I think xy and xyz both have their strong points. Xy feels more like a chill show and ash going through the motions to become champion. Xyz is just when stuff gets more serious. I personally like xy for the more relaxed stuff but I can see why people would prefer the action and battles of xyz.

I like the XYZ opening better, and I've always favored the plot of XYZ over XY anyway

Yes in total XY is better. YXZ felt little bit like ok we took our time for this nice ride through Kalos with som of the best eps in whole Pokémon but somehow now we need to break it down and finish it. it was not waaay overrushed but u got that feeling a little bit.

It’s an average season for me.

Curious why you’re bothered by Serena having her match first before Ash?

I don't know why it is even a question? XYZ had some of the best episodes in all of the Pokemon franchise.

At that time, Ash vs Alain & Ash vs Swayer were one of the peak battles Ash ever had in his journey.
And then Zygarde arc! It was like an Endgame of the XY series. It really levelled up at that moment like any other shounen series and that's enough for me to pick it over XY series anyday.

Also underrated opinion, XYZ English opening song is among the Top 3 best Pokemon opening of all time.

This is a take that I can absolutely get behind. I enjoy rewatching XY more than XYZ but the highest moments in the series are obviously in XYZ however I really love the filler in XY which is unusual for me to watch a long series 3 times fully. Absolutely the best gen of the Pokémon anime I’ve seen thus far

XYZ is by far my favorite Pokémon season. Phenominal. Also, its set up so well by the 4-part Mega Evolution special.

I always find it funny that in Gen V, Team Plasma is the best, most efficient, most ruthless team in all of the games. But in the anime, they are absolutely useless and incompetent. Worst team in the anime.

Its the opposite with Gen VI. Team Flaire is the most useless and incompetent team in the games. Worst team in the games. But in the anime, awesome, efficienct, ruthlessly evil. Best team in the anime.

Fun disparity. But Team Flare in XYZ is off the chain. Best villains. That season feels like its an extended Pokémon movie rather than a season of the show.
