Is that the release date? I don't think so.

2022 is the year where SAO releases in the anime. The anime itself may air in 2021?

They'll need "two years worth of courage" to animate Cringe Art Online (Alicization arc was decent only because Kirito was in coma for most of the time), especially chapter 16.5 ;D
Now without jokes, 2022 is the an in-universe date, unless creators are self-absorbed enough to think that a new additon to SAO will be groundbreaking.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a dumb comment as this in a long time, it looks like a child wrote that

Care to bring something of substance to your critique?

Forum is not only for fans to fawn over their favourite title. If you exclude Kirito then SAO has its good elements but as it stand now (I'm anime only) the entire anime part of the franchise is being dragged down by the local Garry Stu who for no good reason becomes powerhouse in every world seed he visits. It irks me because .hack, Avalon and other titles have shown that virtual realities are perfect for interesting backdrops but SAO wastes it's potential by the MC who seemingly was created only to be a vessel on which author/readers/watchers may imprint themselves on, as I wrote in my original post Alicization parts where Kirito was kept out of the picture were the most interesting to me.

What is this exactly? A reboot or a new take on the same thing?

The later. Apparently it's focused on Asuna going up the floors and shit.

It's a retelling of the Aincrad arc going floor by floor instead of the huge time gaps like 1 to 20 and then to 50. So it'll explore the world of Aincrad along with Kirito and Asuna.
