The only embarrassing situation is when some perverted moment comes up in an anime series which does not appear to contain these sorts of references, and right when that scene shows up, a family member/parent is walking right behind you. The awkwardness then is quite.....intense.

That is the only reason anime is *mildy* embarrassing, other than that, anime is great! :D

Media is media. I'm just happy to have television to watch with intelligent plots and characters. I can't turn on a tv today without zetsuboushita-ing myself. And although there's a lot of anime that does that to me as well, there's also a lot of good stuff. So why not partake? Everyone around me knows it's not all about pokemans.

I totally agree with you. I watch what i like and if there is some one that finds it weird, then it teaches me something about that person as well.

I don't get embarrassed simply because I don't give a damn about what most people think. A harsh fact yet it's true.

I feel ambarassed when I'm laughing, clapping hands or carying in front of my family when watching anime, but it's no because of it, it's because of myself.
I don't feel embarassed about laughting out loud or whatever while watching anime.

I only don't go outside cosplaying, imitating characters i like and stuff.
Thats embarassing.

Most of the people here are. You should go take a look at the Facebook thread. But, in all honesty I am not in any way embarassed even if I'm the only one watching Anime and shitting brix from it in my group of friends.

No, I'm not. You shouldn't really be ashamed of it, but there is a level of shame you should feel when you're open to everyone in real life about your hentai collection... I know some people like that from my school. Normally you don't show hentai clips to girls that watch anime. They probably won't like it.. Or recommend hentai as great romantic comedies to people that don't watch anime, without telling them it's inappropriate. Oh, the real life weeaboos I've encountered...

Some shows ive watched ive thought to myself about what some people would think if they knew what i was watching. Being a 21 year old male i think a lot of people would be taken back if they knew i watched stuff like Lucky Star and Minami-ke. I had an anime wallpaper as my laptop background once and i had a friend round. She noticed it and turns out she was suprisingly really into Fruits Basket. Im not overly fussed tbh. I dont really go about telling people about anime but at the same time i dont really hide the fact either.

Everything is relative.

What's worse, being caught watching Card Captors or Death Note?
Because remember, one has cute little girls, and one involves grim death.

Does the age of the person catching you matter?
Because your 7 year old niece might think you having all of Card Captors makes you suddenly really cool. But her mom might not want you letting her watch Death Note.

All guys wank. Would you prefer you were caught wanking to porn, or hentai anime?

Myself, I have the advantage. My friends already know I am both extroverted, extreme, opinionated, and without any form of religious hang ups.
They are all aware saying something about my anime, ANY of my anime, will only get a rude reply.

Personally, I'd feel more embarrassed being caught watching American Idol.
While not technically anime, currently I am a big fan of Hatsune Miku.
At least I can go see her in concert.

Card Captors, because that hackjob piece of shit shouldn't have ever fucking existed.

Card Captor Sakura, on the other hand, is very different and is well worth the time of anyone willing to watch it.

Sometimes I get a little embarrased if I am watching a really sappy part. If someone happens to be in the same room as me, I imagine that they must be thinking, "God, how cheesy!" I am not embarrased about what they think of me watching a "cartoon" though.

People sometimes wonder why I'm drawn to anime.

MAYBE BECAUSE IT HAVE BETTER STORYLINE THEN YOUR BORING SOAP SERIES!!

Still, being laughed at is no fun, but i pity the fools who may never get a chance to watch Clannad After Story. (No offense intended).

I am sometime embarrassed, a classmate of mine, complaint to me about the wrong lyric written on certain website for "Naruto" opening in front of the whole class. I was left stunned, don't know how to react to the situation... (I quitted Naruto after Chunnin Exam, he kept going, and yes, he is a computer geek who talk about Naruto and Gundam Seed DestinyAll The Time.)
NOTE: this happens in 2007, Seed started airing in my country

Parents and peers are usually the one that said "What so good about those little cartoon shows?" while I was watching animes, it really killed the mood.

I quit anime for reasons like that, and I once believe Anime are really good for nothing.
Until Last year, I start watching Haruhi for a bit, then stop, then Lucky Star, you know, watch a series, stop for a few month, find another and start watching.

NOTE : I didn't watch anime between 2003 ~ 2006, pick up Naruto, dropped, and never thought I'd watch anime again.

I started watching again after marathon both Season of Shana, still a bit embarrassed about it, my friends call me a lolicon and laugh about me for being into anime characters, while I really just found them to be interestingly written. i believes some in this forum may have gotten the same treatment.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, then Clannad, then After Story...now I pity them for watching their boring soap.

Changes it does.
When I was watching Clannad After Story, my mom mocked me by asking what's so good about that show, I replied "You have no idea..." while smiling. "The script writer of your favorite show needed lesson from this little cartoon." (She didn't know the word anime, so I use cartoon)

EDIT: I am glad that I watch anime, though others may still laugh at me, I know for a fact that they're the narrow minded one's who's missing out. From Storyline, to Characters, to nice BGM.

They can go back to their Rihanna for music for all I care.

Absolutely no .
I never felt embarassed when I watched anime .
It depends on your age .
If the anime is suitable with your age,why not?
I haven't got the main purpose of life.Have you?

It greatly depends on which anime I'm watching.

If it's Death Note, Hellsing, Shigurui or something more violent, I'm not.
Though, due to my normally quite masculine personality, if people catch me watching Fruits Basket, Itazura na Kiss, Toradora! or something, it'd be quite different.

It's rare that people see me watch it though, but when in school, I was mostly trying to hide what I watched.

I don't know... People just think I'm weird :b Plus, you know how many ecchi moments there are in most comedy animes :b

I'm 21, I have no problem telling my friends who hate anime that i'm watching it when they want to play a game with me or something. So no, not embarrassed at all. Only time i was embarrassed about anime was years ago when i was younger, and the title of the anime was Naruto.

I do get embarrassed when my parents or siblings come into my room when I'm watching anime. None of them are into anime, (they've never taken an interest to it or tried to watch it) and basically think it's cartoons for children..

But the level of embarrassement greatly depends on the anime I'm watching. I mean there's a huge difference between a darker anime like Death Note and stuff like Lucky Star and K-ON etc.

NO WAI! I can't feel embarrassed of something I love so much. I'm just embarrassed of watching shoujo anime. I have to keep up a somewhat stereotypical male facade when around my family and friends because that's how they expect males to be but it's ok because that's pretty much how I am anyway except for when I'm watching/reading shoujo or playing visual novels. I think my grandmother kind of knows though because she watched an episode of Myself;Yourself once when I wasn't home and mentioned it to me later.

It depends on which anime I'm watching, but mostly no. In fact, most of the animes are superior to the series and such so I don't really have reason to get embarrassed. Sometimes it gets annoying when someone tells you "why are you watching this cartoons?", but I really pity them since they obviously don't know what are they missing.^^

Yes, for years now. That kind of hobby should be kept to yourself, along with playing video games. When I think of anime fans, some of what comes to mind are childish Wapanese who pretend everything else comes short, and I'd hate to have people pass the same prejudice on me.

I really don't get how you can get embarrased by watching anime or anything else for that matter. It's not as if other people always watch the same thing when you turn on the TV or go on the internet.

Besides I'm actually more embarrased with certain anime fans and the way they act.

I'm embarrassed when one of my weeaboo friends go around squealing about random anime stuff to people who don't watch anime. It gives anime fans a bad image. I don't want to be lumped together with that kind of fangirl.
