Description says "Compilation film of the three Kizumonogatari movies" so that means it won't have new information about the story? In other words nothing new under the sun?

They could add some scenes that was excluded from the novel, but regardless, this is a disappointing announcement.

I wish we'd get an announcement of a sequel of the latest novels already.
We've been waiting for years since Shaft claimed they would do it.

This movie is a rip off.
Who wants a condensed movie of three movies. What a waste. Regardless of it being used for promotion.

It's not even great in comparison to the novel.
It didn't have the same dark depressing or scary feeling the original had at all.
It's from the same director, so it won't be much better.

How can you make a compilation movie of a cinematic trilogy? It doesn't make any sense.

People are saying its meaningless but perhaps this could be good. I personally love the kizu trilogy but I know some people get really mad at the cut content so this could be a compilation with new scenes that were unadapted. Not to mention kizu plays a VERY relevant role in Off and Monster season so this could be generating hype for those (I'm coping)

If this is like a 3 hr and 30 min movie with extra scenes, I would be happy it exists so people can easily watch kizumonogatari after bakemonogatari

Kinda meh tbh. Of all the things Shaft could adapt they chose this. I love the Monogatari series but a recap movie about a trilogy doesn't sound appealing at least not to me.

This could be their way of generating enough money for future Monogatari projects but all in all meh.

pessimism: they'll cut content and make it shorter

optimism 1.0: they won't cut any content

optimism 2.0: they'll add new content

This is Shaft's way of saying, 'If you want new content, give us money first'. It's Monogatari Series funds raising project. You basically give money to Shaft and Aniplex, and in return they give you Kizu recap and maybe a promise of future adaptations. Unlike the new Madoka Magica Movie which is obviously funded by gacha money, Monogatari Series currently doesn't have similar income source.

This is hilarious, sounds like SHAFT's following Rockstar Games but doing it with even less effort... But hey, I'm sure new Monogatari fans woold be able to watch this and proceed with the rest in any order they chose...

Probably just making some money and/or checking for interest in them doing more monogatari stuff.
They should just adapt off season already

Edit: If I were optimistic about this, I'd also consider that they are letting their new staff (most left at some point 5-6 years ago) get familiar with what Shaft has already done in regards to monogatari before asking them to make more new content that would mimic that style

this notification brought me so much joy

and then ripped my heart out when i clicked on it.

i love kizu, its easily one of my favorite arcs, but the novel and the trilogy already adapt it so well that I cant be excited for a compilation. the cut scenes might be added (which I doubt, kizu is the least dialouge heavy arc and adding in dialouge heavy scenes might conflict with the pacing of a movie), but that would be about the only new content.

If its true that "According to Nisio Tsushin, Aniplex has announced that Shaft will animate all the Monogatari novel series of Nisio Isin" its heavily dissapointing that the last content we got was Zoku 5 whole years ago.

Its not a zero% chance that this is being made to build hype for Off Season, but I wouldn't neccasarily say its a high chance either.

that being said; im not sure if its a coincidence that this release happened after Family Season started being worked on. maybe thats just hopium tho

There seem to be a lot of people here who are a bit annoyed at the fact that we’re getting a reboot instead of new content, but honestly I’m just happy that Monogatari is getting some more attention.

Monogatari was already fairly popular, so asking for it to get more attention makes zero sense. The issue I see here is it will be a re-cut version of all 3 movies in one with a lot of context scenes removed. The end fight will likely have the baby scene removed and the pre-battle prep scene will likely be shortened to a few bits of dialogue. Also, expect the grope fail to be cut, so the entire context for Bake and Neko are effectively gone.

Also, Araragi won't be patting any bat heads.

Honestly, I'd probably just skip it since the Kizu trilogy was already perfect in its entirety. Not only that, but SHAFT is going to make a killing off the Madoka movie and that in itself should give them enough funding to adapt another Bake LN. Granted, I could be wrong on everything, and I hope it's just a lot of time saved between scenes like all the "dark screen" cuts. But those were essential in both the main series and the movies, so removing them also undermines the story by quite a bit.

"When a piece of media is bad, it's much easier to nitpick the less significant things because they're seen as a part of the problem.
