Which series did you think you better better fmab and fma in these aspects

1. Story
2. Character development
3. Tone
4. Music
5. End
6. Philosophy ( it is optional)

Not including animation and pacing for obvious reason and here are mine

1. Story = fmab
2. Character development = both are at same level
3. Tone = fma
4. Music = fmab
5. End = fmab
6. Philosophy = fma

Brotherhood stayed more faithful to the manga, and it was for the better. The story of the first just kind of fell off at the end and didn’t make sense. I’m not saying the FMA was bad, don’t get me wrong it is great. But FMAB was just so much better. Animation, soundtrack, story it all just made sense. But above all else it has a beginning and an end. FMAB starts and then ends on a satisfying note. Done. It’s finished. You can’t do anything else. However FMA on the other hand starts and then ends on a stupid ending that makes you say, “How does this make sense?” Then you are fed multiple movies continuing off where it left off. And in the end nothing changes from the start of the film. All in all. Even though they are both great series. I believe FMAB was better than FMA.

Story- FMA (more mature and deep approach)

Char Development- FMA (chars are more deep, mature again)

Tone- FMA (mature, dark tones against lighthearted tones of FMAB)

Music- FMA (much more captivating music)

End- FMA(more dramatic, bittersweet unlike shounen FMAB)

Philosophy- FMA (lol does even FMAB has a philosophy, everything toned down )

this is my OWN opinion and idc about manga even if FMAB is more faithful to manga.

I think this is one of the rare cases where original anime is better than the faitful adaptation.

Just as pure oxygen is harmful to the body, the naked truth has the power to destroy men's minds. Only by diluting it with lies and taking it in small doses can humans maintain a healthy soul.

Imo the original FMA is kinda dark. Theiy also have a good development. But I think FMA is not for everyone, especially the plot. I found FMAB to be more enjoyable and fun to watch

1. Brotherhood, by a lot

2. Also Brotherhood, but not by quite as much

3. About even; they both have some tone-breaking moments, especially early on.

4. 2003 has a significantly better soundtrack

5. Brotherhood, and it's not remotely close.

6. 2003 has more thematic depth to it, but Brotherhood is still very strong here.

brotherhood was hard to bear, I pushed through the anime eventhough I wanted to drop it, it shows that it was geared towards a certain demographic, all the themes are tackled on base level and not properly executed, then talk about a Disney ending whereby there is a happy ending with no significant deaths, the only saving grace is Scar ,but even his character is not treated well, which leaves me baffled as his motives are justified .

1. Brotherhood, this is not even a competition. FMA started out great but the final alternate earth thing in felt really forced as there was no foreshadowing of this throughout the show. It just felt like someone made it up on the spot to quickly wrap the show whereas in Brotherhood everything is heavily foreshadowed.

2. FMA slightly, due to Lust. The only other character which underwent significant character development in both the shows was Scar.

In terms of Characters however I'd say Brotherhood was better. Hohenheim, Greed, Bradley, Envy, Kimbley, Winry were more complex in FMAB on the other hand Hughes, Lust, Sloth and Yoki were better in FMA. The new characters like Ling Yao and Olivier were far better than say Tringum brothers or Archer. Rest of them were almost the same.

3. I'll give this to FMA. FMAB's light hearted tone was totally fine with me but I'd have preferred a more darker atmosphere.

4. Definitely FMA. Oshima's Bratja is one of the best anime soundtracks I've ever heard and nothing from Akira Senju's OST can compare to it.

5. I think this one is obviously Brotherhood. Honestly, they shouldn't have made that sequel, inconsistent mess Conqueror of the Shamballa. Even though the ending of FMA was terrible, I'd have preferred that one the movie. They just poured more oil into the fire.

6. The main philosophy, Equivalent exchange, was omnipresent in either of them. The same goes for the topic of Science vs Religion. However I really liked Bradley's philosophy of self dependance in Brotherhood so I'll give this one to FMAB.

There were a few things that FMA did better but overall, I prefer FMAB like the majority.

I like the darker tone of fma as for fmab it felt like a comedy ever scene with the constant gag faces.

Really interesting question.
I think that's more about generation than a real opinion.
Who has grown up with FMA can really appreciate the entire opera, i also think that it changed the point of view on Anime in the world (even with Death Note in that years).
Obviously, FMAB was producted after several years, so the technical side is naturally better.
But about the OST, in my opinion, FMA is one of the Best Anime ever.
The plot is maybe the real topic on which we can discuss, i appreciate a little bit more the dark side of FMA, but we're talking about two series that can be ranked as 10 and 10+...
Simply a wonderful opera!

FMA was one of the first anime I watched cos I'd heard good things, FMAB was already out but I didn't know enough at the time to know the difference, so I watched FMA. I've never taken the time to watch FMAB because I hear its mostly the same until the end, and I had a perfectly enjoyable time with the original, so I'd rather not retread mostly the same story.

personally i like FMAB more than FMA because i'm the type to reference it to the manga it came from (if it has one) and watching FMA i can't ignore the fact that i'm kinda stunned as to how stranded it is from the original manga 🥲 don't get me wrong there are lots of anime that also kinda stranded from the manga but for this case only FMA has way too stranded to the point that the storyline kinda doesn't make any sense or rather it doesn't even have a developing plot and the ending is nice but it doesn't feel complete

I like FMA 2003 much more than Brotherhood in every way. I prefer the seriousness instead of the comedy all the time and much preferred the bittersweet ending of FMA 2003 instead of the happy one that FMAB had. And there were story changes that FMA made that was a lot better overall.

Yes. ...but also no. Honestly, the comparison kinda just whatever.

All I know is that the Brotherhood fanboys need to chill the fuck out.

I watched 03 before b, and though I think both had their merits, I’d certainly say 03 was the more memorable of the two, and if I wanted to rewatch the show, 03 is the one I’d go with. Still thought both were quite good, though.

EDIT: I’m a little shocked that people think B so unambiguously had the better ending. I was disappointed by it, but maybe in large part because I thought the standard shonen “good guys throw attacks at the raid boss until his HP bar is gone” was a little underwhelming and been-there-done-that after the comparatively adventurous 03 ending, which I quite liked.

FMA03 does the Homonculous alot better. Both the design, storytelling, and philosophy. 6/7 of the Homonculous were better done in FMA, and yes, that's includes Greed. I found Greed/Ling to be one of the worst parts of Brotherhood for sure. Only Homonculous that's better in Brotherhood is CLEARLY Bradley. Lust is the biggest difference for FMA03, with that version absolutely trouncing her Brotherhood version.

Overall I love both series but I consider FMA03 to be my preference

both have their strengths and weaknesses. I loved in the original how a humlunculus is created. very emotional. the ending of conqueror of Shambala is bitter sweet
brother hood I Like how winry and Ed end up together and how ed gave up his alchemy to get his brother's body back
