You can choose to get a gift prepared by the elves for "free". You don't need to make a gift and you don't get the badge if you sign up for that. However, OP stated they WANT to do an gift exchange (write AND get gift) which usually includes the badge. But as I said, you can tell the staff that you don't want a badge/get it removed when you signed up for the exchange. Pretty sure that's not written anywhere (since most people sign up for the exchange ESPECIALLY for the badge). |

| I do agree with you. I like badges and I don't see why they are ugly, but in my opinion everyone should be able to do with them as they want. Making it so that badges are optional will fix this as people are not forced to have badges on their profile anymore. IMO good suggestion, i think a feature like this is common on most websites and should be added as not everyone wants the badges publicly shown on their profile |

| I googled this and ended up here and I concur with OP's post. There's one badge I would want but I dislike the idea of having badges in general. |

| I don't think you should make the receiving of the badge 'optional', but just an option to hide them from your profile would be nice. That way you can still see all of your achievements on this site whenever you want, without it disturbing the general theme of your profile. If my profile theme is centered around the color blue, I would want to be able to hide my badges since they will stick out like a sore thumb. |

| +1 I got one badge on a whim and don't plan on getting more so it looks out of place in my profile. I would like to hide it. |
