i just watched 1408 last night, thats kind of a mindfuck movie. I thought it was good and i loved the main characters reaction to everything. Its a movie based off of a stephen king novel. Now most of the time i not a stephen king fan but this movie was pretty sweet i think.

Great mindfuck time travel is Twelve Monkeys. Filosofical animation Waking Life.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (Jim Carrey in noncomedy role)
Famous Beautiful mind si tiny mindfuck, Butterfly effect too. Drugs euphory's Trainspotting and Fear and loathing in Las vegas (drugs scenes si cool mindfuck).

I cannot forget on "russian lynch" Tarkovsky and his Stalker and mindfuck of mindfucks, Solaris
90% of Anime is shit, but then, 90% of everything is shit.

There is american definition of mindfuck. They say, that mindfuck is movie with absolutely unexpected but logic end eg. Six sense, Fight Club, The Others etc. This is totally different of standard anime definition (something what fuck out your brain from head).
90% of Anime is shit, but then, 90% of everything is shit.

Well, I would say anything with Park Chan Wook directing it, seriously, that man knows how to fuck your head up. Especially Old Boy. See it.

And I can't believe no one has uttered the name Takashi Miike or any of his movies!!! Granted some of them are adaptations, but those are all on our list (MPD Psycho, Ichi the Killer) but also Audition, Visitor Q, and Box. That isn't considering the ones I haven't seen yet. But no matter how much I love his movies and how many times I rewatch them, some of them I still can't quite wrap my head around. Definitely a staple for any mindfuck fan.

And both of those directors had short films in a compilation of Asian movies called Three...Extremes which is totally in this niche as well with Fruit Chan rounding out the directors for the first one. Three...Extremes 2 is pretty excellent in the mind fuck area too... I mean, that one has one of the most brilliant movies I have ever seen, 'Going Home', that one deserves a nod here as well.

A great mind fuck movie would be "eyes wide shut". it didnt get great reviews and a lot of people didnt like it - but you have to be someone thats into mind-fucks in order to "enjoy" it.

As spiesc suggested The Machinist.
The plot is a bit twisted and surprising. i'm not a big fan of Christian Bale, but he is he is perfect for this role (can you believe that he lost more than 60 pounds for it? wow).

My recommendations:

Vanilla Sky
The most twisted movie i've ever sen. The ending is impossible to predict. I'm sure you will want to watch it twice to fully understand the plot.

The Butterfly Effect
A young man blocks out harmful memories of significant events of his life. As he grows up, he finds a way to remember these lost memories and a supernatural way to alter his life.

I've seen it four times, and even though I think that I understand a little bit more of it every time I see it, I still realize that I almost don't understand anything.

By the, way I think that some people in this thread have got the wrong definition of the term "mindfuck", like the guy that mentioned Saw. Saw is a good movie, but it isn't mindfucky. It just contains a plot-twist at the end, and plot-twist does not equal mindfuck.

Almost anything by David Lynch (not everything, though), as howmayihelpyou said. He is really brilliant.

And i would disagree, they are easy to understand and all that. I kinda like how they are classified as horrors and thrillers, yet don't make you scared or suspensed a bit.

Donnie Darko and Fight Club are great though.

For everyone who mentioned old boy.. YES!
lol BUT WAIt

you may be interested to know that oldboy was part of a three part series about revenge. (it was the second)
the first of the series was my favorite and is on the same level as old boy, it's called Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, the final part of the trilogy is Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (also good.. but i don't think it compares to the other two... we have our opinions)..

Visitor Q is a mindfuck and a half.. i watched it with my girlfriend and it was amazing.

visitor q is my favorite because it makes me laugh

I can't believe no one mentioned "Seven", "Fear and loathing in Las Vegas", or "Requiem for a Dream". These movies are the very definition of mind fuck. All with crazy twists within the plots, and weird, uneven feels. If you're at all interested in musicals, and/or 70's rock music, you should check out "Pink Floyd's The Wall." That movie has some of the best animation ever. People often recommend it on LSD, I frankly don't care, it's mind fuckish none the less. Also noted, why isn't Sweeney Todd on here yet? What's more distorted and uncanny then a musical about a demented barber who slices at throats. Well, maybe the singing in the rain scene from Clockwork Orange, but after that I'm stumped.

I disagree with Lily Chou-Chou and Requiem for a Dream. How are those mindfuck? The plot is straightforward, for the latter it doesn't even contain great/unexpected plot twists and every question is solved in the end. Where's the fuck? And seriously, Sweeney Todd? Just because it has a plot twist, it's not automatically mindfuck. 90% of interesting stories contain some sort of plot twist. Same goes for Se7en.

As for "M. Night Shyamalan movies" - which ones do you mean? I would agree that yes, Sixth Sense might be mindfuck, but can't think of any others... like Signs or Unbreakable; how would they be mindfuck? The newer ones I haven't seen though.

P.S. Just because I think a movie isn't 'mindfuck' doesn't mean I don't like it.

You may as well argue about the whole fucking list, with your extreme opinions on what is and isn't mind fuck. Leave it up to the Creator to decide and accept it.
