I'm a soon to be film student and recently have been doing a lot of looking into animated films. I've watched over 20 anime films and counting in the past month and a half and after watching them all, I have not seen a single one come close to being a better film than A Silent Voice. From an animated film standpoint, the tactics that are used play into the story so incredibly well that it keeps any viewer locked in. I spoke about this in another post but the
is one of the most interesting pieces that help with the story astronomically. They not only help with the understanding of Shoya's situation to the viewer, but also play into the story. That, in turn, makes the final scene of the film incredibly redeeming. There are so many other little things that they use that also do things like that, but I want to know what you think. The other one people talk about is Your Name and although I agree that Your Name is a fantastic film, I don't think it beats A Silent Voice in its storytelling or as a movie overall. Animation quality sure I'll give that to CoMix Wave but I think that A Silent Voice made the better movie overall.

I wouldn't say so, but it wouldn't bother me one bit if someone said it was; it's an excellent film.

afterall rom animes r not type
I don't like both hero and heroine
at first hero bullies heroine but heroine still wants to be friend with him
that doesn't seems real

Well the only reason she still wants to be friends is because she is deaf and doesn't understand that he is being mean to the degree that he was. Its probably even harder as a young kid like they show in the film compared to say a high schooler.

Of the many that people bring up (Your Name, Pancreas, Promised Flower Blooms), A Silent Voice is easily better than any i’ve ever seen, and imo the themes and symbols represented here as well as the character arc of Shouya (Shouko is another story), are unparalleled by anything else i’ve ever seen

I found Your Name fantastic but not at A Silent Voice's level, Pancreas I found to be significantly overrated. The story just wasn't that interesting and good at keeping me locked in. Maquia honestly is also a fantastic film but that ending definitely helped it out a bit. A Silent Voice still has my vote

Nah,the movie was really good and it got me into anime but there are better movies out there like Maquia(my opnion only).I liked the manga better as we could read the monologue of ishida nicely and the I legit felt emotions while reading the panels, part of the reason was that I related to ishida(though I never bullied anyone in my childhood). The ending scene's ost remains my fav and that scene was really impactful . Maquia was beautiful story that shows about the circle of life and how everyone find a path to move forward by finding their reason for living. It l felt really sad towards the ending but my heart was content with it as it showed that everything has an end. The change of the world can be seen thorough Maquia and the fact that she slowly ages makes us know that world is slowly changing while she remains the same.

It's a great movie but personally, it would not be in my Top 10 Anime films. Here are 10 that I would rank above it:

End of Evangelion
Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
Perfect Blue
Madoka Magica: Rebellion
Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul
Violet Evergarden Movie
Kara no Kyoukai Movie 5
Kara no Kyoukai Movie 7
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Night is Short, Walk on Girl

Though, all of these, with the exception of the last two, are part of bigger series (ie: Some are sequels to anime series, etc.) so I guess it is not a fair comparison.

I totally get you there. The ending to Maquia is one of the best I've seen but so is A Silent Voice. I have them both rated at a 10 on here but personally, I found A Silent Voices Juicy midlde of movie stuff to be a lot more interesting than Maquia's

Once you go through school you'll realize there is no "greatest anime film". When it comes to art an media, there is no such thing as "the greatest". It can be the "greatest" in your heart though.

yep,u can say that as we feel anxious about what is going to happen next in a silent voice ,how will ishida find his redemption?kyoni did a good job by adapting the impactful ch into a movie. The ost, characters are relatable and realistically written(meeting on the bridge felt only kinda unrealistic) but hey it is an anime. Both movies are fantastic .

Yea for sure. I know I mentioned it as greatest but that's more of like from what i've watched its the greatest. I think its impossible to rank things because its subjective either way but I love hearing what everyone has to say

It cannot be, not even close.

Heck, the main love interest didn't even have any personality other than being deaf and falling in love with the MC. It was a sweet film(except for the part where she kept blaming herself, with some sort of shitty anime female ego and logic).

Heart-wrenching? yes, especially the childhood parts, but it'll never be more than just cry porn.

I started reading the manga and am loving it so far. Definitely agree with you there. I said best of 21st century as more of a placeholder term for not only my favorite, but if i had to choose one to consider the best it would be mine. I'm loving everyone's opinions though.

Ya I’ve yet to watch one of these style movies where I enjoyed it the whole time. I recently watched Bubble and it was alright. I do like romance shows, but no movies have given me the same feel yet. If you know any movies as good as Golden time, Toradora, Angel Beats, or Kaguya I’d be happy to try them. Cause I loved those romance shows.

Nah, for me at least, this movie was mid at best (personally rated it a 6). The concept of the movie itself was okay, but it wasn't really anything special. A better contender in my opinion for that title would be Your Name (Kimi no Na wa). The gorgeous art, OST, and story all far surpass A Silent Voice.

A silent voice is my favorite anime movie. And if you haven't watched them yet, you should watch almost all studio ghibli movies. Also i recommend "puparia" it is a three minute masterpiece. If you are interested in all animations, not just anime, I suggest you watch "Brother Bear"

while A Silent Voice might not be the best when it comes to storytelling, this is indeed the best directed anime, every little detail from where the camera is and the microexpressions of the characters ultimately excite my director's brain.

in my honest opinion it's definitely the best anime movie out there and this is coming from someone who's been a cinephile for a long long time. I've watched 1000+ movies and this movie is definitely in my top 5 among movies in general (first will always be The Schindler's list 🤌).

People focus so much on the fact that they did not end up but I feel totally otherwise. More romance could've made it cringe. It's not a story about this guy falling in love with a girl, it's about falling in love with himself all over again. From my perspective it's the best anime film of all time.
