I actually think the premise and power system are fresh and are some of the cool parts of the show, but so far the execution is pretty basic and the cast isn’t all that, so nothing to write home about in my book.

I do think it’s better than those other shows you’ve mentioned, but I’m not really a big fan of either of those, so that doesn’t say much.

If you’ve kept up with it so far then hopefully the rest of the season will hit harder for you (and for me), but even if it doesn’t, being just an okay battle shounen isn’t the worst thing in the world.

To be fair, I give a lot of 8s to anime that many think are mid, so I understand your point. Like I personally gave Dandadan a 7 even though most people give it an 8 or higher. I haven't read the manga but from what I know about the mangaka, she seems very cool. I do hope we get more cool fights because as of now, that's the main thing missing to make this anime an 8.5 for me.

A show doesn't need to be deep to be great, it just has to be enjoyable. And Hell's Paradise and Chainsaw Man aren't exactly Oscar material either. CSM is equally mindless fun and Hell's Paradise might be a little more contemplative but relies more on shock value. I like both a lot (well, I like the anime for CSM. The manga fell off hard) but I enjoy Gachiakuta just a little more so far than either of those. Just a little. I tend to rate shows based on how much I enjoy them, rather than attempting to critique how much Scorsase would appreciate their cinematic quality.
