difference between 6vol and 9vol version?

I was planning to start this series so I went to the library and to my surprise there's only 6 volumes avaible. I checked on wikipedia and they are actually 2 version. One with 9 volumes and one with 6 volumes. Am I going to miss stuff if I read the 6vol version ? According to wikipedia the 6vol version is better if I plan to read the sequel Last Order.
