I’m only 3 episodes in so idk if I just don’t know enough, but so far shikimori is only good for two things, making faces and saving Izumi from bad luck. I feel as if hachimitsu and nekozaki have a way better personality. Honestly I feel like the story would be much better with one of the other two girls dating Izumi than shikimori. Does it get better? Or does it get worse? lmao

honestly bro idek and I've watched the entire thing. it's like a 6 or 7 meh in my opinion so I guess the characters are a bit meh. they're more like best friends than a couple so the romance aspect doesn't quite workout. shikimori is just a boy and izumi is a girl so that's probably why the other girls look more feminine

I do… but it’s a subjective take. Me saying I like her won’t really change a thing, same with the latter. If you don’t enjoy it, just drop it.

Although, it does go into their backstory more later, but I don’t see why it’s needed per say because there are a lot of anime like this that is not under as much scrutiny.

But yeah, I guess it gets better as the episodes go on.
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

Bro fr izumi acting as a girl and shikimori acting as a man literally summarizes how the story is so far. Overall I feel like the whole “romance” aspect so far isn’t really working out lmao

like look at my profile man I'm a romance anime expert and I'm kind of a mainstream romance connoisseur. This anime still messes with my head to this day like this animation is so good if the animation was used for an actually interesting story and not just some slice of life with why characters it would've turned out sooo good

It’s a slice of life and I’d leave it at that. I enjoyed all of it because its just peaceful and cute and you get to enjoy their passions and very slow process of the relationship with each other and friends! Personally it was an 8 overall but if you’re looking for a core story it would be 7 even 6 but you’re only here for the journey if you really like it imo.

Yes you'll see different aspects of her personality later on with some real emotions and interactions between her and the side characters
Even her relationship with Izumi gets a proper conclusion in the last episode
Btw just a question, since when did anime couples feel super interesting to us viewers by just 3 eps ?
There's a lot of romance animes that gets more enjoyable as the show progresses, and Shikimori is one of them

Kamiya>Nekozaki>Hachimitsu>Inuzuka>Shikimori>Izumi

The problem with the show isn't that Izumi is the heroine type and Shikimori is the ikemen type (if you wanna see this actually done well, please do yourself a favour and read Lofty Flower, Fall for Me!), it's that this show just has no soul.

She’s just a normal character to me. Nothing to like or hate. There’s nothing really special about her character but kind of overrated.

Not really, but yeah,as one really doesn't expect much from a female lead nowadays except for her being good looking and "RELIABLE".

Definitely dude. Kamiya is legit the only character who feels like she has some complexity to her. In fact, she'd have done so well as the heroine of her own series. Shikimori was never my favourite character in the show, but the flashback when she went from badass tomboy to "I want to be somebody's girlfriend", I found that super pathetic. I thought we left the "a woman is nothing without a man" in pre-2010

I overall liked her in the manga, but I dislike her portrayal in the anime. Compared to the manga, she just feels so barebones. I mean I already thought that Shikimori was overhyped before the anime aired, but you are most definitely not going to be able to understand where it came from based on the anime alone.

At least for me, they removed almost all of her good "cool" moments. I feel like a lot of the chapters removed from the manga show a lot more of her personality. People say that these chapters are episodic and don't have much relevance to the overall plot, but for a slice of life series, characters are everything and chapters like these were what made me interested in the manga in the first place. The few scenes that remain in the anime come off as super generic, partly due to the change in art style and partly due to the direction. They also put so much emphasis on her "cute side" that she ends up feeling very copy and paste. If that wasn't enough, we got that awful anime original backstory in episode 11. A lot of Shikimori fans seem to like backstory for some reason, but personally, I thought it was complete shit, and it undid everything she did in the manga. Apparently, she decided to completely change her appearance, persona, and hobbies all because she read one generic shoujo manga and wanted to be a cute girl to attract a cool boyfriend. This is not only the most cookie cutter motivation for girls in all of media, but it straight up contradicts her personality in all of those cut chapters. It honestly just feels like they're doing it on purpose.

There are a lot of complaints I have with both Shikimori's anad Izumi's portrayal in the anime, but I'm kind of too lazy to elaborate more. The manga isn't anything groundbreaking, but the anime feels like a huge downgrade to me.

OMG THANK YOU.

I thought I was the only one who thought her "backstory" in episode 11 was extremely cringe, cheesy and borderline made no sense. It was such a lazy excuse to justify her "cute" side and if anything, felt more insulting to the character than uplifting. You mean to tell me she changed her whole personality because of a fucking manga?

Exactly, she was supposed to be a waifu bait and I think she was great in that aspect...her personality was so much better than the likes of Marin,Nagatoro and the recent high school waifus. Shikimori wasn't meant to be a very well written lead like Kaguya, none of the girls I mentioned works like that. Despite that her writing is better than them,so I guess she's good enough if you know where to set your expectations before starting a show.

Finaly someone who didn't say Marin is better than Shikimori. Tho for some reason I love Nagatoro more than Shikimori.

I like her because she is a typical competent teen girl. She wants to be hyper feminine and have the love story but she’s capable and doesn’t need the “protection” her partner wants to be that for her but can’t. They both bring out the best and accept the whole of each other. It’s ridiculously cute if that’s your thing

Her entire character is that she sometimes acts "cool". That's literally it.
Absolutely no depth and she is not even best girl in her own show.

Do you want to see who a good female main character is? Haruhi Suzumiya currently is my standard for FMCs and most FMCs today are trash like her, Yor, Marin, and Chizuru the Gold Digger Machine

People give her flak for her episode 11 back story but keep in mind she was in elementary school at that time and it's normal for that age to be enamored with fairytale like romances that she saw in a manga.
