Very disappointing romance... 2/10.
I was expecting far better from the creator of Taishou Otome Otogibanashi, so it's somewhat shocking that this manga only one month short of a year before TaiOtogi is so bad.
It's not exactly surprising considering a lot of Mangaka or creators overall oddly fail to create consistent (at least) adequate work with some that are awful.
It's a shame that this story fell into a failure.
The premise of a male oni falling in love with his forcefully wed wife (which she warmly accepts to save her people) and for her to be reincarnated 1000 years later (through one half of his horns) after she dies from sickness, as he was trapped in a rock is interesting.
As her reincarnated self doesn't embody her past self while she forcefully rejects his advances while he promises to make her fall for and wed him again, I expected a romance of growth where she slowly cracks to his love with her past self partially or fully coming back, and for him to reflect on his dark past of hurting humans out of spite from their hate as he was misunderstood.
Unfortunately it's a poorly formed romcom.
With awful characters and plots. She's a childish mid-teen who occassionally hits him to distance him from his overly legitimately familiar advances as they were a flirty married couple.
Then, it only gets worse when each new male character appears;
Usawaka, the jealous companion friend of Shiru who wants to kill Shizuko out of hate for turning Shiru into a non-violent oni.
Aoi, the vampire fanboy who loves Shizuko. And Setsuna, the Show-woman brat boy who attempts to marry Shizuko so he doesn't get scolded for burning a statue in his village.
Usawaka randomly forgets about his hate to kill her, and Aoi as a fan attempts to make her become his girlfriend, both loving her.
In valentine's, both fools attempt to date and win her over instead of having Shiru kill Aoi when they were about to fight- thanks to her grandpa's resolution... and in the end, a year after Shizuko is lonely without Shiru after he became a god (from worship) the supposed fanboy of Shiru/Usawaka/Shizuko has the audacidity to still love and ask her out.
Worse is when she's about to accept out of hopeless acceptance which is uncharacteristic of her- until Shiru comes down and stops being a God to take her back.
Then they officially marry and have sex which turns him human and removes his horn out of her, but nonetheless, it's all fucking terrible.
His adoration for her is sweet, but unfortunately the characters meddling to steal her and the plots are shit. |
