A Silent Voice didn't come out in the U.S until 2017, which is why they went for the 2018 Oscars. I don't know what Your Name's excuse is.

Same for Your Name. It came in 2017 in US.

Nah, it was out in a few theaters in L.A in December of 2016. They went for a late Academy Award run.

Yeah I’m pretty salty with Stain winning best villain. Tanya in my opinion was so much better, and even then there were better choices than Stain, he just wasn’t that interesting... but alas what is done is done.

What part of him was lackluster? And I'm not saying Todoroki was bad, just the "Best Boy/Girl" meme needs to stay a meme. Nothing more.

Also, to the people saying Tanya, how exactly is she a villain? She's a soldier fighting in a war, killing people is her job.

I get your point. I mean she seems pretty evil considering she was basically willing to murder unarmed citizens. I’m just more salty that Stain won because I thought there were a lot more interesting villains and since Tanya was in the category I was rooting for her. Idk man Stain to me just seemed like the worst choice.

His presence is middling, he stoops down to almost to a cannon-fodder. His character is basically "Heroes aren't as good as people say it is", and alas, he is beaten down. He is more a catalyst to progress the story rather a character.

i dont understand why people still complain about this this isn't a voting that decides witch is objectively the best show this is all subjective so all this voting shows what most people like that's all.and when people simply prefere Bnha S2 over made in abyss its compleatly legitimate for them to vote for what they liked. People pretending to knew what's objectively the best is a thing I have only experienced in the anime community and it's really annoying.

I see what you coming from but her action is a lot more cruel compare to a normal soldier. If she just a soldier, she wouldn't slaughter a civilian. That's why a lot of people consider her to be a villain and she was the most interesting character in the whole nomination so i was hoping that she will win

As someone who loved Made in Abyss more than HeroAca, Stain deserved the award more. Bonadrewd did one thing in the show, which at this point just reflects on the status of White Whistles in the eyes of the populace, and how that lures in people like Nanachi and Mitty for the sake of that travel.

Stain's effect is more tangible in story at the moment, and he had more screentime to boot. Bonadrewd may get a great arc later (have not read further than where the anime ended), but now, his role and character are lesser.

Ignoring MHA, I think the winner were fair. I mean I personally think Konosuba should have won best comedy, but it is subjective so whatever.

Animation and OP MHA stole in my opinion. Best Girl and Boy I felt was cheating since they had two person from MHA.

I think voting should just be taken off next year, but than again I know in the Annie award Coco won every category except indie, which to be fair most of the main stream movie were garbage, but some indie movie like Silent Voice got snub.

I will said I am glad Girl Last Tour won slife of life, along with Land of Lustrous for best CGI, and Made in abyss for best score. For the rest eh. AOT I am only happy Made in Abyss won because MHA should not win everything.

Also yes I prefer Your Name over Silent voice, and glad it won, but honestly would not mind if Silent Voice would have won.

How did Maid dragon win over Konosuba? Not comparing the two but I felt the latter had much more love. Also, my hero academia did actually deserve most of the awards it won (not best animation WTF was that?)
Still, the biggest surprise has to be AOTY.(MiA deserved it.)
Crunchyroll awards this season were a lot better than last season's imo.

Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni aka In This Corner of the World should win...

Critically it was an extremely well produced, spectacular film that truly grabbed the essence of a specific persons life during that era... What it was like being a regular Japanese citizen during the war, the actions that they had to take on a daily basis and just how they lived their lives... It was a journey that you were subtly transported into, you felt as if you were part of it instead of being told about it... Everything was subtle and realistic, instead of being blatantly shown to you, instead the watcher deciphering it themselves... It depicted the artistic type of person and how they view the world so well... The movie just felt so real and truly fulfilling to watch... It deserves #1

Silent Voice is the next contender...

If Stain didn't win the award, who should have of the nominees?

Altair from Re:Creators totally got snubbed. As for the others, I've heard less than stellar comments about Tanya, Hiro's psychopathic switch was pretty silly in execution failing to make him seem like a victim of circumstance, I haven't seen too much Magus Bride to know if Cartaphilus does anything beyond the one arc when he was OK, and Rabbit is basically a horror movie monster to do evil monster things. As much as I loved Made in Abyss, Bonadrewd did one thing in the show, which at this point just reflects on the status of White Whistles in the eyes of the populace, and how that lures in people like Nanachi and Mitty for the sake of expanding travel.

Therefore, Stain deserved to win, not only because of his slick design and really neat power to basically bloodbend, but also the lasting effect his battle seemed to have in throwing the role and perspective of superheroes in their world around for the future. Apparently it is quite lasting on the show as a whole; the battle he was present in meant a lot for several different characters. And villains being symbols isn't really a crime, a fanatic with potential truth in ideas.

By design I mean, most obsessed black and red character in 2017 before Sonic Forces came out:

The thing with my opinion on Stain winning is, there were just no other competition. All I said was he wasn't interesting, but I didn't say he shouldn't win it because how weak the villains this years are. Last year, we had Kira and Satou, this year, we got Stain, that bunny guy, Hiro, Tanya? and Bondrewd.

I mean don't get me wrong people can have their opinion but I can see based on your list that you would have wanted 3-gatsu to win best drama. Which is perfectly fine, but um if that won couldn't someone have said, oh it just won because of recency bias. You know since it is also airing and what not. Just seems like someone is upset their show didn't win.

Let it be known though. These award systems are just garbage anyway. It is all about which shows tend to be more popular. Which is why My Hero Academia won so many awards.

I like all of MHA’s openings a lot tbh (3rd is my favorite, but I enjoy Peace Sign as well). The only other one I’ve heard from the category is Ancient Magus Bride’s though, so I can’t exactly pick a winner. Stain isn’t my favorite villain I’ve ever seen. I personally think Tomura is more interesting from that show, even though he wasn’t in it that much and his story isn’t complete like Stain’s.
