I want to know who is your favorite band. I personally like Simple Plan, All Time Low, Buono, and C-ute.

Aha, wouldn't be the first time.

Asylum is my favorite, but may be a little difficult for newcomers. Maria Dimension is the one I usually recommend for starters, though their discography is so immense it'd be best to try a few others as well, to get a feel for their music (you can use their RYM page as a guide; the highest rated albums there coincide with mine for the most part). And then there's Ka-Spel's solo work and the Tear Garden side project, which are also both very worthwhile, but let's see what you think of the LPD first.

If you click on the music section on their website I linked, it plays random Pink Dots songs.. and I just now noticed you can listen to several of their albums in full on last.fm. That is too awesome.

edit: By several, I mean the majority. Wow. I should just direct LPD newbies to last.fm from now on..

I used to be a big Radiohead fan (still am) but nowadays I'm leaning towards Modest Mouse, excluding their most recent album (no, its just not for me). If wer'e counting Japanese bands as separate, I'd go with The Pillows and AKFG a close second.

Alright then I'll listen to it tonight. You're becoming one of my favorite people to go to for recommendations

Good News was hit or miss for me. What really disappointed me about it was the lack of an epic song that I have grown accustomed to hearing from them. But, maybe that is just me.

Oh, sorry I haven't gotten to all your recs yet, I've been kinda taking a music break. It's good to do on occasion. Sometimes I'd just rather enjoy the silence.

Ah, since people are mentioning favorite Japanese bands.. mine would be Acid Mothers Temple. They're the ultimate psychedelic jam band, imo. If you're up for more recs, tolkkii, I'd suggest their Univers Zen ou de zéro à zéro album to start with.

No it's cool man, take your time.

If we're just talking about japanese bands then to me the only 3 worth mentioning are Boris, World's End Girlfriend, and Boredoms. But I will take you up on your rec and add Univers Zen ou de zéro à zéro to my wishlist and see if they can be the 4th.

Epic as in the style of the song. Good news had a lot more standard pacing, Intro, FV, Chorus, SV, Bridge, TV or Outro. On their earlier albums, there were quite a few songs that did not follow this formula. They featured an intro and combined FV then would do almost a complete 180 in the tempo department, so different in fact that it was almost like a different song. But, now I am digressing from the original topic and am discussing the style of the Mouse.

I can definitely see where you're going with this, but I would never just flat out call it "standard pacing". Bury Me With It is proof that they still have the 180 songwriting, it's just not as consistent.

Explain to me what is progressive "metal" about Porcupine Tree. I mean, sure, some of their releases border on metal at times, but that's pushing it.
