THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
First and foremost the tag, Happy Science 1, should be added to title since it's the first among the animated movies presented by the Institute for Research into Human Happiness. Secondly, as I've read somewhere they're a bit of a religious organization so I've treated this as a propaganda/promotional material or something. Lastly, I have read this review a long way back and this was just sitting in my hard drive all along until I had the time to actually see this thing so perhaps my perception had been formed for me ahead of time. After viewing it, I thought the message was harmless enough as long I maintain an open mind and not snorting anything while watching this to make me join their organization. LOL

Subjectively, it was an OK movie. Objectively, the animation and style was good enough and shows it's the product of the average 90's Japanese animation industry. The story was something like they put the Greek god Hermes's story in a blender and see what they come up with after. Still it was good enough entertainment to pass the time with but not memorable enough to to have struck a chord in me, much less change my life. XP

I'm not buying whatever they're selling but I'll give it 6/10 for the animation, and art style alone.

You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

art is garbage, story has a few continuity problems, it's just panning on a scene so much that it makes you snort though it and then quickly changes to another scenario idk, weird.
the cow shields made me chuckle a little also they've been oddly shaped heh

the effects at the end when hermes goes to heaven were kinda neat but the exposition was too long, what was the point of that anyway.

the narrative never cedes to surprised me, it went from the boring historical setting, to that crap of heaven to a hellish one heh, i couldn't help myself but to compare some sceness with card captor sakura, miyazaki films and saint seiya all in one D:

7/10.
