I watched the anime this year and I liked the anime. When I read that the manga was still being continued and there was no information about season 2, I thought it was a pity. I read on the forum, some people write that the anime needs a reboot than a 2nd season, because it came out in 2015. Look at the Bleach anime, bleach fans waited 10 years and got information that the Pierrot studio will produce the last TBV saga. I waited 6 years for the last TBV saga. There are other anime that got another season after 15 years, even 8 years.

But Bleach is one of the biggest anime ever. Adapting the last arc was not a risk. The fanbase is massive.

Fanbase for Yona is way smaller so it's better to do a reboot to get new people onboard. Most people wouldn't catch up with season 1 just to watch season 2, unless ot would be THE show to watch in its season, which I don’t think would happen.

Apparently they didn't make enough of the anime sales, but the manga is going strong and I definitely recommend. Plus, Hak looks even better in the manga, just saying

Many people are asking for season 2 of Akatsuki no Yona but this was the reply given by one of the animators involved

Quick translation:
I'm sorry, I can't reply to each of you individually, but I think whether or not the second season of the anime will be made depends more on the support of the fans than on anime staff like me. Anime can't move on to the next season unless it sells well as an anime.

The manga seems to be doing well and is currently in its final arc so I hope some other studio eventually picks it up

It’s great that you picked it up and enjoyed it, but if you want more, you’re probably better off going to the manga. it’s been a very long time since season one and though there are examples for such overdue sequels, it’s pretty damn rare and somewhat unlikely.

The manga is awesome though and pretty consistent throughout in my opinion.

@Maou_heika
So the manga hasn't ended yet? Why does the anime have so few fans? Does that mean the manga has more fans than the anime?

If the manga ends, I'd love to watch a 2nd season or if it does, a reboot

@betaweeb What is the difference between manga and anime if you wrote that manga is more coherent?

@Legolas301

it's not necessarily more coherent or anything like that. the anime was great, don't get me wrong, it's just that it aired a decade ago and there's no sign of any animated continuation. also, the anime adapted around 7 or 8 volumes if i recall correctly and there are more than 40 by now, so if you want more of the story, the manga is the only realistic option.

Nop, it's still ongoing. We are currently officially in the Final Arc tho, and the story gave that feeling of being almost done for years, now.

That's an Shoujo from 10 years ago, with only a single Season. Naturally, its popularity declined over the years, but it was extremely popular back then.

As a Manga gets closer to its end, the chances of a continuation of adaptations seriously diminish, as there is no reasons for the publisher to product an Anime, which is basically only an ads for them. If they wanted to do a 2nd Season, they would have done it around 2016/17, when it was not too long after the 1st Season to maintain its popularity, but not too close to not have enough material to adapt and bait new readers, while also having margin to bank on new viewers.

When were the chapters released, e.g. weekly?

I checked when the volumes were released and saw that they were released every year and every 3 months they were released. I read that then the release of manga was stopped due to the earthquake.

Do shoujo anime always only produce 1 season, or is it similar to shounen? I know that the shounen audience is more for boys and shoujo for girls, although boys can also watch and read shoujo. Also the other way around, girls can also watch anime and read shounen manga/LN. I am a man and I watched a lot of shoujo anime. Other anime such as Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni got a 2nd season after 6 years and others after e.g. 10 years. So it depends on the popularity of the manga/LN and anime fans?

Sorry if in your opinion I am asking stupid questions.
It would be better if the anime got a reboot, as long as they did not spoil the plot changes a bit, the drawings.

It's bi-weekly (twice a month), but the Author took a lot of breaks lately, so it's often monthly.

Nah, it's similar to Shonen, but as everything depends on the popularity of the source material, and how much money can the producers (especially the publisher) can get, Shoujo do often gets only 1 Season, if they ever get adapted, that is.

Shoujo tends to be less popular than Shonen. That's especially the case if we talk about Shonen Jump's titles, which are absolutely crazy popular, and thus often gets multiple Seasons adaptations.

Basically, yeah.

The publishers are the ones who choose if a work can get an adaptation. They most generally are the ones pushing for it, as it's basically a giant ads for them, so they can use it to boosts the sales of all Volumes (new/upcoming for old fans, old ones and potentially more for new fans). However, if the work is in Hiatus, or close to be/already completed, they won't win much anymore, as the majority of their (actual and potential future) sales are already done.

There is also cases where it's a producer (Netflix, Aniplex, Crunchyroll, ...), or even sometimes a specific Animation director, who are interested in working on a certain title, because they think they can bank on it, and try to convince the publishers and other producers to let them do it.

For your example of Isekai wa Smartphone, it's a Light Novel started in 2015 and still ongoing, with currently 30 Volumes (the Author released around 4 Volumes per year, which is huge). It was popular, and got a great boost of sales and popularity after the 1st Season, and continued like that for years. The Author greatly slowed down his releases around 2021 tho, doing 2 Volumes per year. The sales started to decline a lot, so the publisher probably wished to give it another boost (which doesn't seems to work, the sales of the latest Volume are at their lowest i think, so i doubt there'll be a 3rd Season).

Other cases are generally in the same scenario.

Agreed. And hopefully the new studio will draw Hak properly. The one that did the anime made him all skinny. Hak is muscular and thick, not skinny.

Aside from that, I did enjoy the anime and the voice cast for the most part, though, I felt the chick they used for Yona's voice in the dub didn't work that great for that character. There were times her voice was ok, but mostly I kept wishing they'd chosen someone else.

And also, we need more of Zeno
