The main reason why not many people criticizing these show is because these genre mostly only attracts people that actually seeks out these kind of shows from the first place, people that claimed an iyashikei is boring with no actual plot totally missed the whole point of the genre (and most likely never watched one before), it's like complaining a hentai has too many nudity. That being said not all iyashikei works the same magic to everyone, but just like porn fetish, people just move on from the type of content they didn't find interesting. Don't like fishing anime? try these cute girls runs a cafe, don't like that one too? how about these girls living in the countryside.

Most people seeking iyashikei doesn't have any particular expectations of the show they're going to watch, there is no standard format of the genre, it is a formless show that put more emphasis on the characters itself than the plot.

It's like an aquarium you watched all day, or animals at zoo exhibits, where people just watched them and wondered what would they do next in that small cloistered, safe environment. It's not a circus.
