Ranking them is frankly pretty easy.

Kazuma (literally carries the show on his back) > Megumin (objectively the most well written female character in the show + Rie Takahashi) > Aqua (iconic to the point of creating an entire sub-genre after her) >>>>> Darkness (she’s kinda funny but that’s it)

Kazuma is the worst character. A perverted MC, otherwise pretty average and pathetic human being. The worst thing about him is that he is generally pretty useless in a lot of situations, but reaps the credit for the actions of his companions and then has the audacity to criticize them for incompetence.

Second-worst would be Lalatina, who is pretty one-dimensional as a character. She eventually shies away at some point, but not much character development overall. Despite all that, she at least has some use as a shield, and is pretty good at her job.

I think of Aqua as a pretty funny character, despite being pretty infuriating and self-serving (a trait shared by all the protagonists, might I say). Despite her lack of brains, she does help when it counts and has a ridiculous amount of power despite everything.

Now I believe Megumin is the best character. What many people may not like is what I think of as her best traits : her absolutely gigantic ego, as well as her cringey expressions. The origins behind her "cringey" expressions are explained in the anime "Megumin : an explosion in this wonderful world", I think of it as a cultural practice of some kind.
While not looking like it, she is also very smart and reasonable, on equal footing with Kazuma if not above him.
She chose to specialize in explosion magic, which while not being the most efficient spell energy-wise is the most powerful spell one can learn. Being able to launch a small atomic bomb, even once a day, is pretty ballers.

I don’t feel the need to explain why hes special. You know why.

Aqua is such a unique and funny character. Shes not a good character tho lol (if you wanted to deal with her that is) Her design is pretty dope and she wears stripe panties she also lands on numerous of moist puns as well as being a fucking adult walking child.

Megumin has a pretty cool kinda japanese ish hairstyle and she feels more like a chunnibyo reference on her own rather then that being her purpose as a character. She also has a pretty good Va and her design is pretty darn cool
(And they do more with her. And that’s pretty cute. Won’t say what for spoiler reasons)

Darkness really makes this squard cover all the genre’s this anime is making a parody of. Shes sometimes too much and that’s the joke, shes just that one lady you just have enough with but the joke here is that shes completely beyond hopeless but also the best built in the party at the same time. What the fuck.

Also too that one person with the megumin keyboard. I was laughing my ass off to that.
