I don't know about you guys, but there mere thought of having an ability to block users makes me cringe with horror. What will happen to the army of wannabe trolls and 13 year-old boys that invade MAL daily, posting their lovely "LOLOLOL I'M SO FUCKING COOL, AND YOU'RE A DUMBASS" comments(Of course this would be phrased in their highly trained skill of "net speak" which we all strive to deliver in an equally awe-inspiring manner)? We must look out for their rights as well! If this function gets implemented, they will be forced...to leave! Now, who would want that?!?!
Seriously, i never had any problem with MAL's trolls.
Well, don't see any problem with blocking them, since they are getting on your nerves, but that a whole more coding to be made, when you can simply ignore that person easily.

We are talking about people who create lots of new accs just to create havok, mess with scores and sxrew with other users.
Blocking would be for naught. All that user would have to do is create a new fake acc, and he bypassed your so called "protection".

Faggots are stuborn creatures, ignoring it is the slowest and most annoying way to get rid of them.

As people have said many times before (if you had bothered to read), many annoying things and subtle trolling is not actually bannable, nor does it necessarily warrant a deletion. Nor would I want it to be bannable or deletable since that would suck. Also, people find different things annoying, and this system would allow each user to tailor make his own "filter". Lastly, it is faster to click ignore than to summon up the powers that be. Mods are limited in number and are not on 24/7. Therefore, this makes sense as a stopgap before the more permanent solution can be meted out (if it gets meted out, I should say).

Problematic how? Everything that's been said so-far against this has been shot down, have something new?

Why have something new, when you can stick to something old?
uh haha are you serious

for one thing, what you're saying implies that we should never improve things ever, and that's absolutely ridiculous

for another thing, this thread was created because what we have now DOES NOT WORK. people can say 'oh you can skip past posts by people you don't like', but that does not have the same effect as blocking someone.

seriously, if a forum as huge as gaia can have a consistently working block system, i don't see why mal can't.

I like the idea, I'd also like to expand on this idea.

Gmail's spam report saves the number of times different users report the same type of e-mail as spam. If enough users report it as spam, google automatically marks these e-mails as spam for people that may have no received them. Then when they do get them they're auto moved into the spam folder thus reducing the need for them to open it and risk being infected and whatnot.

Keeping the above in mind, it would be sweet if MAL had a system similar to this for "ignored" users. It would be an option of course since some people may not want to auto ignore users. So for example if another angel999 shows up and starts posting super sized posts on the forum and the majority are pissed at this user. If xx number of users press the "ignore user" link (which would display next to everyones name on the forums) then his account would be added to the global ignore list for xx amount of days. If you have the auto ignore feature on then MAL would simply collapse all his posts so you wouldn't have to see them.

You'd have to at least give some mods the ability to pull people off an ignore list. I've used a similar setup to what you've mentioned and people who don't deserve to be ignored get dumped onto it, mainly for offending others with a perfectly legitimate comment. Though I should say a global ignore feature is very handy for spammers, but from what I've seen on this board I don't know if it's necessary. Admittedly I haven't been here long so I haven't seen it all, and I'm probably used to more hectic forums. But yeah, a lot of those who ended up on our global ignore list were permabanned or IP banned shortly after, dunno if that's what you're going for here.

Ahh, actually, a thought just struck me. How would this feature be implemented in clubs? If someone ignores a user and the ignored user posts in a club, would the first user be able to see the seconds' post? Just curious.

True, in the past year there's only been about 4 people that actually did anything substantial that pissed the majority of MAL off....I think all 4 where actually the same person too lol.

I suppose a mod driven black list might be better.

I think it'd be best if it was more or less like.. it shows the ignored poster makes the post.

You can click on the post, but there's this toggle thing with rather than showing his/her post, it shows just that their posts are being ignored. Then the following posts would continue like a normal thread, assuming you haven't blocked them as well.

I think that'd also be nice to have just incase you block someone by a missclick.

I hope that made sense, its 5 am.

So now that this has seven pages of nearly only "aye"-sayers, can we imagine that it has a shot at being implemented? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

Funnily enough, you're higher on my list than koolaid... by about a factor of 10...

Actually, you're the only one I'd block...

But that's only cos you keep calling everyone your kid and want to drop 1000 anime.
