Just wondering if any of you guys play the guitar?

I've been playing for a couple of years and just recently got into anime so I've been learning a lot of songs from the OSTs.

for example, some songs i'm learning atm:

Roaring tides - clannad
Meg mell - clannad op
Reflect tier - true tears op
ichiban no takaramono - angel beats
tabi no tochuu - spice and wolf op
toki wo kizamu uta - clannad afterstory op
omoide wa tooku no hibi - 5 cm per second

just thought i'd ask and see if anyone else is playing anime OST songs on guitar. maybe we could discuss/help eachother out/provide tabs/share some ideas of songs to try/anything :)

thanks!

I've been playing for like 2-3 years as well, but I play bass rather than guitar.

I've learned to play some anime theme songs, and I have youtube videos up on my profile of them as well. So far I've learned the Haruhi-chan OP, Working!! OP, Kuragehime OP, Maria†Holic OP, and Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru ED, and I am working on the Baccano OP, Lucky Star OP, and Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei OP.

nice! if you ever feel like learning any of those songs i posted up there let me know!

and for the trigun op tabs, the best way to find tabs from my experience is to look for covers of the song in question on youtube, find one you like and most people provide a link to the tabs they used in the description. I would help you out right now but I'm at work so can't watch youtube videos :p

The anime ones I've done are actually on my MAL profile. This is my youtube channel though: [url=http://www.youtube.com/user/21Kyzix12]http://www.youtube.com/user/21Kyzix12

I have non-anime covers there too and some stuff from a band I was in during high school. I have tabs for almost all the covers I did (some of which are guitar pro so I have the guitar part too).

Played guitar for little over 2 years now, still a beginner though. Never tried learning any anime songs though, due to the lack of tabs and I guess I'm a bit too lazy to go out of my way to actually look for them. I'd be interested on the clannad tabs though, if you're willing to share them.

If you count total noobs, then I'm here.
I don't any anime musics yet, but not from lack of trying. I can do a decent *ahem-notthatgood-ahem* very slow version of the begining of "Magia" by Kalafina.

Actually, could you recommend any easy ones? 'OuO'

Ahmm well I have acoustic and people say i have talent but I lack technique, and yes thats true but if the song its understandable then its ok for me, i really dont want to learn any theory, that would be boring as hell, ive seen great guitarists out there admitting they know nothing about theory and I know maybe most of you have probably head about some music professional saying stuff like, if you dont know theory then you are not a musician, thats not true, Art its art its doesnt matter how idiot you are if you make things work then people would care about what you do.

I've been playing for about three years now. I guess I consider it a talent, I've done a bit with it. Unfortunately, I'm of the lazy (it's actually complicated) variety.

I can play by ear, by sheet music, and of course tabs. I play rock, jazz, blues, metal, and with my other instruments, classical and electronic as well. I also do a lot of composing from all those genres; although I'm not a solid singer (or possibly I just don't really try) so it's all instrumental. My main problem with composing is probably coming up with a lot of good melodies, although I improvise rather well. I know quite a bit of theory.

But being lazy-ish, I don't really do much nowadays with it. If I hear an anime soundtrack song I want to play? I know I could probably transcribe it/play it by ear, I've done it before, but I don't really feel like doing it so I don't. Meh. lol

Ya, I'm not very good at learning stuff by ear at all yet. I can manage sheet music fine though, and even do some sight reading as long as the tempo isn't too fast and it's all in bass clef. I really wish I could do stuff by ear well. There are so many songs I want to learn though I am starting to get it a little bit.

I've been playing guitar half-assedly for about 7-8 years. I usually learn songs by ear and tab, can't read sheet music. I stick to playing punk, metal and noise rock because it doesn't require much talent.

...and no, I don't play animu musik, I don't care for most of it.

I play guitar; I used to be a pretty good technical player, but started to hate wanking, so now I mostly just use it to suit my needs at the time (primarily use the guitar for sound effects and textures in the music I record).

I really wish I could do stuff by ear well. There are so many songs I want to learn though I am starting to get it a little bit.
I'd still call it lazy; I learned how to do it once, practicing a while, then stopped, and never honed the ability. :P I can read sheet music quite well, but I probably wouldn't do so well sight-reading.

And as far as playing by ear goes, I wish I was good enough to transcribe orchestral classical pieces. ._. Maybe that's asking for too much, but I feel like if I was any good at it, I could do that! But it's so overwhelming. But besides that, I can do jazz, rock, blues, and metal and stuff by ear for the most part. I still fail at transcribing shred solos, and riffs if the production sucks (although I guess that technically wouldn't be my fault). I guess I have exceedingly high expectations of myself. xD

Learning sheet music and playing by ear is actually really easy, at least at a basic level. Tabs, even easier; I understood them from day one. Playing by ear is intimidating, but just practice. Start with slow pieces (find a slow melody in an anime to play by ear). Hear one note at a time. Guess the note at every location on the guitar until you can find a note that sounds the same. Repeat; eventually it gets more natural.

Learning sheet music is less difficult than it sounds, but I guess it is a challenge to get started. That would require you to know the notes on the guitar. (i.e., where is E? Where is G? C? B flat? etc...) But it's very worthwhile; if you can get that down, then you can learn keys, and from there, you can improvise, which is a nice way of showing off without really trying. :P

The reason I learned this in 3 years is because I was mostly forced. I wanted to join a jazz band at school, back when I only knew tabs. The teacher was like "Um, yeah, everyone has to know how to read sheet music." I ultimately failed auditions that year, lol. (But forced practice, made it the year after).

I could probably transcribe a song for someone here if they wanted. Not like I really have anything better to do with my free time, other than... watch anime, of course. (Although if there's tons of instruments I'll probably shy away from it)

I might. Was there an instrument in specific you wanted transcribed? Or just all of them? If all of them, it might take a bit of time! (Although I'd be interested in trying this anyways, I liked this ending in Code Geass. Especially near the end of the season when it got all crazy. xD)

Unfortunately I couldn't get around to those yesterday - and in the Code Geass song, the guitar is hard to make out exactly what just it is doing (just like with the first opening). I found sheet music though - the Code Geass song is on this page, which seems to have the piano and vocal melodies transcribed - assuming you can read sheet music, I think the piano and guitar play the same chords. Guitar most likely playing bar chords.

This was made from another user at MAL which seems to be better and actually shows the chords (so you don't have to make out what they are from the sheet music).

The True Tears song is also on here, near the bottom of the page. At a first glance, it looks pretty accurate.

I'm sorry, I'm probably pretty useless at the moment. xD

For a lot of anime songs, typical tab/chord sites that have tabs/chords for rock songs and the like usually don't have them, but there are a lot of websites specifically for transcriptions for anime and video game songs out there.

I make guitars on and off as a hobby. Don't really know how to play. I know what's good and I know my way around music. Not much else to say.

you make guitars but you don't know how to play!?
Unfortunately I couldn't get around to those yesterday - and in the Code Geass song, the guitar is hard to make out exactly what just it is doing (just like with the first opening). I found sheet music though - the Code Geass song is on this page, which seems to have the piano and vocal melodies transcribed - assuming you can read sheet music, I think the piano and guitar play the same chords. Guitar most likely playing bar chords.

This was made from another user at MAL which seems to be better and actually shows the chords (so you don't have to make out what they are from the sheet music).

Im playing guitar too. For like...2.5 years..i guess oO im playing mostly jrock/jpop if i can find the tabs, since i cant do it by ear. recently im learning songs by Girls Dead Monster (find tabs here). Thousand Enemies and Run With Wolves are really great songs. Also songs from K-On, Spice And Wolf and...well everything i can find.
I always try to find tabs for songs by Maon Kurosaki (she made the EDs of Highschool of the Dead, but tabs are rare..). I managed to find Kimi To Taiyou Ha Shinda Hi on youtube but thats it :/ id rly like to learn fuss fuzz; theres a cover on youtube but without tabs grml..
if u find any tabs pls post them at www.ultimate-guitar.com ^^

you play electric shiroto?

i've actually tried playing a few girls dead monster songs, specifically alchemy on my electric but i can't seem to get the right sound out of my amp, i'm using a distortion pedal but still no luck.

i also tried playing ichiban no takeromono by girls dead monster on acoustic but it's friggin hard :( i have a tough time with bar chords and such, so that's why i stick mostly to finger picking

for example i'm doing roaring tides from clannad, tabi no tochuu from spice and wolf, etc. they sound amazing on acoustic fingerstyle

yea im playing electric. do u use a preamp? getting the right sound is indeed a pain sometimes..im currently rearranging tabi no tochuu for 2 electric guitars, since i dont have an acoustic. i hope itll turn out alright; wanna play it >.<

i had my problems with bar chords as well, but u just need to practice them daily and soon ull get it. i postponed me learning them for ages but then i learned them in a few weeks lol

a preamp is like an amp before the amp..well its not rly and amplifier but changes the sound of your guitar greatly. u should rly get one if u have trouble finding the right sound.
acoustic guitar is too much fingery for my taste XD im probably the worst guitarist on ths planet since i cant move my fingers well..took lots of time to train my left hand. now im to lazy to train the right :/ maybe i should restart learning piano

any help would be appreciated, thanks!

also take a minute to watch the video :) it's a great cover of a beautiful song

If anyone's interested, I did a bass cover of the season one Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei opening (I don't have tabs, but I could probably write something up if anyone wants them):

I should have the Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei opening up relatively soon too, and I do have guitar and bass tabs for that.
