I just finished this season and she seems to try so hard to be "adult". Why does she do this?

I thought it was chuunibyou( 7 grade syndrome ) basically a chringe character that either clutches on to child hood or tries to act mature drinking black coffee is trope in anime

Because Natsumi makes fun of her and disrespects her most of the time, so she tries to act grown up so Natsumi would look up to her and respect her.

she gets treated like a child all the time even though she’s the oldest in the group and so she wants to be able to actually act like the oldest in the group

I think it's the dichotomy of her character, she's a cute little thing who wants to be a grown woman. She's Hotaru's obsession for how small, sweet and cute she is but she just wants to be big
