For as long as I remember (in Singapore), I have seen only 1 peson wearing an anime T-shirt, if I do not count anime conventions or events.

That guy was wearing an Attack on Titan shirt. (which was a grayscale screenshot of the anime).

Considering the number of people who watch anime in Singapore, even with luck against me, it is a surprising realisation. I have quite a few friends who own anime T-shirts, and they also do not wear them out on the streets.

Which comes down to the question, what do you look for in Anime T-shirts? What sort of design will make you want to wear the shirt outdoors?

I am really curious to know as I have recently started designing Anime T-shirts with a friend with the outrageous goal of making them anime fashion popular in the future. It will be really really awesome to hear your thoughts!

I prefer wearing anime t-shirts of series I can actually call myself a fan of. For example, Code Geass or something like that.

Also I have a certain style and I expect it to match that style.

I have never seen an anime T-Shirt that I would even consider wearing, it would have to be a incredibly tasteful anime t-shirt to even catch a few second of my interest.

This.

If I did though, I'd probably prefer to have a logo or quote or something as opposed to like a face or something.

I share the same sentiment, I have seen too many oversized prints, and they just aren't my taste. I always wanted something to scream less anime, something that attracts less stares.

What do you guys think about the 2 shirts below?

http://puu.sh/3qtA6.jpg

I did a interesting poll earlier today, and 52% of respondents owns an anime T-shirt, but 92% wants to own one. 40% were unable to find what they have in mind I guess?

Nothing. The design represents "hentai" in a unique way.

I find anime t-shirts extremely tacky. Something only kids or teens should wear.
Unless it has a very discrete logo.

i have a berserk t-shirt i "designed" for a website/company that created it for me. I used two manga images from Berserk - one on the back, one on the front. They are both of Guts and Caska together in romantic poses.

its a woman's t-shirt so it fits properly

i get funny looks once in awhile but who cares

I hate shirts with fanservice. How the hell am I supposed to wear that in public? It's always really awkward when people wear inappropriate shit on their t-shirts and you look at them and shiver a bit and question why they would leave the house dressed like that at all.

I'd like to avoid anything that looks tacky as well, and what I mean by that is that 99% of the time they slap a character on a shirt with no regard for how well it looks on a t-shirt of that particular colour. Monochrome designs, logos, and designs that have some kind of embellishment incorporated into them tend to look much better.

I tend not to buy a lot shirts at the moment, mostly because I'm trying to take my wardrobe a direction that's a bit more sophisticated than "t-shirts and jeans lel." That and most shirts are made to fit men anyway unless they're specifically kawaii or something.

Although, I did a shirt for Christmas I like to wear quite a bit. I like the character, it's pretty and the cut fits me, so I guess that's what I would want for a shirt in the end.

Quality fabric, a size that fits, and a neat design. I think I have 3: a Durrr!!, an Evangelion, and a FLCL.

Basically I want it to feel like a regular t shirt and not a walking billboard.

No really though i'd only wear one of a adult anime like Black lagoon or GITS not because i don't like other types of anime, its that wearing a shirt from clannad or something makes you look like a fag.
Kinda how i wouldn't wear a fallout boy shirt or something.

These days if people see a guy wearing an anime shirt they'd probably expect he's a no life loser, and I do care what other people think of me, despite what others may say. I'd only wear an anime shirt if it was, like someone said previously, a logo of something that most other people wouldn't understand unless they watched anime.

If it has an anime I like on it I would probably buy it.. unless it's super ugly or something.
I have two shirts I bought from Youmacon and two Hetalia shirts.
I actually have a store in my local mall that sells anime t-shirts and other things involving anime. Haven't seen an anime t-shirt there that I actually want though.

anything that doesn't contain stock images of the anime, logo. etc.

I would wear something that normal people unfamiliar with anime think is probably a random design.

something relevant to the anime, such as a logo or emblem, etc.

it has to be subtle, yet identifiable by someone who knows about the show, series, or games. That way, you get props from the nerds, while still staying normal to your regular peers.

I really like the pokemon 151 shirt designs, that is a good example.
