im 15 rn and this sounds very interesting to me, a manga depicting life and all the sorrow and feelings and experiences that comes with it, a deep dive into the philosophy and psychology of humans. it just sounds amazing. but from what I've heard its extremely dark and is just something someone would appreciate when older, im anyway not planning on reading it rn but i was wondering around what age is recommended to read it?

I was 14 when I read it, nearly destroyed me. Even I would recommend Oyasumi Punpun to a person who is 18 plus. The reason is, it hits home, it really does. You might probably not be able handle it. I have been consuming mature media since a really young age, so most of it hit me like a truck and didn't come off as "edgy" or "unrealistic".

I said this in another thread.

Punpun really hits when you yourself have dealt with feelings of self hatred, excessive guilt, not being able to achieve your dreams etc. When you have nothing to relate in the series, it just becomes another piece of media.
People who call Punpun a masterpiece have dealt with at least one of the problems Punpun or other side characters deal with throughout the manga. They call it a masterpiece because of how painfully accurate it is in depicting what they went through/are going through. Therefore it is always recommended to read when you are in a good state of mind, because it will fuck you up, if you have something to relate in the series that is.

Probs 16+ a younger person might not understand and relate with a lot of the dark themes in the manga and could be surprised and disturbed abt a lot of the things that happen it definitely would be better to wait till your a bit older to read such a mature manga because it really does make it better if u yourself have lived long enough to experience a lot of hardships In life

Depends on you and how much can you take such things. I've seen worst shit than this when I was 15.

I read it at age 17 and it still fucked me up (and this is coming from someone who read Berserk at age 15).
Some of you never watched Bakugan Battle Brawlers on TeleToon in 2008 and it shows.

Go for it if you're really curious. Just try not to relate too much.

The Answer is never and if you really wanna read it then read it when you are happiest or normal so you can cope up with the amount of painful BS this Manga carries, honestly last 20 chapters are constant fucking jabs and at one point my heart sank so yeah i am not really gonna recommend if you have mental issues.
2023 might be the year where I will be happy. This year is not happy year.

Honestly, I want to say 18+ because of some of its content but if you decide to read it before then, do so when in a good state of mind. I can imagine that this manga might be more difficult to read for people who might have gone through similar situations and such. I'm sure if I'd read this at age 15 I would have felt a lot different than I do now. Yes, I do relate to some of the characters in their views or experiences, but not on a deeper level like some of the other readers here.

so i started reading at 15 and never finished even though i LOVED stuff that was super intense and depressing, i just wasnt a big reader yet at that time. i do have to say though, theres a lot of nuance that clicks a lot easier as a 23 year old even though i had gone through so many similar experiences when i was young. so id say, if you love the depressing/deep kinda vibe feel free to read it, then you can reread it at a later age. if not then feel free to read it when that sort of content does start to click for you or just when ur older in general!!

Compared to his other series, it's got a pretty preachy attitude. So if you don't feel easily offended by that, start whenever. Not his best work, but worth checking out what all the buzz was for years ago. -g-

MAL is far from being my primary site for literature, which is why I’ve stopped doing single-chapter updates. Baka-Updates and two French sites are far superior—more detailed, complete, and less restrictive. They're perfect for manga, light novel, and book collectors like me, making the process much less stressful and tiring. -g-
