Trying to watch 24 straight hours of anime today. Edit: Challenge Completed

Starting at 7:30am March 15 Colorado time all the way until March 16 8:00am I was to complete the 24 hour challenge. As meaningless as an accomplishment as this may sound it was still a lot of fun and I actually discovered some great shows in the process. I decided to watch an extra half hour for good measure for all the bathroom breaks, food breaks and spending time replying to people on here. To be fair though I had a playlist of anime shorts to play on my phone while I was in the bathroom and when I was eating or replying to people the anime was still on and I was constantly jerking my head back and forth to follow along.

Thanks to everyone who gave me some love and thanks to everyone who gave me criticism, love you all. This is most certainly the last time I'll ever do this for I have a job to start up again saturday and I cant see the piont in doing this twice haha.

During the last hour or so I was so tired I had to wiggle my toes constantly while lying on my couch to keep my body from falling asleep. At exactly 8:05am when the final episode ended I literally closed my eyes rest for just a second and woke up 6 hours later haha. It was a bit gnarly, I'm still pretty tired even right now but I dont feel sick in any way and Im sure I'll feel fine tomorrow.

Like I said I would give you, here is a list of all the anime I watched during the 24 hours

Both seasons of New Game. 12 ep each. Subbed.
The dog of flanders. 1 movie. Dubbed. (This was one was easily my favorite)
A wind named amnesia. 1 movie. Dubbed
Pheonix 2772. 1 movie. Dubbed
Momotuaru 1943. 1 movie. Subbed (By far the oldest thing I watched)
The story of hiedi. 1 movie. Dubbed
Beach Waves. 1 movie. Subbed (my least favorite)
Romeo and the black brothers. 20ep. subbed. (Didnt get to finish this one, but im very into it and certianly will)

Some eps I skipped the intro and outro, some shows I liked the intro and outro so I let it play. I watched all of this on my 50 inch tv in my living room. Luckily my room mates didnt mind and even sat down with me to watch some of the movies. Despite what a lot of people thought I never got bored, the real battle was fighting tiredness the last few hours.

Final thought, I'm sure some of you think this was meaningless and silly. But it meant something to me and I have no regrets doing it :) I would rate this experience a 10/10. Also I'm sure there are some of you scoffing at this because theyve done something like 30 or 40 hours in a row, to which I saw props. Anything beyond 24 hours is mad impressive.

Now it's time to go outside, its a beautiful sunny day here in colorado and my friends impatiently waiting for me holding his baseball mit haha. Thanks again everyone. Much love - Ben.

This will be my third attempt. I'm only doing this as a challenge not for overall viewing experience. The anime I'm watching aren't that important to me and are typically slice of life shows with a handful of older movies thrown in. Thoughts?

Are you unemployed or just extremely bored?

Good luck with that..
Last time when it was a long school holiday, I only survived for 14hours (including eating and bathing). XD

I'm starting to get embarrassed by my own forum signature line.. XD

I don't think you precisely need luck to do that, honestly, more like, just not have anything relevant in your life to do, and a lot of coffee.

14 hours is still pretty good, it's strange how you start to get tired just watching anime. Last attempt I made it 19 hours 40 min and literally passed out with the tv blaring.

I'd get bored watching for that long. Staying up for that long isn't a problem tbh. Try to stay off energy drinks and anything with a lot of sugar or caffeine, doesn't help in the long run. Have fun

OP, is it sub or dubbed? I personally think sub is more taxing for you as you need to focus more and still need to keep your condition as comfortable as you can be. Although if too comfortable you will pass out for sure (e.g laying on a soft couch with a dakimakura).

I actually try to stay away from any kind of sugar and caffine, I'm eating mostly whole wheat pasta, much longer lasting energy.

About 16 hours of what I have planned is subbed, the rest is dubbed. I'll certainly be comfortable most of the day but the last 4 hours I'm going to try to do while standing up or doing yoga haha

Don't you think it would be easier if you watch anime that interest you? If you get addicted to long series like One Piece, it shouldn't be as hard.

Legend. Not sure how you're going to do it watching slice of life anime. For me they tend to be boring (not saying they're bad). Try making a list of anime to watch beforehand so you don't waste time searching on the day. Take care of yourself.

Also update us when you're done. I want to know how many episodes you actually completed. Thanks :D

Well, when I first attempted this a couple years ago I did choose anime that interested me. But I discovered that watching shows that were less plot heavy and more slice of life like were alot less taxing to watch over the long term. Neverless though I still have a few I picked that are interesting to me that i'll watch at the end.

Most of the movies I'd say are actions and tragedies. Heres a quick list.

the dog of flonders
momotauro
a wind named amnesia
patlabor
sprigan
phoenix 2772
patlabor 2
belladonna of sadness
ocean waves

If Phil Laak can play live poker for 115 hours, I'm sure 24 hours of anime aren't that big of a deal. The biggest challenge wouldn't be physically staying awake, but just getting to watch stuff that is interesting enough not to fall asleep.
I probably regret this post by now.

I have nothing to gain from it really. It's just simply a challenge to see if I can do it or not I suppose haha. It may seem silly but the fact that I can go on knowing I did it at least once in my life is comforting. Who knows what the future holds but no matter what happens I can alway look back and think to myself at one point I was able to dunk a basketball, play bass almost as much as i wanted and was able to complete a silly 24 hour anime challenge haha

Damn that's insane thank the gods his brain didn't freeze or had a stroke. Not sleeping for 24+ hrs is never safe. if he keeps doing it , I just hope he doesn't regret it when the time comes.

Well personally, the thing about animes that interest me is they work my brain more and make me tired faster. Animes that dont have a heavy plot and are easygoing take no effort to watch for me. During the last four hours though I did pick out a couple that should be interesting, for thats when I will be the most tired.
