I don't really understand the difference between these two. Is Rebuild just a reboot following the exact same story portrayed in a different way? or is it a completely different story with the same plot but different actions.

1.0 is practically just a pure carbon copy of the first 6 or so episodes in the original. The first half of 2.0 has similar story beats but played out in a different way, the second half is completely new and unique. 3.0 is 100% different from the tv series.

I’d watch them all if you want to watch the rebuilds but you could potentially skip out on 1.0 as it’s very similar to NGE up until the sniper part.

[forgive if if bad english]

the actual Neon Genesis Evangalion stops in the third attack a.k.a third impact. Shinji asks Rei to stop the third impact in the movie ( the end of evangalion ) and that is where the movie ends.

The remake of the evangalion that is partly made of CG shows what would actually happen if the third impact was accomplished. the accomplishment is still on going as the 4th movie is still in progress.

1.0 is just retelling first six episodes of 1995 Eva anime.
2.0 is same as 1995 Eva anime where Asuka joins the party. But it has different settings than the original anime.
3.0 is Eva rebuild's own story.

Just watch the original plot (NGE) and the final movie (EOE) and you're done. Don't any of the rebuilds lol.

we still don't know if the rebuilds are sequels or actual rebuilds, only the 4th movie will tell us the answer

They start out similar and diverge greatly by the second film.

What I'm getting from this topic is that these movies aren't worth it if I don't like episodes 1-6 of the TV anime.

No, that's only for the 1st Rebuild movie, which covers those episodes. And even then, i would argue the movie version greatly improved certain scenes over the original, like the Ramiel confrontation.

From the 2nd movie onwards, it starts turning into a completely different story.

What? no the third impact clearly happens in the end of Evangelion, the movie doesn't just end with shinji asking Rei to stop it it ends with shinji and asuka on the beach after having both experienced the third impact and rejected instrumentality.

I know you're asking is it the same but no it isnt, the art style improves as well. Eva 1.0 is basically the first 6 episodes of eva ( with different events ) I believe. Then after that 2.0 and 3.0 are a completely dif storys. IMO rebuilds > original eva

Rebuild movies are garbage.
They changed pilot personalities. Also, they added a new pilot why?

IIRC the original series and the Rebuild are connected through the manga, so I'd say the Rebuild is sort of a continuation of the original series

It's a pain in the ass to write why they are different. It would take me too much time.
There's are review https://myanimelist.net/reviews.php?id=35878. It's not perfect, but it will do.
But I will give one example about Asuka in the Evangelion 2.0 movie Asuka has a doll why? In the original Evangelion Asuka got traumas about dolls because of her mother.

But the events of the 2nd movie follow those of the 1st. I wouldn't recommend The Two Towers to someone who dislikes The Fellowship of the Ring. I wouldn't recommend Catching Fire to someone who dislikes The Hunger Games. I'll just be wasting my money if I watch a sequel to something I don't like.

It's different if Rebuild 1 is better than the TV anime, as you say it is. I'll have to try at least the 1st movie before dismissing the Rebuilds as a whole.

the rebuilds are are in some ways a reboot, in others a sort of pseudo-sequel.

1.0 is basically the same thing as the first arc of NGE, like almost shot-for-shot.
2.0 is kinda the same as the middle of eva... but it ends much differently. its extremely mediocre and feels like a cash grab (1.0 too)
3.0 is the only rebuild i like. i thought it felt much more like the latter half of the original series, which is what made me love NGE in the first place. it's still not perfect, though.

you don't really need to watch the rebuilds, if you're gonna watch eva i'd just stick to the original + EOE, and watch rebuilds if you want more.
