| So I recently began watching 5ds after finishing gx and I like it so far. I also liked the opening so much that I was just watching it today paying attention to little details when I noticed that at the 0:27 mark there is a 2021 sign seen in reverse on a spinning advertisement. In fact you don't even have to play the video since it's seen in the thumbnail written in pink. If you flip the screenshot horizontally you can see its clearly 2021. I thought it was crazy that I happened to notice it just now coming into the new year. |

| Canon-wise, 5D's supposedly takes place in 2021. There are several visual clues throughout the show and in other OP/ED that support this, though they never stated it out loud iirc. |

Since making this post I have witnessed the 2021 in the third opening as well. However from some things I've read its unclear if 5ds really takes place in 2021 and some factors indicate otherwise (people have calculated a bunch of stuff based on gx timeline, Ushio's age (the police man who was also in duel monsters) and more) but nothing is for sure I guess. Anyway I think its interesting seeing 2021 as a sign in the series wondering if there is something else its indicating. |

Supposedly, GX is 6 years after DM (don't remember where I read that.... someone did math using screenshots too lol I think the end of GX was in 2006)(scrap whatever dub says) Considering Ushio, I think I initially thought 5D's was maybe ~10 years after GX? But if it's 2021, that would make it ~15 years later. That's not bad, for where it'd put their ages. I'll shoot. The manga dates place DM differently but, going off anime only, my guess is (roughly): start of GX (2004): Yugi (20-22), Jyudai (15-16), Yusei (1) end of GX (2006): Yugi (22-24), Jyudai (17-18), Yusei (3) start of 5D's (2021): Yugi (37-39), Jyudai (32-33), Yusei (18) Someone could definitely check me. Good catch! edit: in ep156 of GX it shows his entrance year in passing. Don't remember where the graduation one is, but in the same scene, if you follow Ryo's dates, it suggests they're only there for 3 years |

However upon digging the issue here are some posts from others who talked about it: So biggest argument against 5ds taking place in 2021 seems to be that zero reverse would have taken place in 2004 which seems odd considering domino city was still alright in gx unless domino and neo domino city are different cities altogether but what about Ushio though did he move to neo domino at some point or what? |
