I was thinking about purchasing the Sony MDR-ZX600, it has been reviewed highly but i am starting to have second thoughts about it. The cost is also around $70-$100 AUD.

Are there any other better or cheaper products similar to the Sony MDR-ZX600?
I would prefer it if this "other" product would have the same design as the Sony MDR-ZX600 as well.

I know it's more like a cost tier up, but you should invest into the Vmoda Cross fade LP2. Probably one of the best headphones on the market to date (undoubtedly better than Beats), around $200 USA.

Philips SHP2500 (stereo TV headphones) have pretty damn good sound, and is quite cheap (got mine for 20$~). Really good for music and gaming.

OP, go with Grado sr80i's. I've never been more satisfied spending $100. The soundstage is amazing and they're comfy as fuck. Although, since the headphones are open, everyone around you can hear what you're listening to(not a problem for me, since I just use them for at home listening).

You've obviously never listened with high quality equipment.

That does sound stupid. Might I ask what $300 pair of headphones you bought?

JVC 5360, or whatever the current model is now.

Quality sound, fold easily, less than £40.

I got myself a Sennheiser for about 50 euros and it's great! It only looks a little fragile, but it's quite strong actually. Besides, I don't need a pair of gigantic earmuffs on my head, if the quailty is at least as decent..

Maybe. Maybe not. For a long time my favourite budget headphones was Koss KSC-55 ($20 or so - but they sounded really quite good). Unfortunately they're out of production - and the KSC-75 (clip on ear things) which are exactly the same don't fit my ears. There's a lot of love for the portapro as a cheap set of headphones - I've never tried them, they are a little too ugly for me :). I might buy a pair one day.

OP - headphones.com.au have them - but they are a complete ripoff at $64 (slightly offset by the fact you can't buy them anymore anywhere else). The problems with them - is that they don't withstand much beating at all (the cord would break basically), and they need a little wearing in to make them comfortable (def. not comfortable).

I currently have these:

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-ES7-Portable-Headphones-Black/dp/B000R0TPQ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369294877&sr=8-1&keywords=ath-es7

They are not too bad. Good for a closed set of headphones. And they're reasonably hardy. There's a slight tinniness and it doesn't have a massive bass sound there. But they do well enough :)

(I don't know - I'm not much an audiophile; And I haven't bought a new set of headphones in a while).

As an aside - I have the Alessandro MS1s - which prob. are close to the Grado's. Being open headphones - these leak sound; and they're not the most portable. And I suspect, really benefit from an amp. If they're 'for home' headphones they're pretty good for that price bracket.

If you're willing to spend $130~ get a V-Moda M-80. They sound great and looks smexy. I've had it for almost 3 months now, and I use it everyday. Absolutely happy with it. They're a bit bass-shy though, so don't get them if your music is bass-heavy.

Do you have the Superlux? It's an amazing price point (ie. wonderfully not that expensive). What are the high notes like? Considering buying a pair...even though I should save pennies etc (apparently there is an EVO model out that might go some way to tone down the high note shrill)

The only thing I don't like about the sr-850 are the highs. They're kinda grating. But it shouldn't be all that bad if you don't listen to music/shows/movies really loud.

I use the Audio Technica ATH-M50s and I love them; MSRP is $150, but you can easily find some for around $100 if you shop around. The sound is very accurate and clear, and the bass is much better than most others in its price range.
