In This topic I would like to compare between the masterpiece BB vs the trash AoT I may reopen this topic in the anime topics when the anime finishes airing the fandom becomes more active once again, I feel that BB succeeds in everything AoT has failed in.

⛔⛔⛔✋Warrning Spoilers ahead for AoT manga and Breaking Bad. ✋⛔⛔⛔

Build up
In BB the story was preparing for Hank to discover the atrocities about his brother-in-law Walter while AoT was preparing for Eren to learn how he should trust in himself and decisions, while chasing Annie he chose to follow the orders of his comrades and leaders and that led to all his friends being killed by Annie Eren learned that his decision matters a lot, in S4 we can see him trusting in himself where he forces his friends to follow him and attack Libero and we can see him organizing a complete coup against the MPs talking over Paradise by himself, later in the final chapter it's revealed that all this is a facade and he was actually a slave to Ymir where he was following a predetermined path where he knows past, present and future till the moment of his death and the outcome of events in this world can't be changed no matter what choices and decisions he chose and he was following Ymir blindly regardless of the outcome he said he doesn't know why he did what he did and he doesn't know what will happen after his death ????

Duty over personal interests

In BB Hank was determined to arrest his brother-in-law to bring him to justice regardless of the family bond between them, despite his retirement, he didn't care how his nephew will react he didn't care whether he'll lose his job in the police department or what he was so focused on his duty and responsibility as a DEA agent
in AoT Eren spared the lives of his friends he gave up on his duty to protect paradise he stopped at 80% and left the remaining 20% to destroy Paradise later on and left the island in a losing battle against the world
Hank valued his duty as a DEA agent over his family, career and above anything else, while Eren valued his useless friends over his duty to the people of the island.

Condemning the main antagonist of the story

in BB Walter was condemned and hated by everyone in the story everyone hated him, his wife, son, sister and brother in laws and Jessie everyone told him to go to hell and die.
in AoT Eren was thanked and mourned by his fellow friends, the same people who tried to stop him 🤡🤡🤡🤡, why nobody knows ignoring the horrors and atrocities he committed to make matter worse Armin pretended to be the hero who killed him, so they publicly and proudly claim to be the hero who killed him while mourning Eren secretly 🤡🤡🤡🤡

Character Consequences
in BB every character face numerous consequences for their involvement in corruption, killings and crimes, most notably Todd
In AoT the warriors don't face consequences, all of the characters get away with what they did, more specifically Annie who killed half the Levi squad and Peak who participated in the massacre of Ragako village, Annie and Peak happily reunited with their fathers 🤡🤡🤡🤡

character conclusion

in BB Hank died a DEA agent true to his duty till death telling the corrupted drug dealers to go to hell
( My Name is ASAC Shrader)
in AoT the warriors lived as useless ambassadors with no real influence on the world affairs, described by Annie as Poor weak little things, not only that they lived under military supervision, to put that in mind in AnR ending if Eren completed the rumbling Eren would have returned to rule Paradise as its one true king and the warriors dying true to their principles of refusing genocide instead of living as a hypocrites or useless ambassadors.

Character development

Walter started as a lovely schoolteacher and ended up as a crazy drug dealer who's doing this for just entertainment.
in AoT Eren started as a person with strong sense of duty seeking to protect his people and avenge his mother to a useless simp who killed his mother he engaged his people in a losing battle against the entire world without even titan powers to protect them, he ignored the fate of the island and all he cared about is Mikasa not finding another man after his death 🤢🤮

Themes and overall message

BB has some clear themes, it's a case study that shows how the life of crime and corruption can impact one's life and endanger those who are close to him, I mean we can see how Walt's family was ruined gradually throughout the 5 seasons of the story, Flynn had to endure the family problems of his parents, Hank got killed, the relationship between Marie and Skyler has been severely damaged and scarred, Skyler was involved in an affair, Jessie is the same case because his criminal activities cost him all his girlfriends Jean and Andrea
In AoT the story is very contradictory nobody understands what the story is trying to tell take for a small example Gruger that tells Grisha to do his best to prevent history from repeating itself again while ending defenders justify the trash finale by stating that Yams tried to portray how history repeats itself 🤡🤡🤡🤡

Story conclusion

BB had a good conclusion with Walt's death it's tightly written from start to finish, each season introduces new things and themes and the series was getting better with each season with S5 being the best season, in AoT the rumbling Arc was weak boring and sometimes redundant to previous arcs, lastly the 8 extra pages prepares for a sequel this disgusting 🤢🤮 a sequel just confirms that Yams was pretty much forced by his editors to ruin his series that would shame ending defenders even more whom I won't be able to respect if that 💩 happens, the sequel is being denied right now but pretty much like many previous interviews and statements by Yams I won't be surprised if those current statements got retconned and a sequel was to be announced next year when the anime finishes airing.

lastly if we apply the same writing concepts of AoT ending to Gus' story, I believe that we would be slapped by contradictory and illogical events, like Gus giving the Hector the order to kill Max🤡🤡🤡🤡, and all his grief and desire for revenge were just a facade and lies, and he secretly was loyal to Don Eladio, and such illogical contradictory writing like that would suck horribly 🤢🤮

BB just clears AoT it succeeds where AoT fails and Hank is everything that Eren and Armin should have been, Eren should value his duty above his personal ego and kill his own friends for the sake of Paradise survival and Armin should be just like Hank punching Eren for his crimes instead he punches him for hearting Mikasa 🤡🤡🤡🤡

There is no excuse for 139 it's top tier trash specifically when BB exists.

I always see code geass fans talking shit about AoT. Anyway i read a little and it seems to be a good analysis nonetheless.

I think personally that CG is overrated the final scene I mean the final scene was unrealistic, what should have happened instead is that the world should have been thrown back to chaos this is demonstrated perfectly in Samuria Warriors 2 after Hydioshi's death still it's just one scene, the story is still filled with tragedies, politics and backstabbing.

AoT is better than Breaking Bad at its current place in the anime, but we'll see if that changes after the final part.

Breaking Bad's ending had some issues. It went WAY too easy on Walt, honestly in a way that mirrors how easy AoT went on Eren in the end. It's definitely better executed in Breaking Bad, but Walt's conclusion is way too forgiving considering how much of a piece of shit he was by then. I would say it dampens the impact of his character a bit. Eren deserves to be condemned much harder by the story than Walt, so it's a bigger problem in AoT, but the endings share similar issues in this respect.

Isayama flubbed some of the themes in the end, yes, but even with the ending, the themes in AoT are much more impactful and layered than Breaking Bad. AoT's themes regarding war, cycles of violence, discrimination, and its dealings with moral dilemmas were incredibly interesting and made really smart observations. The ending dampened their impact a bit, but most of it is still there. Breaking Bad makes points about how greed, regret, and envy can corrupt (and how that relates to family matters), how actions have consequences, and maybe some small points about the healthcare system in the US, but that's about it. It's not very interesting on a thematic level.

I would argue that the character study of Walter is about as good as it is for Eren, if not worse. Walter is a more consistently written and accessible character that makes analysis relatively easy. Eren is deeper, but less consistently written. Compare Walter to another live-action anti-hero like Tony Soprano. You can write a master's thesis analyzing Tony Soprano, and you can maybe write a standard high school 5 paragraph essay on Walter.

A lot of your points are fair but Breaking Bad is a flawed show too.

It went WAY too easy on Walt

Walter got the hardest punishment for a man who was about to die, his son hated him, his daughter will hate him when she grows up, he lost his own brother-in-law, his wife betrayed him, he was hated by everyone, his contributions to Gray Matter technologies were denied,

but even with the ending, the themes in AoT are much more impactful and layered than Breaking Bad.

the end contradicts all the previous scenes of the story starting with the death of Eren's mother, to Erwin's sacrifices that were in vain, no previous scene makes any sense after the ending or has a meaning in its own, also Eren and the alliance both of them forgave the other and ignored other's crimes out of nowhere that isn't war or racism that is joke, if you want to convey a story about war and racism then the conflicting parties one of them must emerge victorious and the other must surrender to the last or be completely annihilated by it, that doesn't happen in AoT 🤡🤡🤡🤡

in BB the author was trying to show how a life of crime and corruption can affect your personal lives and those who are close to you and to survive in such a world you have to be a man with no honor or principle, I mean Walter got his brother-in-law killed, he damaged his family, Jessie lost all of his girlfriends, and Mike couldn't protect his 9 men, got killed by Walt, and his daughter was hurt by his loss, he even didn't got a proper burial.

one more point about the Breaking Bad you said that Walt didn't get what he deserved, I believe this story lacks the element of religion the human can't have a full conscious without a religion.

Walt though that his life would end with his death so he saw he wouldn't lose anything with if he joined the life of crime while in religion bad people will live in an eternal hell.

Walt initially did what he did to help his family while in Islam for example those who will go to hell which if their children, their country and their people will be his ransom to save him from hell

in S1 Walter was discussing with Hank how illegal drugs and legal drugs are arbitrary and human laws change with time, but religion rituals at least for Islam don't change with time and all the drugs that cause the disfunction of the brain or harm to the human are completely prohibited forever in a book that can't be modified (Quran)

the BB lacks the religion element other than that it's a near perfect storytelling, some scenes could have been executed better like Gretchon and Elliot's last meeting with Walt in the final episode maybe Gretchon should have asked Walt why he didn't accept their job offer instead of dealing drugs some scenes could have been executed better maybe but BB still one of the best stories I've ever seen.

AoT on the other hand only glorifies hypocrisy with the Alliance mourning Eren secretly and claiming to be the hero who stopped him publicly 🤢🤮, and Eren's whole arc starting from his desire to avenge his mother was all but a big lie, AoT is one of the worst stories I've ever seen, considering how the story tried to condemn that with Historia when Eren told her he hated how she was putting on a facade pretending to be nice to everyone trying to appeal to everyone and he likes Historia the more honest girl, Yams did everything he said he wouldn't do.

Eren is deeper, but less consistently written.

Eren is a liar and a hypocrite who didn't accomplish a thing everything about him was a lie his mother's death, his character development, he at the end of the show is much worse than the beginning of the show,

Eren is just a puppet for Ymir following her blindly not knowing what will happen after his death and after he obeys her desires?????

how is that a good character ????

This is bad considering how Yams stated that you shouldn't make your characters lie in the story, lying means that the character changed his motive and a character should remain true to their resolve.
