I was just thinking about how Subaru NEVER wonders about what happened to the people he knew in his previous life. Are they still living in the normal world? Did Subaru stop existing there? Do they remember him? Will he ever see them again?
The fact that during all this time he never even mentions anyone from his past life is very weird, is he a sociopath? Meanwhile, the new opening seems to hint at some characters from the real world. Will this rather unusual behavior ever be recognized and addressed? Or will they just justify it with the unoriginal "oh yeah he was a neet so no friends"?

Subaru has been fucking himself up since the day the author decided to write his character.

Are you sure you didn't skip the first season?

I... GUESS... independent of what is coming next, only considering what we anime viewers know so far, that in Subaru maybe was supposed to be a typical "Isekai Neet Frustrated Loser" (intentionally remembers Kazuma from Konosuba, since both are a parody of the genre, made by 2 authors who are friends in real life)

It would explain why he doesnt care about his previous life at the point that not only he never mentioned it to nobody, but, different of almost all other Isekai protagonists who are sent alive and in the same body to another world, he does not bother in never come back.

(Edit, he is just not more fuc* up than a certain webpage about lists these days....)

He was a hardcore NEET and craved for escapism. And his character is meant to serve as meta-commentary and criticism on usual fantasy/Isekai wish fulfilment tropes and notions.

But let me say this:-
There's a lot of things going on inside their head even though the characters don't directly express it verbally. This applies especially to Subaru and Emilia. The novels make this more clear that both these characters constantly face a barrage of inner turmoil and have a complicated (nonlinear) thought process.

Moreover, there are instances of exposition and inner-monologues in the Light Novel (especially during the Mansion/Dog arc) which show that he does infact think about his family, and has few regrets. But sadly, the anime cut out on those due to pacing issues (or maybe because they wanted to make it harder for the viewers to relate with Subaru, and make him more unlikable).

But this season could throw some light on these aspects of his character, depending on what all they adapt from the LN and how well they adapt it.

Same with me hahaha

Hopefully those who are criticizing the series up until now will stay long enough to see this season solving most the their issues.

This. Subaru's past is filled with regrets. You can see a hint of this and how he does not have regrets since he's in Lugnica in the new opening.

Isn't this the case with most isekais? They just find themselves in another world and go 'well shiz guess I live here now, time to forget anyone I knew irl because who cares'
This anime shit is addictive

I feel that ignoring everything about the past of a character because the series is an Isekai would be a very bad move. And this is what most terrible isekai series do and it's most likely one of the reasons why isekai are looked down at so much.

Just wait for future episodes, who knows we might see more into Subaru's past this season, the opening kind of hinted at that

Ironically, rezero is one of the few rare isekais that actually explore the mc's i.e. Subaru's past life in detail (and why Subaru has such a cringey and annoying personality/so tryhard etc), so look forward to the episodes to come.

Isekai tends to be used as a way to explain things about a fantasy world to the viewer without the protagonist becoming a idiot during those moments. A lot of the time the world is explained similar to an RPG game. The whole: poping yourself into a new world, and other gaming aspect tends to kill it for people.
