What will they cover in the movie?

So a movie has been confirmed and now I am wondering what exactly will be covered in the movie.

Like a confession or will they already treat us to some adult Nishikata and Takagi moments? What do you guys think/hope?

Apparently they haven’t gotten there in manga yet so I’m actually hoping its mostly anime original.

I am pretty sure it's going to be anime original ending, even the ending of last episode was Anime Original and with the debut of Chi in one of the episodes in this season the ending of Takagai and Nishkata's middle school story seems more probable.

I think that they'll talk about their future, since this is their last middle school summer.
They'll probably go on a trip and maybe show their last school days.
In the trailer she says "We'll always be happy, won't we?" and that's why I think that maybe, they'll be going to different high schools or something like that.
Hopefully we'll get a confession and maybe a season of the spin-off.
Honestly I don't think that they should make more seasons with them just being "friends", and that's not because I don't like them this way, I love them but it would be kinda weird after this last episode.
I mean, Nishikata realized that she likes him, it's time he confesses already!

Season three roughly covers volumes 11 through 14 of the manga, or about 40 chapters. Note, I say roughly because the manga chapters are not in chronological order. It's a monthly manga that tries to keep up with the seasons, so there are valentine's day, Christmas, summer, etc. chapters every year. Since the anime does try to reorder events chronologically, it jumps around to different chapters in the manga across all 3 seasons.

But, like I said, season 3 roughly covers 40 chapters, and the other two seasons roughly covered the same amount of material. Season 3 takes us up to ch. 123. There are currently 158 chapters. This means there will technically be enough material for a forth season in a few months.

That being said, I think the movie is going to end the series. It's going to be anime original and it takes place in the summer of their 3rd year. They are still 2nd years in the manga, so that's quite a skip.

On top of that they are out of material from Tomorrow is Saturday (the spin-off starring Yukari, Sanae, and Mina) and it doesn't look like they plan on adapting Yukari is in Love with Love (the other spin-off starring those three).

I do think that there will be an OVA for season 3. I don't remember the apple game being covered this season, but seeing as it was featured in the OP, I kind of expect to see an episode on it. Though they could be saving it for the movie, given its recurrence in the sequel manga, when they're all adults.

I'm expecting the movie to cover a few more chapters of the manga before moving on to the original story element, and then ending with a scene with Takagi and Nishikata as adults.

One last note, I have high expectations for the movie, since this is one of the few shows where I can say the anime is better than the manga. Not that the manga is bad, but for those that do not know, the manga tries to maintain the status quo. There is very little romantic progression in the manga, and most of the bigger moments that move their relationship forward in the anime are actually anime original (camping trip, summer festival, school festival, movie date, season 3 ending etc.). So I am looking forward to see what the writers come up with to cap the series.

There are plenty of very nice chapters lately in the manga. Would be nice to have them adapted as a 4th season even though the film takes place later on.
