I'm straight. But if there's a chance to ship two hot AF guys together (and there was plenty of that in Kiss Him, Not Me) then I WILL FUCKING SHIP THEM IN A BOX THROUGH FEDEX.

Just need to find out how to quote this every time so I can dodge the stupid 30-character limit.

Im sorry, but its not that easy. Yaoi is a genere that evolved from early, mature shoujo. It was and is aimed at women. The reason the authors at that time wrote this kind of stories (romance + sex stories with two guys, whom of one was more feminine looking and acting, and other one was very manly) was to code stright couple romance. This allowed them to write stuff they couldnt do with stright couple characters in manga (like, dunno, a story where the girl was raped; the authors were afraid to write such story openly becasue they thought it would have been to drastic for the female readers to identify with a raped woman) . Women where supposed to identify with the feminine uke character; this allowed some distance.
Yaoi (and shounen ai) started as a feminist erotica aimed at women, and its still aimed mostly at women (tho its less feminist these days and more some kind of fetish)

Theres another genere aimed at gay men, called Bara (Rose)

Yuri on Ice is neither Yaoi/shounen ai nor Bara. Its simply a sports anime with canon gay characters.
Everybody can watch it (and watching it wont make you gay, nor a yaoi fan lol ;) :P)

This is a word of warning: this will get ranty - and I can't believe I'm willing to do this in the middle of the night. So I hope this will make sense to you peeps.

When it comes to same-sex pairings they get tagged with one of these genres:
> Shoujo-Ai (Girls Love) // Shounen-Ai (Boys Love)
Any series that get tagged with these will show a bond between the characters and rarely depicts a kiss and anything explicit. It the more 'innocent' presentation of same-sex pairings.

>Yuri // Yaoi
These are the tags most people (imo) just bluntly use without knowing what they actually mean. To use this tag in a series it means there's explicit porn in it. It's the hentai of same-sex pairings. But this is just a blunt (not full) definition of the genre.

Yuri!! On Ice is NOT a Yaoi or Shounen-Ai:

Yuri on ice is a series that focuses on Ice Skating- It's a legitimate sports anime. This series was born out of love of the sports, Sayo Yamamoto was the driving force of this series. There's training montage, competitions, medals being handed out, and it explains to you how the sports work.

I'm not gonna lie, I read BL and a low key Fujoshi, I ship Victuuri and have MxM Pairings in other series. But I will not label Yuri!! On Ice as Yaoi or Shounen-ai because quite frankly it's an insult to the series.

The romantic relationship between Yuuri and Victor has been confirmed by the characters in the series (PHICHIT & VICTOR) and Kubo-sensei in twitter & in an Interview (twitter.com/i/moments/814320279136575489). How much spoon feeding do you people need to see that they're in a romantic relationship??? HOW???
