Wow, this is crazy. Was it that popular? I'm still 5 episodes away from the last one, but I don't see anything special in this one, even for otaku culture.

Love the first season so hyped for this. My only complaint is that I wish it had been more explicit like the manga.

@einstorage6691 In the manga they show cleavage, Panty shots and even nudity (boobs) that aren't in the anime.

@Yui_Suzumiya69 I'm pretty sure they do showing a lot of cleavage and nudity on anime too, do you have specific scene that are different? is the boob you mention here also showing some nips in manga?

@einstorage6691 the manga has a bit more explicit nudity and fanservice, like compare chapter 1 of the manga with episode 1.

It's pretty easy to understand why they toned it down, they are trying to really sell the cosplay sports aspect, an aspect the series didn't originally have because it was planned to be a 2-3 volume ecchi short series, before the editor asked for him to try a new idea, and Nagomis arc really hit the series off, and thus we're at volume 22 and counting. The fanservice in the series has not been the same as the early manga since.

The volume releases also do depict nipples, and also that was the pirated version from fantranslation to ripping the official volume release before we had simulpub, so like, talks about there being no version of the anime with nipples is like silly

The anime is so very clearly just intended to be like a web version analogue, along with all the hindsight of where the series is now.

I'm pretty much lost from your second paragraph, so in summary it IS censored, but at later volume the mange is not as ecchi as the earlier works, is that what you mean?

If the different is just as little as nips peek then I don't mint at all, I just hope they don't heavily censored to the point change the scene like in Goblin Slayer S2

I can confirm alot of what SevensDran is talking about. The manga goes from multiple pages of various ecchi per volume to a few pages every 2-3 volumes.

As for the censoring it is omnipresent in the anime,I did not count but I would say 10-15 instances of either toned down scenes or removed in the first episode. While the scenes largely play the same just about every trick was used to do so, clothing that covers more, changed angles, conveniently placed objects, and so many more.

On an ecchi level the manga in the first few chapters I would way it is on a similar level to Highschool of the Dead, with the frequency of To Love Ru.
Later chapters I would honestly say the ecchi is infrequent and mild enugh that I wouldn't think of it as an echhi, maybe My dress up Darling levels.

I'm part of the crowd that was disappointed not only in the later chapters, but with the anime as well. Felt like I was bait and switched.

sorry but why do you need ecchi in an anime about high school girls? especialy if it does NOTHING for the story. If i want to see anime boobs i watch hentai.
All this oversexualisation of girls in anime, especialy in series where its completly not needed for anything puts the anime hobby in a strange corner and i dont see why this is necessary.

This anime has a great story, great character development and shows the cosplay hobby really great.

Why does it need to be sexualised? Especialy if the girls are all teenagers. I seriously dont get it.

Again: I understand the charm of naked anime girls, but if i want that i watch hentai. I dont see any reason why i need to see girls pantys and so on in anime which has nothing to do with sex in the first place.

and all that things like that do is putting the anime community in a weird corner.
