Yes, This season will have more "powerpoint" animation ( The queen bee comaprison is stupid), but that director change they made when the staff lists came out, is a very great decision for the show overall. Since the director has very good experience in the special effects department/ visual compositor, The show will defiantly focus more on those aspects of the show than animation.

And episode 2 really showed its true colors combined with the very well done sound effects, ost and voice acting kinda (reminds me of the reincarnated as the 7th prince when the show hit the jade arc and even before that.) Another thing to mention is the direction overall is more focused on clever directing and focusing on the stronger aspects of the directors ability and the staffs own aswell. A few examples being the chigiri scene and the way they focus on the foot movement when they have the ball, once again clever directing.

The discourse around this blue lock season is pretty harsh which i do understand but at the same time it does suck that people dont notice the improvements around the "powerpoint" animation and just say its the "colored version of the manga" which is an intresting critique, But this does prove that no matter how good the characters look no matter how the sound design is or how nice the effects look animation will always be number 1 just look at solo leveling or kaiju no8

this season is amazing, it focuses on the important parts and makes them shine. People just have an ingrained stinginess surrounding animation and even if deep down they like it they feel an obligation to hate on it. This season is a massive improvement from the last imo.

Animation is definitely a low point for this show, but I do feel the other parts sufficiently make up for it.

Visuals, VA work and other SFX are great.

@The_W3za_Man Watching a colored manga with sound really cheers you up lol, and even more so when it's a colorful sports manga with still scenes and a lot of screaming, it really cheers you up a lot, congratulations

As someone who doesn’t usually focus on animation and someone that just rewatched Season 1; allow me to be the one to tell you that this season is a massive downgrade from Season 1.

Season 1 was always relatively PowerPoint themed, and the CGI has always been slightly hard to look at, but Blue Lock was always filled with hype moments so it kept me into the show.

Season 2 however has made the PowerPoint presentation more obvious and even harder to watch. Even the CGI looks clunkier than it did in Season 1. The hype isn’t enough as of now to keep my attention. I would rather go read the manga to get my dose of hype. So that’s just a terrible take on your part.

Now credit to @3inPunisher here, I think Season 2 will deliver better on the visuals. Episode 2 at least showed that much (But I think it’s an insult to compare it to the 7th Prince). Chigiri’s scene was also decent. I don’t however think there was a massive improvement on the voice acting (unless your Japanese and can tell either way) or the OST seemed like the same stuff from Season 1.

@Kaze1214 the CGI definitely doesn’t look as jarring as season 1 to me. Ofc the hype isn’t enough yet. We just started a slew of matches that will decide the players for the main match. To my knowledge, this is the only match that we focus on and every other match will just be shown as highlights.

From a writing standpoint, scenes like Rin using Shidou as a decoy, or Shidou’s first goal should be hype AF but it just looks like some visual novel. That’s the problem.

@kyo_1 I'm not one to usually criticize animation, but episode 2 took it way too far. They relied on the special effects so much that it was distracting. This was like the equivalent of watching an action movie with the majority of scenes being in slow motion. These effects would be fine if they saved them for special moments, but when they use them in almost every scene the only conclusion I can come to is that they're just trying to cover up the lack of movement.

Look at Shidou's goal in this episode. When it shows him making the shot for the goal, not one part of his body is moving. It's just a still of the panel from the manga with color added and pink/purple special effects. They don't show how he actually kicked the ball in, you have to fill in the blanks with your imagination. Compare this with Isagi's backheel goal vs. Rin from last season - it's not perfect animation but you see how Isagi positions himself against Rin and moves his leg to hit the ball - you can see how someone could score this goal in real life.

My god, thank god someone said it.

The episode was filled ad nauseam with effects.

@Kaze1214 I wasn't comparing blue lock to 7th prince. I was just stating how the sound design and ost just work so well together in both 7th prince and blue lock. And na i ant Japanese so i wouldnt be able to notice the subtle changes in the already good voice acting

Also in Otoya's second goal. After Chigiri passed the ball, there was no animation of Otoya hitting it. Only a still frame.

Yeah okay we are not listening to a concert, we are watching an anime, obviously the visual part will be the one that will have the greatest impact, and it is incredible the worsening made in the 2nd episode, it is only 2 episodes, but if it already starts badly (and the trailer did not give much hope) you can understand how natural it is that people are complaining about this, without taking into account that it is an anime based on football, obviously it will need a great animation to represent it well, which is something we are not getting though
