Cast doubt on their English if they are non-native speakers, cast doubt on their Japanese if they are native. Doing such is nothing difficult and doubt is not in entanglement with reality. As far as I am aware Muse Communication has licensed many acclaimed shows and does not show sign of halt. Given this information it is fair to assume that those hired to do subtitle work should not be any less competent than those who do it for corporations like Netflix and Cruncyroll, the pay is not too competitive or even that high, supply is plenty and not many people are even required. Muse is a business and though it may not seem apparent, is directly competing with the likes of Crunchyroll and Netflix. Those employed by them are actual professionals with qualifications and work experience to back it up, you can simply not just dismiss their work as subpar attribute to them ‘not being native speakers’. To put it in the simplest way I can, imagine an English major from Singapore who got a TEFL certification and went to Japan as an English teacher. Feeling distant from the local community and his workplace you can then imagine that person going to a japensese learning school and later working a part time shift at a local starbucks in order to gain greater proficiency at the language and to raise some finances. Feeling homesick or due to any other reason, such a person can then head back to Singapore and make a living off of subtitling anime for the local Muse Communication alongside his work partner who just so happens to have a degree in Japanese. People like that do exist and they will be more than qualified than any other to do subtitle work. Your outlook seems to be too narrow, place of birth is irrelevant as regardless of being a native speaker or not a professional is a professional. Moreover, it may as well be possible that Muse may have unregistered employees in way of them commissioning people who may as well be ‘native speakers’ on the internet to do translation work for them or to search for any mistakes or possible improvements in already translated work. This will refute your entire what seems to now be a ‘claim’.
