He was my favourite of the kids and I was really sad that he was written out so early on. But I am so confused about what really happened to him and what exactly his role was supposed to be during the second half of the show.
Would be thankful if someone shares his opinion/ideas on this topic ^^

He and Saki were connected through their cantus but the village erased him out of everyone's memory because he was about to become a fiend, despite that Shun still continued give Saki hints. And at the end she finally remembers his name along with Satoru as well. There's really anything complicating about that so if you ask exactly what you couldn't understand I might be able to help.

At young age kids have their powers sealed by the elder and greatly diminished, because obviously, kids are stupid.
When Saki and Satorou were lost in the woods and at peril due to Mole Rate, Saki decided that she will unseal Satorou's power, so he could defend themselves. However, Saki saw unsealing ritual being performed like once and botched it.
Satorou's power was unsealed, the two made they way through the forest, but over time he started losing control over it, which eventually turned him into Karmic Demon.

1. Why was he becoming a Fiend? Is there like some kind of trigger because as a child he seemed like a smart and mature cantus prodigy but after the first Timeskip he became suddenly depressed and isolated for seemingly no reason

2. Was he killed by the elders or alive all the time and just had to leave the village because Saki encountered him (or his spiritual manifestation) in the forest and they talked with each other on several occasions

1. He became a Karmic Demon because group 1 grew up without the normal intervention from the Education Committee to suppress their memories as they grew up. Since their memories weren't suppressed, they remembered what happened during their summer camp trip, and the information that learned from the false minoshiro. Some members of the group had stronger mental integrity (Saki being the "strongest" mentally), and were able to deal with their trauma from the events that occurred, and the knowledge of the past, others didn't handle these things as well. When Saki goes to visit Shun once he's transformed, he explains to her that everyone in the village leaks power, which comes from their subconscious, and the spiritual barrier is meant to redirect that excess power outside of the town (which is why the animals are so weird outside of the barrier). Most of the children are unaware of the history of their society, or the secrets that are being kept in the village, and don't have deep rooted subconscious fears, or distrust of their society. Group 1 has this knowledge, and it created subconscious problems for Shun, so as his power leaked out, his negative subconscious thoughts became harder for him to control, and he began to leak more and more negative power, which eventually caused him to transform into a Karmic Demon. This is more likely to happen to children who are gentle and kind.

2. Shun's power killed him, and all memories of him and that region of the town were erased from the memories of the other children, as the Ethics Committee and Education Committees didn't want any of the children to develop further issues due to trauma and fear of another Karmic Demon appearing. The committee tried to kill him by giving him poison, but it didn't work, as his leaked power was altering the world around him at the molecular level (which is also why he couldn't be allowed to live, and why everything around him was so warped).
Saki continues to see Shun, but he is just a manifestation of her own subconscious. She is pretty much hallucinating him after his death, and he acts as her logical and perceptive guide when things start to get weird and she's taping into memories and information that has been stored and suppressed in her subconscious.

1. After Shun become a Karma Demon, he become even more powerful than before and Shun's power went out of control, cats were sent to kill him but he escaped but Saki did find him where he explained everything to her. As a result, Shun is killed by his own uncontrolled power.

2. Shun is definitely dead. The Shun that talked with Saki was just a part of her subconscious, I think.

I'm kinda surprised you and the guy above think the same thing that, that was not shun but just her subconscious self, you'll are probably right, but
Do you think that it's possible, that it was actually some part of his actual soul ,that resided there closely with her subconscious self, guiding her?(perhaps wishful thinking, but whatever)

If you want to interpret it like that that seems perfectly reasonable. Perhaps he became so powerful he found a way to transcend his physical death type deal right? Like Obi-Wan or something. Personally I think it was her subconscious too but whatever interpretation gives you the most personal satisfaction is the one you should go with I think.
