Hey guys. I know this is pretty random, maybe posted before, but am I the only one who thinks that SAO is a harem in disguise. E.g. Most mains love Kirito. Plenty of girls to go around. etc.
I'm not even really sure why it hasn't been considered a harem yet. I believe the series had alot of potential but could have been A LOT better. I mean the fact that the anime became more of an OP nerd in a video game in a harem situation which then lead to the need for fan service with Asuna, a really awful villan and another member to the harem family which involves incest and a pretty lame plot.
Maybe the manga is better, I don't know, haven't read it yet. BUT. This is purely my opinion and although I am difficult with this anime, a part of me wants to be reminded of the good parts I guess.

So, tell me your opinions on SAO and the harem subject, and whether you like SAO or not! ^^

If you know what a harem is at all then it it's easy to tell it's a harem. If they were disguising it they did a bad job of it.

My opinion on SAO: Don't hate it, don't love it, I like it. Was fun to watch, even if it could have been better.
☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five different types of coffee beans. ☕

It has harem elements, though they aren't the focus, and the main couple is wedlocked instead of Kirito being indecisive.

I liked SAO but it had too many story inconsistencies and one-off side characters. In the SAO half, though, the characters are at least genuine compared to the caricatures of the ALO half. But the ALO devoted its focus to the characters who matter, so that's something. Kirito's OPness is overstated since it wasn't uncommon for situations to come up where strength wasn't the solution or where he barely scrapped out alive; the latter moments work because of how strong he normally is.

Though really SAO's biggest problem is that Accel World exists. The former was the author's first light novel (2002 VS 2008) and it...shows its age next to the latter.

Despite many eye rolling inducing scenes I still enjoyed the show and I can't wait to watch season 2. It's not terrible, it's not fantastic, it's kind of average, generic even. It's just fun to watch it's hard to put a word in place for it

People have been calling SAO a harem since it was airing. It's just not "officially" a harem because it manages to be borderline enough.

That's what I was about to say. This show is not subtle about the harem aspect. Literally EVERY female character we meet falls in love with Kirito. Even Yui, in a way. It's pretty dumb.

Still liked the show overall, though.

The definition of a harem is if 3 heroines or more liking the MC. Regardless of whether MC already has a girlfriend or not, it's still a harem if 2 other girls likes him. To prevent it from being called a harem, only 1 other girls should like him, while the other females are either neutral, considers him just as a normal friend, or likes another male character.
I am someone that would like to watch a Harem Anime with 2 male leads that each gets their own harem company of girls from the main cast. For example, 1st male lead gets a company of 4 girls and 2nd male lead gets 2-3 girls etc.

No, SAO isn't actually harem genre and will never.
Though there are many girls around him and fall for him, it doesn't need that SAO is harem genre.
SAO doesn't focus on harem story and the important thing is Kirito has already chosen one and loves only her. The harem that the mc doesn't give a chance for girls, it ruins harem story

The harem aspect is the only thing I don't like a out the SAO anime. It's got a decent storyline, there's no need to make Kirito save a bunch of girls' lives and then them fall head over heels for him. Also, wtf was episode 10? Or was it 9, where Kirito explains to Asuna "I lost a girl close to me in a trap room" and then an hour later "we almost had sex hey let's get married"
A bit of a plothole, but hey. Story is enjoyable so far, I just finished EP 13
