so i watched the first episode of saiyuuki reload blast when it aired. but realized it was a sequel and was wondering where do i start to watch it so i know the gist of what i need to know?

I haven't watched the show, but according to MAL's prequel and sequel section, the watch order is as follows.

● Side Story 1 Sequel → Gensoumaden Saiyuuki: Kibou no Zaika (2002)
● Side Story 2 → Gensoumaden Saiyuuki OVA (1999)

should almost always recommend to watch a show in the order it's released, not the chronological order of a show. in Saiyuki's case, there are a few elements that are more impactful when they aren't given away immediately

i have watched Saiyuki. i would recommend skipping Saiyuki Gaiden completely. start by watching the other five "Main" series in their release order. and also watch Saiyuki Reload Zeroin (calling it an "alternate" version is misleading. it's the actual manga canon ending of that particular story arc. think FMA and FMA Brotherhood)
