recognition
"I, One of Twelve Demon Lords, Hired an Elf as a Servant, but I'm too shy to say I like her." Review of Vol 1 and 2.
Story: The "Slave Elf" romance is just a sub-plot, it's actually one of those Let's-Save-The-World stories... The Church are Sorcerer hunters, brutally slaughtering any sorcerer they can find, until our Protagonist, who becomes loved and respected by men and woman alike, ends that long war to unite against a stronger enemy. A typical shounen story, enemies not being killed when defeated, no kissing or sex, and a protagonist with a "unique" power.
Art: The art if fine, illustrations
isn't a big part of Light Novels.
Characters: Honestly, it's typical rom-com characters. The Boy is too awkward to speak, so he acts cool without saying what he really wants. And The Girl is too shy to speak her mind. Of course we have the standard "dark hero" protagonist with a super-mega-awesome unique skill that makes him the strongest in the world. In other words, it's all very mainstream. To try and be different, there are many claims that in the past, the protagonist was evil-ish. He killed invaders / burglars, he didn't save people in danger etc. But that's always just people talking about the past, now the protagonist is like a typical hero of justice.
Overall, The romance is quite sweet and adorable, like teenagers that have yet become sexually mature. But there is nothing that makes this story unique. It feels like a light novel / manga fan wanted to try making a not-so-original story. The writing itself isn't bad, but it sure as hell ain't a romance story about a slave elf and her socially awkward master that it was said to be.
-+ Cute Romance (18 years old, blushing while holding hand)
- Loved-By-Everyone Protagonist
- "Slave Elf" in name only. At worst, she's a servant.
- The Church vs Sorcerer's war being dropped.
Did you like Naruto, where everyone becomes friends and live happily ever after? If so, you might enjoy this story. Me, I will probably find something else to read.
