I played it on various consoles, like the PlayStation and Steam/PC. I wonder if you ever played it. And did you like it or not?
I have approximately 1 terabyte of anime on my computer.

@deg i am not sure if those arcade machines exist in the 2020s. They are probably gone at this point.

@mai-chan_1990 arcade games hardly exist outside of Japan in the 2020s if I recall correctly......

Yes, i knew of its existence since february of 2000 when me and two other junior high classmates skipped a school trip to have a fun day together that ended in a city arcade, but didn't watch them play it since i was more busy with Tekken Tag Tournament (months before the PS2 release) and Point Blank 2. But starting in early 2002, me and my best friends became obsessed with the series, especially 1, 2 and X at first plus 3 midway through the summer of 2002 and 4 during the following fall. Played 5, 6, 7 and Defense too but way less often, in fact i still mix up their levels internally before rarely returning to those.

We had a ongoing tradition with the games from 1 to 4... if we managed to save some POWs after defeating the boss, we jokingly called them by name out loud one by one especially because some of them sounded so weird. And i always fondly remember a prank i pulled on a friend of mine while playing the third game. He knew that player one would always have his character kidnapped by the aliens shortly after the beginning of the final mission, so he insisted to always stay as player 2 (he always picked Eri while i always switched between Marco and Tarma) also because we always played at my place. But one day, with him not suspecting a thing, i just waited on purpose to hit the continue button after running out of lives until the junior boss was defeated and enjoyed his annoyed reaction with a amused smile... he didn't get until it was too late that being player 2 would have not protected him by aliens abduction if player 1 wasn't physically present in that exact moment.

Yeah I've played some Metal Slug games on an arcade machine. The cabinet looked a bit weird so I don't know if it was legit or emulated. The arcade situation is a bit strange around here due to some past legislation so there aren't a lot of original old arcade machines around.

I have played some of them when I was younger. I like them, but they're kind of hard and I'm not that good at them..

When I was younger we used to play this flash game on the internet called Commando 2 which was obviously inspired by Metal Slug. It was probably one of my favorite games, I liked going around and collecting the different weapons~

@DesuMaiden Honestly the humor and the vehicles, thats the think I liked the most. And even the silly story to some extend, I mean, the ending of the Metal Slug X when you side with the enemies you have been killed to fight the alies is just too amazing.

Heck heck yeah I have! As a fan of Contra I love Metal Slug. There was even an obscure PS2 3D Port that came out only in Japan that I recently discovered.

Yes, I have. Mostly Metal Slug X for the PS1 as well as the Anthology for the PS2. Not a big fan, but they can be fun to play.

I respect your opinion as long as you respect mine.
