| Tooru is clearly in love with Kobayashi. If I remember correctly, in almost every episode it is showed that she loves her. Also, I know its not a romance anime but, romance and shoujo ai are different things. Some series (Such as Yuru Yuri and Konohana Kitan) have shoujo ai in the genres without romance. |
| Maybe because the yuri in this one isn't canonical and kyoani is popular for queerbaiting in their shows (I haven't read it's manga so I don't know if it is canonical or not). Also kyoani rarely touches a niche. |

| I just finished the first season ready for the second one and I was wondering this. Not that tags matter that much but I was curious. If the likes of yuru yuri for example have shouji ai as a tag so should this. Really excited for season 2. |
| It's not tagged as a Shoujo ai because there's no romantic plot in the show. Tohru loves Kobayashi but the show isn't about their love. |
| Because Kobayashi does not reciprocate Tohru's advances. Saikawa/Kanna is more mutual but could be interpreted as a weird friendship. Dunno if the manga makes things more explicit. |
| nm, there's that part where Saikawa says she likes Kanna she wants to get closer and would love to marry Kanna, and Kanna pushes her down and gets on top of her and says, "let's be even closer, ok?" and Kanna flushed says, "wait, I need to prepare my heart", and Kanna says "Saikawa..." Yeah, there's no straight explanation for what just happened there. |
| Because Tohru does not love women in general, but only Kobayashi as an individual regardless of her gender. Notice, how in 2nd season when Ilulu briefly turned Kobayashi into a biological male, Tohru was all raring to go and almost reyped her. Also, Kobayashi does not reciprocate Tohru's romantic feelings and sees her as a family member. |
