Wasn't this film a tad too melodramatic and pointless

This film seemed to forget the build up of season 3 and it just felt like filler until the last scene, no significant development in their relationship was shown.
And that Cat plotline was so freaking melodramatic, it was just a cat, a CAT, why all the tears like someone got killed. I'm surprised it's this highly rated or is it just me.

Yeah man, kinda agree with that. They could just focusing on building their relationship and highschool plot.

This movie was kind of "too much" slice of life 🤧. Anyways i enjoyed it overall and ending just so sweet.

The whole series is like that, Episodic SoL. Romantic development never was the goal. The way the series started it tells you to assume they are already together in some level.

it's an slice of life anime and top of that it's also iyashikei,
so what were you expecting from it?
Romance is not main focus of it

I honestly thought the S3 ending was better, the movie felt a little pointless. But it was cute anyway

It was alright. I gave it a 7 and I moved on. It wasn't better than the series for sure.

It's highly rated because only hardcore fans such as myself bothered to watch it. The K-On movie, Gintama movies, and 2nd Cardcaptor Sakura movie are the same.

I haven't watched the movie yet, still going to rewatch the 3 seasons first but this anime was always about how sweet and innocent they are in their approach to everything. I read a bit of what goes on except the ending and it feels like it is season 3 but you get 3 episodes bundled into 1.
Maybe they backed out a bit from the end of season 3 which ended in a sweet but very uncharacteristically "sober up" which would naturally settle in so they would naturally go back to their normal way of living their relationship with the extra information in the back of their heads.
This is what a romance should be if we talk about build up, it is slow due to their age but their innocence and obliviousness is sweet and makes sense, every other romance takes as much to get anything going and you can see how much the writters but into imagined plot devices to stall.
Maybe I am being a bit biased because I really enjoy the concept and it also hits home for me so take it with a grain of salt.
