I have no concept of that industry whatsoever and how it can get to a black company. what was Akira's job actually and what does that have to do to overtime and kept using the computer and stuff? can't he just go home after closing hours, why'd he stay? why is everyone working and seemed like nothing is progressing. i dont really get it

In general, Japanese usually stay at work if their boss stays, because they think it's disrespectful to leave before your boss. It's similar when they don't take their holidays, because they see how others work - sometimes harder - while you are on holidays.
The best comparison I can make is how the game dev companies work in the west, but without paying for the overtime.

His job was "corporate wage slave".

Now, even if JP working conditions can definitely suck, this is clearly exaggerated for comedy, so don't read too much into it.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

A salaryman is what they call them in Japan, which is practically just an office worker.

In Japan it is also part of their culture to not leave the workspace until every other worker has finished their daily work, so they usually stay overtime.

In a lot of cases due to excessive workload in these corporations, the workers have to pull all-nighters, sometimes not returning home for entire days, similar to the animation industry.

You can see similar stuff in America too. I am an accountant and used to work in public accounting. It’s a position that’s almost always overtime exempt. There is usually a culture where you are expected to work to meet your deadlines and then piled with work to the point you are putting in insane hours. Maybe you have 6 projects hanging out there that you are working on/finishing up. I have seen coworkers put in 100 hours in a week. I’m not joking, that’s 15 hours a day, everyday.

Sure you could leave early. But then you are a slacker and will be replaced soon enough by the new, incoming set of juniors. That’s how it was then, although accountant shortages these days are tossing a little bit of a wrench into that machine these days.

From what I interpreted, he worked at an ad agency as production department. He worked on some “scenarios”, but I couldn’t make anything out of it since advertising is not my profession.

I remember a chapter I read deliberately mentioning he worked in an ad agency.

Above is for your industry question.

But I think black company can exist in any industry as long as it is corporation and involves office work(?).

From what I've read about "black companies" it's not too much exaggeration. The normal work culture there is still pretty hard core, but the exploitative companies literally work people to death.

Nah. I Googled it, still clearly seems like an exaggeration, but note that I did not disagree that "JP working conditions can definitely suck".

The funniest shit I see is how so many westerns say this was an “exaggeration for the sake of the point”.

When it very, VERY clearly wasn’t.

Some Japanese companies are ACTUALLY that bad with no exaggeration.

People there die from overwork, you know? Like, they actually die.

CLEARLY still being exaggerated for comedic affect. Plus, someone already beat you to it, go annoy someone else.

to give a serious answer….
seems like he worked for a media production company that primarily produces television advertisements. MC in particular seems to have been put in charge of specific ad projects, meaning he works directly with the actors/helps develop the entire project as a whole.

for whatever reason, life at that company seems like hell and even tho they have tons of workers they’re all still at the office all day every day. idk how they even have time to produce these advertisements when they’re all just click-clacking and miserably drinking canned coffee at their desks. seems like they’re heavily overbooked for clients and are therefore heavily overworking their too-thinned employees. just an overworked, underpaid, miserable worker.

Majority of big, reputable company (like the company that MC worked in) have a crazy bad work condition, but i can clearly tell you that the anime exaggerated it, even tho it kinda makes sense since the MC worked in a black company

The anime exaggerated one and exactly one thing.

The boss who screams and yells like an actual retard.

But that’s not because they intended for anything to be even slightly comedic, that’s simply because the author is physically incapable of writing a half-decent antagonist.

But like, seriously? Comedic? You saw that scene as comedy?

Bro you good?

I didn't talked about the comedy of this show

Boss yelling at their employees isn't always a bad thing, that's a common situation especially if you're working at the incorporated company who's producing things

My father is a manager in a multi national company, and he always do this shit to his subordinate

Now…

That’s a fair argument. Ok, my bad.

That said, the main point still stands. The only thing which was exaggerated was the boss.

And that wasn’t for any particular reason other than “the author isn’t great writing villains”.
