I am on episode 5 of Monster. In my view plot is going pretty slowly. As for now I have no clue how the story can go for around 70 eps. I heard a lot people saying it's masterpiece, but for me it's boring. Will something actually interesting happen and if so around which ep? I am considering dropping it.

Its best of manipulation and very dark story so even if there are boring parts for the flow of the story, it becomes a truly immersive work afterwards.

seeing as many anime as I have i can say this is unique which is more then enough reason to watch, uts admittedly slow at first but if u like stories with conspiracies and crime drama you'll really love this. I personally stopped the anime at like ep 19 but then I bit later I decided to pick up the manga(I read really fast so pace became a non issue). But when I did decided to revisit the anime I came to realise this is an incredible adaptation and very high quality. Its very slow but if u take your time who knows maybe this will become one of your favourites

It's a slow burner. I recommend watching every episode if you want the best experience. But if you want to skip episodes to get to the action or something, then I advise just dropping the show.

If the show feels slow I also can recommend reading the manga, that way you can read as fast as you like.

IMO this is one of the best anime in history I can see how people think it starts slow but it's def worth sticking with! It's a pure masterpiece

This anime is a masterpiece. A multi-episode anime like this needs to be a little slow to allow proper character development. If you skip episodes you will have lost the whole point

It takes a bit to pick up, but the opening arc is the weakest of the whole story. It’s only up from here

I personally think 1-20 episodes was peak. And I even at later episodes have been revealed It was not really satisfying for me to know. Episodes 1-20 was so peak for me. Makes you really wonder what kind of person he saves. Early episodes was the best and for me when truth was revealed it is not great as what I feel during those early episodes.

Yes, Monster is absolutely worth watching, especially if you enjoy slow-burn psychological mystery thrillers, complex narratives, and morally challenging themes. Personally, it’s one of the best anime I’ve ever watched. It was one of the first few anime I experienced, and it hooked me around episode 5 when Johan makes his appearance as an adult. I’ve always been a big fan of dark psychological mystery thrillers, so it didn’t take much for me to get invested.

@Semi_01 overhyped? That was released in 2004 and still recommended it stood the test of time the same way with the logh ova of the 90's. That what classic do same thing with cowboy Bebop who was released in 1998.

Well.. it's a slow anime. I wish it was around 40~50 episodes instead of 74. The characters are good. The story doesn't have much weight to it tho. Everyone of my friends hyped it up to be a masterpiece and i went in with very high expectations prepared to be blown away. It's not all that in my opinion. Others might tell that it's a masterpiece but I feel like it's a bit pretentious and tries too hard.

Even though i think the opening is great from a writing, story and set up perspective. I can see how it can appear as "boring" for some people. Urasawa's stories work better as mangas imo.
Edit: Ok tbf after thinking about it. I think you should drop it. 5 episodes in and you aren't engaged? Really seems like it isn't the show for you. Which is fine. "Monster" isn't for everyone.

Someone clearly didn't read Green Eggs and Ham to the OP back in the day. A shame.

A good or great story sometimes needs considerable build-up before stuff really starts popping off.

In order to get to the good stuff, you have to fully grasp Dr. Tenma's situation this far. His viewpoints on human lives being equal influences his big decision in the early going. This decision is what kick-starts the entire plot.

Maybe keep watching in order to see why? 🤷‍♂️

The first half is great but the ending is just ok, even if it does wrap everything up. I'd say if you're not invested after finishing the first 25% just drop it

It is a very slow paced anime. Been years since I watched it but I remember it being kinda boring, then super super engaging, then really boring again. And it kept like that for the whole time, back and forth of interesting and kinda boring/slow. I definitely think it's worth the watch story wise, but it does drag. So as long as you're okay with that, keep at er!

It picks up but if you're not interested in seeing how the story unfolds - no reason to force yourself. Also if your expecting some sci-fi or fantasy aspects you'll be disappointed, the show is a psychological thriller in every sense of the word.

I liked it a lot but definitely not a show for everybody.

Not only is NOT worth the time, effort or pain to watch this crap, it baffles me the amount of people consider this garbage a masterpiece and the best anime of all time. To give you a hint, you probably are good watching till episode 15, then jump to the final 5 episodes. Take my word, is not worth it, I've seen enough anime in my life and this crap it's in my top bottom.

I also found it boring but forced myself to continue and completed it. Was it worth it? I mean I’m glad I watched it and it was an interesting story. So if you feel really bored and aren’t curious about what’s going to happen in the next episodes, it’s totally ok to drop and watch something that you enjoy.

You have to understand this a slow burn seinen , so you have to be patience but if you want to wait than you should drop it I think. Because everyone have different taste. It is in my top 5 seinen because of its psychology and characters.
