I do, because it has a lot of things you would see in your average shonen. A main character thats hungry and wants to fight all the time, plot armor sometimes, and a goal to become the best. I just want to see the majority of people think.

The manga definitely fell on that category but the anime is definitely in the kids demographic.

Yeah, cause it just is. No matter how someone might feel or think about it - it is a Shonen.

Not really, but I guess technically it could be considered shounen, so I'm not really going to argue against it or anything. It's just that I've spent so many years differentiating it from other anime so that's probably why it seems off to me.

This ground is soiled by those before me and their lies. I dare not look up for on me I feel their eyes

It is definitely a shounen given the overall presence of bishoujo girls. Just look at the gym leaders designs. If it were shoujo the leads would be pretty boys in which ash is not.

Shounen is a demographic and yes it refers to young boys. There’s not much to decipher here when it is categorized as one already.

Yes, it was shonen and had a general emphasis on proxy battles. I dunno what it is now.

Yes because Shounen is just a demographic, a category of human population, in this case for manga series. It's a category manga magazines assign to their series to clarify which is the JAPANESE ONLY target audience (Shounen="young boy", typically described around 12-16 years old). It doesn't mean fight or action, those are GENRES, a Shounen series can be action/fights like Dragon Ball, harem romcom like Nisekoi (the most common Shounen type nowdays) or any other genre/theme/plot/whatever.
This is the same for the other demographics (Shoujo, Seinen, Josei & Kodomo).

It’s not. Shonen anime are created exclusively for boys. When Pokémon was created they had both genders in mind.

No I usually investigate the demographic rather than going by feeling
