To begin im not saying the arc is bad but rather that its not that good as the other arcs in the series but to begin its best to go over my opinions on the other arcs and why I thought they were great Hunter x Hunter Arcs

for reasons im not typing the election arc because my hands hurt from typing sorry but for clarification the election arc is my favorite I love the Nanika and Killua factor and the Zoldyck politics resurfacing as foreshadow from the prevous Zoldyck Arc and this arc introduces the Zodiacs including Pariston
, Ging
and Cheadle

The ending of this arc is emotional and touching with Ging being handed his Hunter License and the mantra of the series being revealed that kinda encapsulates the show being enjoy the detours in life since youll get more out of it than just your initial goals in life great final arc to end the animated series

I agree, it's not the best. The best is the Hunter Exam arc, in the 1999 version of the series.

I agree. I don't dislike the Chimera Ant arc but I think it is the worst arc in HxH. I felt it was quite boring and I just didn't really like any of the characters. mereum was well written but I disliked him as well. greed island was by far the best arc imo. The most enjoyable and the best list of characters

for me it's between the York New arc and Chimera ant Arc.

the chimera ant arc is extremely long and can seem boring but I really like the characters we were introduced to, like Mereum or Pitou.

York New arc was really good, especially because we got to see the Phantom Troupe more. and even better it was basically a Kurapika arc.

I thought the leading up to the Big battle episodes were interesting and good, but once we got to the battles, they all just fell flat, took way to long and by the end of the Arc all of the Chimera Nats that were left became annoying and shells of the characters we were introduced to. Also a lot was at stake in this Arc yet pretty much everyone made it out unscathed, and that annoyed me as well. My favourite Arc is the York New City arc and the Chimera Ant arc would be my least favourite. It's not so bad that it ruins the standing of the show, but every anime has a so/so arc and this is it for HxH.

I disagree. It’s easily the best arc in the show in basically every way. Meruem was the best antagonist in the show, Gon and Netero’s characters were done really well, and it had great themes

Netero and Meruem were good for me especially netero but Gons arc had no presence with me since I wasn't invested in Kite at all so when he dies and Gon slowly deeps off the deep end I could not really care less and then he's brought back its such a weird choice from a writing perspective and the character himself is just not that interesting on his own terms and probably should have stayed dead

I just dont liek going through 45 episodes only to enjoy the last 15 the arc is very contrasting to the series which up until know has been well lengthen and self contained arcs which have been foreshadowed and built up to while the chimera ant arc comes literally out of nowhere im not saying this makes it bad it just feels disruptive of the flow of the series a bit the arc is all in all good its just not the best at all to me I just have the least fun rewatching it out of all arcs l

at least to me have your own opinion people would be boring otherwise

It's not a hot take at all by the way. This arc is heavily controversed. Some people loved it other people hated it.

As for me I hated it for 3 main reasons:
1. The narrator
2. They overdid the characters development to the point it's just completely ridiculous (meaning cringe-worthy)
3. Dragged up just to end on an unsatisfying, anticlimatic finale.

There's more things that I hated, but it's essentially that.

Also, Meruem is such a boring and uninteresting villain.

Chimera Ant arc isn’t my favorite HxH arc, but I can see why people like it so much. This arc contains plenty of amazing actions scenes, and it also showed deeper development for both Gon and Killua. My personal favorite is the Yorknew City arc because the Phantom Troupe were intriguing as villains, plus it also emphasizes a lot more on Kurapika’s development.

Chimera Ant arc also has an intriguing main antagonist (Meruem), but this arc felt too stretched out for me when the plot could’ve been condensed into fewer episodes. The narrations also ruined a lot of the action scenes for me. I don’t see the point of the narrations when I can already see everything going on. Show, not tell.

I also don’t get why Gon is overly attached to Kite. I would’ve understand if Kite’s relationship with Gon was similar to that of Killua’s. Overall, I don’t think it’s a bad arc. In fact, it’s actually a really good one. But I won’t consider it as the best anime arc as people claim it to be. Honestly, I think it could’ve been better if it had a faster pacing.

I agree. I really enjoyed the York New arc the most, but I’ll admit I’m biased because I absolutely love villain groups like the phantom troupe.

That being said, it really got straight to the action and stayed interesting the whole time. Chimera Ant was still good too, but like others have said, some points felt a little dragged out to me.

I wonder if Togashi was experimenting in order to switch up the pattern of the arcs in order to keep the series fresh I get it but I don't think that it trumps all other arcs and I think it was because the arc was very different from others that Togashi may have had some difficulty writing it

Gons attachment to kite felt forced Killua out of the two is the highlight when it comes to interest and what kept me interested in the two of them

I agree that the Chimera Ant has the highest moments in the series but as an overall arc I think it has many flaws that couldn't be avoided but that being said I'm glad togashi still went through with this arc since its given him the much needed experience to write longer arcs like the current one in the manga

also Greed Island is really underrated considering it has one of the coolest settings in HxH I think this is due to the lack of dominating villains and the more laid back plot than what occurs after the very intense York New City Arc it has a really cool premise to it along with an intriguing new development of strategy and tactics around gathering/collecting a limited amount cards that factor game mechanics such as the previously mentioned card limit and using loopholes to sneak cards past the rules of the game

Having just finished the anime, I can say it was my least favorite arc by far. Between the arc taking up an exceding amount of episodes to get through, not caring about any of the ant characters whatsoever, and the narrator basically explaining what everyone was having for breakfast, I had to take multiple breaks throughout the arc so I wouldn't lose my sanity. Killua and Gon kept me going and some of the fights were really good, that's it.

Chimera ant arc might be the critically best arc but it was kind of a drag sometimes with tons of narration. Yorknew city was my favourite. And killua's little arc after chimera ant was something I enjoyed more.

The Chimera ant is overrated according to me.I found yorknew arc and greed island arc much more interesting and fun.I am not saying the arc is bad. This is my opinion but I thought the narration(I think this is the term) in the Netero and Meruem fight made it annoying. There were other irritating part such as
1.Sharapouf and menthumenthuyoupi constantly crying in front of Meruem(Unwavering Loyality Ig)
2.And the cause of death of Meruem, youpi and pouf

I didn't really understand how their deaths were caused so can please someone tell me?

I agree. The chimera Ant takes too long to really get to the point and boring battles makes it really hard to watch sometimes and it’s really long. The longest arc in the series. My Favourite was the Yorknew City arc. This was a masterpiece for me and and from the very moment the troupe came in i was reeled in. The spiders are better Villains than the ants and Personally Chrollo is my favourite character in the whole series. The chimera ant isn’t bad tho it’s probably second for me. It has its moments...

The bomb that Netero detonated wasn't just a bomb, it had lethal poison as well. And whoever got close to the person poisoned for a long enough amount of time would get second-hand poison and die too. Hence why the King, Pouf, Youpi + Komugi died.

Finally meet my people, i was tired to rant with other hunter x hunter fans on how this arc is boring, is my least favorite arc on the series ans IS EVEN WORSE ON THE MANGA, since the anime save it a little with the ost

Meruem is not that good villian as many people claim, is simple not, they claim he became humanlike and i laugh a lot since in the manga just before he went to fight netero he mention that he will treat human with respect in the HUMAN FARMS hahahahahahahahahahahahah why people forget that ?

Oh the narrator is the worse part in the anime and in the manga, in the manga were blocks and blocks on text about nothing that i easy skip but in the anime i was force to listen, and is unnecesary long for whatever

I can tell the good things tho, that chnage in gon persona was nice to watch, and killua personality as well, but the rest was sooooo, i diklike most of the antagonist since found their desing childsih , i only liked the octopus hahaha

And the way they end the arc was so anticlimatic... sorry not sorry but i sight.

I enjoy the rest of the show tho... ALL but chimerw arc, and my favorite is yorknew city arc

I’m neutral because it definitely wasn’t my favorite but the villains and the whole Netero thing was sick. Not to mention I really liked watching Komugi and Meruem, I feel like it’s a common shounen trope to have an all powerful villain to have his weaknesses exploited, but HxH did it in a really unique way

I'd say Chimera ant arc is a hit or miss tho it's my most favorite arc in the entire series next to Yorknew, had no issues with it except for the Palace invasion which my issues are just purely subjective and doesn't rlly affected my overall enjoyment in the arc significantly. I agree that the palace invasion part of the arc is boring but not entirely imo. I thought the arc being slow is fine but the thing that bored me in the arc is that they build up a hype then they'll also lose it later on like for example, Palace invasion starts off with Netero and Zeno skydiving, I genuinely got very hyped and was so fascinated on what they'll do next but after the ep, the show focused more with the gang (Gon, Killua, Morel, others) infiltrating the palace especially with Knuckle and his partner fighting Youpi and in like 6+ eps straight which loses the hype I got earlier and slowly getting bored because I cared way more on what Netero and Zeno's gonna do than Knuckle and his partner fighting Youpi then there's also this Ikalgo's part in the arc which is the most boring part not just in the arc but in the entire series aswell. Regardless of my issues in the entire arc, the arc was still incredible and provided some of the best moments, developments, ending/payoff and other things, making it the reason as to why it's my most favorite arc in all anime.

The Chimera Ant Arc had some great moments but it was very slow. It was basically moving at 1 frame per second and there is literally a video showing everything moving in real-time without the narration and the character's inner thoughts.

2nd half of Chimera Ant arc (starting around episode 110) is the only reason I don't give this show a 5/10 or 6/10. Your points made me even more confident about it. For a show that is know as a "shounen for adults" and a lot of reviews say to newcomers to not judge by its cover, pretty much all of the other arcs are just your regular shounen arcs, but even more childish.

2nd half of Chimera Ant has actual elements of quality, like stakes, character progression with use of suffering, a non unidimensional villain and a really satisfying conclusion. The slow progression and the narrator moments the story since it actually was important to understand not only some of the strategies, but some of the motional weights some scenes had, which is much better than the other arcs wasting it's time with being nen exposition and dreadful childish dialogue. Yorknew is the only one who isn't in this category, but it's not good enough. I feel most of the praise this arc receives is due how average the previous arcs are, because Yorknew is a 8/10 at best.

If I had to say my hot take is that even Sword Art Online and Fairy Tail are easily better than Hunter x Hunter if it wasn't for this specific part of the story. SAO at least give some entertainment with its action and Fairy Tail has better emotional moments overall, even with not killing its characters.

Personally, I enjoyed the Hunter Exam Arc most.
There's still a lot of open questions and we get to see first glimpses into these characters' motivations and personalities. There are a few darker themes (e.g. the concerning non-existence of child protective services + Killuas unresolved trauma, Kurapika's clan having been killed, etc.), but none of them is explored deeper at this point, the focus lies within establishing relationships. This is only my personal bias because I really enjoy Killua and Gons friendship.

The Chimera Ant Arc has a very different feel, mainly achieved through more third-person narration and implied/barely visible gore.
I feel as though it is detrimental to character development, but some of the characters we get to see seem very surface-level and not as fleshed-out (feel like this is the anime's fault though, but I can't say for sure since I haven't read the manga). Palm seems like a good example of this. I really enjoy her character concept, but we didn't get into it as deep as I would want it to. What the Arc provided me with what the other arcs couldn't recreate was this constant tension, fear and excitement of what would happen next. It made me forget that Gon and Killua were the main characters, protected by any plot armour that was expendable, and got me actually worried for their lives. Also, the last episode with Meruem and Kogumi destroyed me more than the invalidation I faced when talking to my father about my suicide thoughts. They really hadn't to do that. The voice acting was amazing, the absence of animation made the last scene shine so much more. The Chimera Ant Arc might be my favourite if I were looking for excitement and worry rather than happiness in the media I consume, but because I use it as avoidance of my problems, I enjoy the more wholesome arcs a lot more. The musical score was... fine, I guess. It wasn't as infuriating as having to listen to the Zoldyck family theme, constantly being reminded of "Dance of the Knights" by Prokofiev. The OP didn't hit as hard musically, but the actual meaning of the words made me cry more than the schoolwork I chose to ignore by watching Hunter X Hunter. Another problem is that I couldn't take Adult Gon seriously, it just made me laugh. The character design just didn't do it for me. The absence of Hisoka and Illumi was nice though. I almost forgot to talk about Netero. That dude has a big dick, I just know it.
Concluding, while the Chimera Ant Arc isn't the best, I definitely do think it is very impactful (though I haven't continued reading the manga, I do hope that this arc doesn't just get glossed over, even though it feels like exactly that'll happen).

The 2011 version ruined Kite's entry. He was actually introduced in the first chapter canonically of Hunter X Hunter. If you watch the first episode of the older anime, you can see that Kite was basically Gon's inspiration to become a hunter. I felt the same way about Kite as you did initially but upon learning this fact, it definitely felt less forced. Personally, I feel from a writing and narrative standpoint, Chimera Ant is the best but personally Yorknew is my favourite due to my enjoyment during that arc.

I think the biggest problem of the arc is pacing. Some episodes should have adapted a lot more manga chapters especially during the palace invasion (some episodes were literally in slow-motion) and a lot of Narrator lines could have been cut because they don't work that well in anime medium. If Madhouse handled the pacing better i wouldn't hesitate to call this the best arc since the ending is amazing and fights really well thought-out, but i gets so slow that at moments i feel like if i had the oppurtunity i would choke the narrator to death. Someone should really give this arc the one pace edit treatment to make it more enjoyable.
