| I liked Angelic Layer with the dub when I watched it as an adult perhaps a decade ago. I was watching with my daughter who was then around 13. Angelic Layer falls in what I call the "spunky-girl" genre. Not much romance but a decent story. You should try Sora Yori mo Tooi Basho ("A Place Further than the Universe") which finished on Crunchyroll today. It follows four high-school girls who travel to Antarctica. It doesn't have an official demographic category since it's an anime-original production. It has a couple of slow episodes around 10, but it finishes strongly. It doesn't have sparkly shoujo design features, though, because it's committed to a realistic style. Its spinoff manga is seinen. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Place_Further_than_the_Universe |
