Synopsis

Engrossed in the family business of traditional doll making, Wakana Gojou is a reserved high school freshman without friends. Harboring painful memories of a childhood friend's disdain toward his interest, Gojou cannot relate to his classmates and their pastimes, eventually isolating himself.

Gojou has yet to perfect his crafting of dolls' faces, but is exceptionally skilled at making their clothes. His finesse with the sewing machine is soon discovered by his beautiful classmate Marin Kitagawa, whose boldness and honesty Gojou both admires and envies. Instantly, she shares with Gojou her own hobby: she likes to cosplay as characters from erotic video games.

However, Kitagawa cannot sew her own costumes, leading her to seek Gojou's expertise. Now, as he is dragged along to the charming girl's endless cosplay-related affairs, Kitagawa becomes his first friend who fully accepts him. Thus, although polar opposites, their relationship slowly blossoms through their aptitude in helping each other in the intricate world of cosplay.

Preliminary (42/? eps)
Funny, loveable characters, slow-ish development.

Take two polar opposites, an open, outgoing and stylish gyaru, and an easily flustered, shy, old-fashioned outsider who is into doll- and clothes-making. Even though they sound so extremely different, they click so incredibly well with each other, and I just love their interactions throughout the entire manga. The female lead goes against every stereotype of a gyaru, and does not show any restraint when it comes to showing what she likes, thus being able to completely nerd out over some things.

The manga takes some tangents when it comes to clothes and cosplay, so if you are absolutely not interested in ...

Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (65/? eps)
First of all I'd like to say that I understand why people like this. The drawing style was cute and the main characters are likeable.

ART 8/10
The art was solid. I like the way the characters are designed. I don't really have anything to say about it.

CHARACTERS 7/10
I personally thought that the story was interesting and I did like reading it. There wasn't really characters that I disliked. I enjoyed seeing the main characters getting closer.

ENJOYMENT 7/10
I liked it, what can I say.

SPOILER WARNING for those watching the anime or not caught up with the manga.

Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru (My Dress-Up Darling) is a series I had mixed feelings about. It started off strong but almost as if it were scared of commitment, it falls back to formula. After thinking over what happens (or doesn't happen) in the manga, I found under its pretty exterior very little worth and I thought less and less of 'Sono Bisque Doll.'

My main complaint with 'Sono Bisque Doll' is that it's not aware of what it wants to be. If it is aware then it fails to ...
