Anime Guild's Spring 2019 Toriyama Power Ranking Committee Part 1 of 4 Heh, time to turn my thinking cap on! Spring sign-up sheet for anyone in need of a refresher Hello and welcome to the season of falling sakura petals! Today I've decided to be helpful and make a semi-useful attempt at navigating this page beyond just the rank numbers. Right below this intro is points assignments, so you can see how we assign points to each rank people submit. There are comment sections for each entry if you're interested in finding out what other people thought of the shows. Open at your own risk! For there may be minor spoilers (if you mind that sort of thing). If you're interested in checking out a series that you might not have thought about doing before, the images are links to their respective MAL pages. So if any of you in Toriyama class are interested in submitting comments for the next hand in (even if it's just some joke you want to make about one particular series), this is your random reminder for that too! Finally, this is a shoutout to Selinea, goddess of essays! Err... what I actually wanted to say was that I've truncated her comments to high heaven under the shows so if you want to check out the un-Akufied comments, they are 100% intact under her individual spoilers! Or y'know... maybe you're not a comment once every month kinda person and you wanna just discuss seasonals in an actual discussion. Next PRC hand-in for all classes is on 21st May! 1 - 71.50 2 - 65.75 3 - 60.25 4 - 55.00 5 - 50.00 6 - 45.25 7 - 40.75 8 - 36.50 9 - 32.50 10 - 28.75 11 - 25.25 12 - 22.00 13 - 19.00 14 - 16.25 15 - 13.75 16 - 11.50 17 - 9.50 18 - 7.75 19 - 6.25 20 - 5.00 Directory Other Classes Spring Togashi Power Rankings 1 Spring Oda Power Rankings 1 Spring Character Power Rankings 1 Spring Toriyama Power Rankings 2 Spring Toriyama Power Rankings 3 Spring Toriyama Power Rankings 4 Winter 2019 Fall 2018 Summer 2018 Oda Spring 2018 Spring 2018 pt 1 Winter 2018 Fall 2017 Summer 2017 Spring 2017 Winter 2017 Fall 2016 Summer 2016 Spring 2016 Winter 2016 Fall 2015 (OG) Let's hop to it! 1. Carole & Tuesday (989 Points) ![]() BlueSkylark: 1 Schizoidmouse: 1 Selinea: 1 Alicador: 1 Jokobo: 2 LolImMatt: 2 Poetication: 2 Alicia1020: 2 vladkob: 2 Shuuka: 3 Akuma-chi: 3 Yasaal: 4 MisaoAino: 4 DrainZ: 6 Epic_Unicorns: 7 Ericonator: 9 Zerity: 11 Jokobo “This high place is a bit exaggerated, but I gave Carole and Tuesday the credit of trust, cause they have kinda slow start and I can't estimate the plot premise. Music is beautiful tho.” Yasaal “There's far better Watanabe anime than this so I'm not going crazy over this, but really good show either way.” BlueSkylark “Hands down the best show of the season without even a contest. Production value is through the roof, character have amazing synergy and feel authentic, rather then the sum of their tropes. And I love the message the show carries.” MisaoAino “Wonderful voices. I am surprised and pleased. These girls make a really good duo. Mamo#2” Schizoidmouse “This has undeniable charm and pizzazz much like most of Watanabe’s repertoire, looking forward to seeing more of this world and cast.” Akuma-chi “This is so chill. The girls are a delight to follow. The setting is just so cool and the premise of 2 girls against the entertainment industry is :blobaww: This is like shounen for people who are tired of action shounens xD” Selinea “First, casual female friendships! Despite being a sci-fi show set on Mars, the world and society portrayed is extremely familiar, invocative, and inviting. I also enjoyed the music, and Carole’s singing voice is especially rich and emotive.” 2. Fruits Basket (2019) (889.75 Points) ![]() MisaoAino: 1 Alicia1020: 1 Epic_Unicorns: 1 Yasaal: 2 Schizoidmouse: 2 Screex: 2 Poetication: 3 Selinea: 3 vladkob: 3 Alicador: 4 Ericonator: 5 BlueSkylark: 5 Shuuka: 6 Akuma-chi: 8 DrainZ: 10 Jokobo: 13 Zerity: 18 LolImMatt: 20 Jokobo “Just kinda classic, mediocre shoujo with standard characters (even the art is like in every shoujo). They need to tell more about the whole zodiac matter really fast.” Yasaal “Still in its early stages but its so wholesome, never felt this since Tanaka-kun.” BlueSkylark “Good show for a Shoujo. Likeable Main character. Still I feel like this hasn't really reached it's full potential yet. Glad that we get multiple seasons of this.” MisaoAino “It didn't disappoint me at all. The guys have a more mature design (no shota Yuuki!), and I'm reaaallly OK with that ^.^ (I need to watch mooore.)” Schizoidmouse “On paper it looks like a zodiac dating sim, yet in practice it has cute character dynamics and a resilient and charming lead to ground us.” Akuma-chi “It's off to a cute start, the VAs are nice. It's a bit messy as it establishes its characters but it'll probably get smoother as it gets into the real nitty gritty of the show.” Selinea “I’ve read the manga, the first adaptation was terrible, so this looks great in comparison. Fruits Basket is starting off slower, introducing characters and dropping hints of what’s to come. Overall, a good shoujo drama, but lacks that extra burst of excitement/obsession to push it to the top.” 3. Dororo (859.5 Points) ![]() Yasaal: 1 Poetication: 1 BlueSkylark: 2 DrainZ: 2 Alicador: 2 LolImMatt: 3 MisaoAino: 3 Schizoidmouse: 4 Epic_Unicorns: 4 vladkob: 4 Screez: 4 Selinea: 6 Akuma-chi: 7 Zerity: 10 Ericonator: 10 Shuuka: 13 Jokobo: 14 Jokobo “Same as Tate no Yuusha, this is so stabilized right now that without any big plot twist I can't say nothing new about it.” Yasaal “Story wise it's continued to be consistent although animation slips are seen in this cour. Still my #1 coz PLOT.” BlueSkylark “Kinda has an advantage since it already is in it's second Cour, but still great historic roadtrip tale, with really good world-building.” MisaoAino “It was interesting to watch how both Dororo's and Hyakki's stories developed. My thumbs are still up for Dororo :3” Schizoidmouse “See previous season and you’ll know.” Akuma-chi “The story kinda lowkey switched focus over to Dororo, and I love that. The morality of the last mini-arc tho... it reminds me again that Hyakkimaru is and will always be driven by revenge and hatred, something I had forgotten recently.” Selinea “The episodic fights against demons continue, some side stories have been more effective than others. My biggest issue is the sudden but unsustained/unrecalled leaps in character development. Not usually a fan of Tezuka's stuff, so kudos to this adaptation for being more entertaining to a modern audience yet.” 4. Kono Oto Tomare! (712.25 Points) ![]() DrainZ: 1 Epic_Unicorns: 2 Selinea: 2 Jokobo: 3 BlueSkylark: 3 Akuma-chi: 4 Shuuka: 5 Screex: 5 MisaoAino: 6 Alicia1020: 6 Schizoidmouse: 9 Poetication: 10 LolImMatt: 12 vladkob: 12 Yasaal: 13 Alicador: 13 Jokobo “A lot of character development yet they don't use the overdramatic exposition, I'm slightly surprised about that because a lot of club-oriented anime does that (Hibike meh).” Yasaal “Neat little show, establishes its relationships wisely but... *looks at Chihayafuru*” BlueSkylark “Solid show, with intriguing characters. The "school music club theme" has been quite a lot in the past, but more important then uniqueness is execution and Kono Oto delivers on that front.” MisaoAino “This is a wonderful surprise! I'm very happy with this show ^.^ It makes me feel like when I first watched Run with the Wind and Tsurune two seasons ago <3” Schizoidmouse “Not the best animation for sure, but this is the little anime that is trying despite its limitations to create compelling characters.” Akuma-chi “Kotos are cool. The characters and their dynamics are bliss and gawsh, it's so noble. The goal is clear, we've got a strong grasp on these characters and it's just fun to watch.” Selinea “Give characters enough backstory/likeability, and it doesn't matter if I've seen this drama a dozen times, I'll still fall in love. I guess no matter how old I get, I’ll never grow out of liking a misunderstood bad boy.” 5. Sarazanmai (676.5 Points) ![]() Akuma-chi: 1 vladkob: 1 Zerity: 2 Shuuka: 2 Yasaal: 3 Selinea: 4 DrainZ: 4 Alicia1020: 5 Jokobo: 6 LolImMatt: 7 Schizoidmouse: 8 Screex: 9 BlueSkylark: 17 Epic_Unicorns: 17 MisaoAino: 18 Jokobo “Good Ikuhara stuff... but still, after first two episodes I feel that it lacks his favourite themes (sexuality and adolescence). Ikuhara is good not because of absurdity but because of that...” Yasaal “ Ikuhara. Nothing else. Just pure ridiculousness.” BlueSkylark “Had real trouble placing this one. On one hand I like it's extremly offbeat and wacky antics, on the other it got really repetitive after the first Episode.” MisaoAino “How can I describe this? We are between the "weird af" and masterpiece line xD This show will surely grant everyone's wishes! Comedy, action, musical, BL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, you are not convinced yet? Well: Mamo#3” Schizoidmouse “Ikuhara being Ikuhara, just not sure if this Ikuhara is too much Ikuhara or just enough Ikuhara.” Akuma-chi “Omg, this is amazing! The slick af animation, bouncy and eccentric art and the deconstruction of privacy in the name of desire~ I can watch those ridiculous sequences over and over again <3” Selinea “The weird imagery/humor is more distracting than laugh-out-loud to me, but what I really love is the slow unfurling of character details and interactions that perfectly reflect the theme of connection. Also, Sarazanmai reminded me of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared” 6. Kimetsu no Yaiba (638.5 Points) ![]() Screex: 1 Schizoidmouse: 3 Shuuka: 4 Alicia1020: 4 LolImMatt: 6 Akuma-chi: 6 vladkob: 6 Poetication: 7 DrainZ: 7 Yasaal: 9 Alicador: 9 Epic_Unicorns: 10 MisaoAino: 12 SelineaL 13 Zerity: 15 BlueSkylark: 15 Ericonator: 17 Jokobo: 18 Jokobo “I'm so glad that they aborted the comedic/light part of the show and decided to jump into more action and darker stuff. The first 2 episodes was really mediocre, 3 & 4 eps improved a lot.” Yasaal “Yeah no it started off fresh but its falling back to its medium's tropes. Why can I predict the next 4 episodes.” BlueSkylark “Probably one of my bigger dissapointments this season. Has nothing to stand out other then it's beautiful presentation. Probably the worst aspect of the show is the MC.” MisaoAino “First I thought of Golden Kamuy... but the only similar thing to GK is the snow xD - Now my thoughts are closer to Black Clover :loli_smug:” Schizoidmouse “This guy’s life sucks, but at least it is beautifully animated and entertaining. Has some great potential I hope it reaches it.” Akuma-chi “I'm really savouring the art, the direction. It's like slow-burning coals at the moment but we're beginning to see the splash (pun not intended) and excited to see MC's journey as a fledging demon slayer!” Selinea “Too cliché and formulaic. It’s every medieval fantasy call-to-action and training montage wrapped together in anime form. The tonal whiplash and flat water animation feels bizarre. While MC exceptionalism runs rampant in shounens, my suspension of disbelief is being pushed. I usually like battle shounen, but Yaiba is not doing it for me.” 7. Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu (604 Points) ![]() Jokobo: 1 Ericonator: 1 Zerity: 3 Epic_Unicorns: 3 vladkob: 5 BlueSkylark: 6 Yasaal: 8 Shuuka: 8 MisaoAino: 8 DrainZ: 9 Alicia1020: 10 LolImMatt: 11 Poetication: 11 Seilnea: 14 Akuma-chi: 18 Jokobo “It reminds me the Isshuukan Friends a lot (with small difference that Isshuukan is a romance and not so much comedy). Very shy and antisocial girl wants to have friends, slow and quiet show.” Yasaal “I don't think I need to speak for this show's cuteness in any way shape or form. Bocchi or gtfo.” BlueSkylark “Cute comedy show. Characters are adorbale especially Bocchi herself.” MisaoAino “This clumsy and socially awkward girl and her friends are making the most adorable show of the season up to now ^.^” Akuma-chi “This is subliminal messaging, that the weird ones (or the ones with exposable secrets) attract each other because they will be easier to befriend.” Selinea “I loathe overly shy characters, but the rest of the show is still okay. The underlying emotions are somewhat relatable, from meeting strangers to pretending to have your act together. I mostly laugh at how pathetic middle schoolers are, relieved I no longer am one. Makes me feel like a bully, but hey, I never claimed to be nice.” 8. Senryuu Shoujo (586.75 Points) ![]() LolImMatt: 1 Ericonator: 3 Screex: 3 Yasaal: 7 vladkob: 7 Alicador: 7 Zerity: 8 BlueSkylark: 8 Shuuka: 9 Alicia1020: 9 MisaoAino: 10 Epic_Unicorns: 11 Selinea: 12 Schizoidmouse: 13 DrainZ: 14 Poetication: 15 Jokobo: 17 Jokobo “Since this is a yonkoma-based anime, the comedic part is very important. Jokes are more subdued and relaxing here, but they must be careful so that it doesn't turn into boredom.” Yasaal “Fun and cute, thankfully is faithful to the manga, KanaHana is adorable and we even have an interesting MC.” BlueSkylark “Best Short of the Season. The characters are cute, the twist with them only writing and drawing what they want to say is funny and also a bit of romance.” MisaoAino “Poem dialogues sound original... but everything has a limit, I guess -.- Thank God the male MC and the cool senpai are involved xD They really make the show! :3” Schizoidmouse “I want to like this more, but as much as the leading two are cute there isn’t much besides that fact that’s keeping me around.” Akuma-chi “Not that funny, interactions are pretty cute. A girl writes 5-7-5 for everyday conversation... but the gimmick of the show is actually not the girl but a guy that looks like a delinquent going to the literature club.” Selinea “I thought I would enjoy Senryuu Shoujo more. The characters are cute, but there is an inherent lack of depth and progression. Everybody is a one quirk wonder played blandly straight. It doesn't drag too much, but just doesn't give me enough every week.” 9. Tate no Yuushu no Nariagari (445.75 Points) ![]() Alicador: 3 LolImMatt: 5 MisaoAino: 5 Poetication: 6 Screex: 6 Epic_Unicorns: 9 Selinea: 11 DrainZ: 11 Jokobo: 12 Zerity: 12 Shuuka: 12 Yasaal: 15 Schizoidmouse: 16 vladkob: 17 Akuma-chi: 19 Ericonator: 20 Jokobo “dunno what to write about this one because it has become so predictable that my score and opinion about it won't change probably...” Yasaal “Lost steam quite a bit, I can't even defend this show anymore, so now I'll start laughing at Fairy Gone instead.” BlueSkylark “Raphtalia is getting more and more on my nerves as the heroine. Antagonists that even look embarassingly cartoonish next to Power Rangers villains.” MisaoAino “I have sympathized with Raphtalia since the very beginning, and of course watching these episodes about her past made my crybaby-self to come out :weep:” Schizoidmouse “I don’t hate our main cast, just I get aggravated at everything else around them.” Akuma-chi “As usual, we get our bad bad guy, atrocity and bad CGI of the arc. They are all separate things. We did get a proper backstory on Raphtalia (which was nothing special, but still solid) and with the recent events... I'm getting hopeful again?” Selinea “Shield Hero is like low-fat popcorn: not filling or even great snack, but easy to eat and keep eating every week. This quarter is especially weak, "fleshing out" the poor demi-humans storyline; exposing just how 1D the characters and world building are in the process.” 10. Bungou Stray Dogs 3rd Season (419.25 Points) ![]() MisaoAino: 2 LolImMatt: 4 BlueSkylark: 4 Epic_Unicorns: 5 Selinea: 5 Zerity: 6 Jokobo: 7 Shuuka: 10 vladkob: 10 Jokobo “” BlueSkylark “So we start of with a flashback arc again much like in S2, however this time Chuya is the focus of it. Not as good as the one in S2, but still entertaining. Glad that this show is back.” MisaoAino “This "let's do what we did on the 2nd season again" worked pretty well. I am not a Chuuya fan, but I admit he is a good character. This Chuuya arc worked pretty well for me. Mamo#1” Selinea “After a shaky first episode, BSD is back! Episode 3, especially, really bridged the gap between the flashback it opened on and how characters became the way they are today, which is exactly the continuity I was looking for. Looking forward to seeing the full cast next episode though.” 11. One Punch Man 2nd Season (406 Points) ![]() Alicia1020: 3 DrainZ: 3 Poetication: 4 Epic_Unicorns: 6 Screex: 8 Schizoidmouse: 10 BlueSkylark: 11 vladkob: 11 Yasaal: 12 Jokobo: 15 Selinea: 15 Akuma-chi: 15 Ericonator: 19 Jokobo “Ugh, OPM... the first season was really boring to me, repeating title concept all the time, I hope that it will change in this season and the other heroes will be the key to this change.” Yasaal “There's 0 reason to watch this if you read the manga. Garou is fun but ugh this show deserved better.” BlueSkylark “Enjoyable. Not really a downgrade in terms of the story compared to the first season, but is somewhat limited with it's animation.” Schizoidmouse “Same show as before just with an animation downgrade. One joke man, with varying degrees of entertainment.” Akuma-chi “The story is as good as it was. The jokes still kinda land. The fights are clearly not of the same ilk. Sharp animation, dynamic camera angles and no frames wasted was replaced by indistinct looped punches, dusty cutaways and standing moments of thought.” Selinea “All the issues I had with S1 have not improved in S2. The biggest is the shabby world building; you can’t demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking if there’s no box to begin with. The delivery in OPM just isn't funny to me. I was never impressed by S1's animation, so it just went from mediocre animation to mediocre animation imo.” 12. Isekai Quartet (362.5 Points) ![]() Zerity: 5 Jokobo: 5 Yasaal: 5 LolImMatt: 8 BlueSkylark: 9 Akuma-chi: 9 Alicia1020: 11 Epic_Unicorns: 12 Ericonator: 13 vladkob: 13 Schizoidmouse: 14 Poetication: 17 Jokobo “Re:Zero and KonoSuba <3 I don't even need the other two franchises to know that it will be very enjoyable (+Tanya cause of Yuuki Aoi). It has a lot of potential for good hermetic jokes.” Yasaal “Idk why this show is so popular, its a chibi spinoff, but whatever I'm having fun.” BlueSkylark “Fanservice how it is supposed to be. Since I have seen all of the shows I get the maximum enjoyment out of this and I love the references.” Schizoidmouse “I like one quarter of this cast and not every cast of other shows are bringing something to the table yet so I find myself just wanting another KonoSuba season.” Akuma-chi “Mmm... my school-set crossover of an isekai of isekais has started and so far, it's mostly Konosuba taking center stage on the comedy front. But I trust that everyone will eventually come into their own as this short progresses!” 13. Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san (346.5 Points) ![]() Ericonator: 2 Alicia1020: 8 vladkob: 8 DrainZ: 8 Zerity: 9 BlueSkylark: 10 Akuma-chi: 10 Yasaal: 11 LolImMatt: 14 Epic_Unicorns: 14 Screex: 17 Selinea: 18 Jokobo: 19 Jokobo “Iyashikei about some fox wife (yamato nadeshiko-stylized) and how she takes care of overworked employee... just okey, I guess. Just sit and rewind, don't expect too much.” Yasaal “Mofu mofu bitch.” BlueSkylark “Against popular belief I like cute shows, so Senko-san fits right into my niche. This one is much more of a slow burner though and not much is actually going on other then daily routines.” Akuma-chi “Literally this is the fluffiest show of the season... and I mean literally.” Selinea “If I see the word “spoil” or “pamper” on my screen one more time, I swear I’m going to put my fist through it. It tries to do two very different things: wish fulfillment and this running thread of realism... Contradictory and not particularly relaxing when it reminds me of my own housework.” 14. Shares a similar energy to Double Decker. Just a fun offbeat space advanture roadtrip.” MisaoAino “Another nice surprise! To be honest, I don't know what was I expecting for this show but I knew I was going to like it :3 I wanna go to Isekandar! Cheers for Maginzer 2019!! xD” Schizoidmouse “So far the comedy is my type of odd (debt collectors included), but it is worrying that it may grow stale sooner or later as I am constantly reminded of better shows.” Akuma-chi “This is like... the overly average demon spawn between the absurdity of Uchuu Senkan Tiramisu, the plot and progression of Ultraman kids and the character traits of Double Decker: Doug and Kirill... with a dollop of somewhat gay Moretsu Pirates.” Selinea “Started off amazing since everything was new. But like any other comedy directed by Takamatsu, great initial concepts give way to inconsistencies and lack of progression. There's no growth or new traits from any of their new experiences. A couple chuckles here and there, but it's becoming less fresh.” 15. Still, first episode was surprisingly good, pumped with action and plot. Good introduction to the second part... opening sucks tho.” Yasaal “Is the Sasageyou meme still relevant or are we going back to Guren no Yumiya?” Schizoidmouse “First episode is just build up. I’m more interested to see what happens after this episode, but that hasn’t happened yet so nothing to report.” Akuma-chi “Smashing start. Starts with intrigue, character driving conversation and good kicks. Depending on my mood, it can only get worse or get better. I'm thinking better because we don't have many action series.” 16. Shame its single cour.” MisaoAino “Well, I have never imagined I'd enjoy a baseball show xD” Schizoidmouse “So far Mix’s slow approach to character building is not making look forward to watching it week to week, but it may reap the rewards in the end.” Akuma-chi “The colourful and sarcastic bitching of the collective team about the bureaucracies of a middle school baseball club getting shanked by higher ups is the highlight so far, especially Tachibana Touma.” 17. Start was a bit uninteresting though. Still, I like the Trickster.” MisaoAino “Another "weird af" show. Do you know what is this about? Please, PM me if you have figured it out.” Schizoidmouse “It’s like a supernatural sitcom about patrolling the streets. Funny at times and tediously dragging in others depending on the subplot. Just like every other sitcom.” Akuma-chi “I have a preference for SoLs involving helping out ayakashi. Ofc, this show doesn't fit that to a tee but here I am! Unleashing my bias and letting it show~” Selinea “The pacing in this show is all kinds of wrong. Stop plastering dates on my screen, it's completely irrelevant. If it can’t even manage to show days are passing organically, it's not delivering a smooth viewing experience. On the whole, bored/disengaged: this is one of those times nothing quite clicks for me.” 18. Does one thing, but does that thing really really well. Might get repetitive later.” Akuma-chi “I just can't feel sorry for whatever it is that Ao does to herself, but I guess for me that makes it fun. Still like the morals of this show.” MisaoAino “I expected something more elaborate... it's so episodic and boring... If not for the blood, I'd say it's a kids show -.- (special thanks to Magic Kaito and robot Godzilla for their appearances - also, is this a new Pokemon generation?).” Schizoidmouse “The setting is almost like there was a hostile planet in No Man’s Sky and people colonized it. Greed and science ensues and nature strikes back, with a shounen protag.” Akuma-chi “Are you...? Are you making fun of my intelligence? I think you are. No, I'm sure you are. (Trust me, this comment is relevant in both the most literal and meta way possible.)” Selinea “Utterly disappointing, I can't feel sympathy for side characters introduced in the episodic storylines in tragedies that are mostly self-inflicted... then trivialized further by the OP MC. On top of that, he's hardly the image of charisma/complexity, as a typical sarcastic asshole.” 20. THEY RUINED THE ANIME. THEY RUINED EVERYTHING. GO WATCH 2 CAR.” BlueSkylark “Can be funny at times. Still don't like the characters at all. I am still wondering, if this show takes itself seriously.” MisaoAino “Nice beginning. I found the comedy good and well-timed (stares at certain boy with a demon imouto). I hope it keeps going on the right path.” Schizoidmouse “If you don’t like One Punch Man’s animation drop, just look at this one and rejoice.” Akuma-chi “Today's perks of being an isekai protagonist: ability to innovate unconventional inventions with fictitious ideas from the modern media, not having 20+ years worth of experience in the art of "common sense" (I've helpfully chopped off 17 years of hobo) and a shit ton of magic.” Selinea “I usually don't subscribe to the "so bad it's good" phenomenon. But a comedy series that acts even stupider than its already dumb premise? Hilarity ensues. The unintentional layer to its intentional humor is what I enjoy the most about this show. After all these years, I've finally found my "so bad it's good" show.” Honourable Mentions 21. Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!? (193.75 Points) Akuma-chi “Man... wouldn't I love a teacher like her, who's everywhere I go because she's lowkey borderline stalking me. The fact that she has many childhood connections to me that I never knew about until now has nothing to do with this equation. Also fuck censors.” 22. Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (191.5 Points) Yasaal “Uhh the animation is good here??? Not much else to talk about. Go read the manga.” BlueSkylark “Generic wannabe Nisekoi, that lacks the upbeat energy of what it copys. Probably one of the most pointless anime of the season.” Schizoidmouse “I have to put this on my list and thus it is here.” Akuma-chi “Two seasons in a row with the tutor harem malarkey. It's nice this has more focus on the getting good grades thing but my investment is at an all time low.” Selinea “All my years of avoiding ecchi harem comedies has apparently led me to being susceptive to half-way decent fluff when it comes around. Bokuben is a solid/pleasant recombination of existing tropes that I don't have enough exposure to to get annoyed at.” 23. Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine (189 Points) Jokobo “It's like ~10 anime about baseball which I watched, and yet I still cannot understand all rules about baseball... sad reactions only.” BlueSkylark “Cute girls doing sporty things. Nuff said.” MisaoAino “The girls are nice... but I don't think they are really playing baseball xD Just more CGDCT.” Akuma-chi “This is a typical story of a club forming from nothing from the force of will of one MC. Because of the 9 person requirement, they don't mess around, which is nice.” 24. Fairy Gone (155.75 Points) Jokobo “Kinda Boogiepop style, but at least it is quite understandable...” Yasaal “Imagine thinking this show deserves any more than a 4. Imagine thinking this show is anything close to decency.” BlueSkylark “Nice soundtrack and character designs. Horrible pacing, way to much exposition and it overall just feels way to directionless.” MisaoAino “This is one of those shows I'd categorize as "weird af". I'm still confused about the plot. And the fairies do not sparkle! >.<” Schizoidmouse “Four episodes of me not caring about anything and learning about barely anything that makes me want to get invested into this world. Give me someone to care about first.” Akuma-chi “This is some fancy looking stuff... until you realise you can't make sense out of the story and the director never held your hand for the plot in the first place.” Selinea “Like all PA originals that I've seen, Fairy Gone has zero sense of organization and flow. The flashbacks had no sense of chronology and concept of worldbuilding seems severely misunderstood; as if throwing out an arbitrary list of location names and reciting some basic "historical" facts means anything.” 25. Diamond no Ace: Act II (153.25 Points) Schizoidmouse “I really like the first season of the show, 100 and something episodes later we have this season and my interest is nearing non-existent levels.” |

Individual Rankings: @Jokobo 1. Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu 2. Carole & Tuesday 3. Kono Oto Tomare! 4. Gunjou no Magmel 5. Isekai Quartet 6. Sarazanmai 7. Bungou Stray Dogs 3 8. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin 9. RobiHachi 10. Shingeki no Kyojin 3 Part 2 11. Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine 12. Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari 13. Fruits Basket (2019) 14. Dororo 15. One Punch Man 2 16. Kenja no Mago 17. Senryuu Shoujo 18. Kimetsu no Yaiba 19. Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san 20. Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai 1. Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu It reminds me the Isshuukan Friends a lot (with small difference that Isshuukan is a romance and not so much comedy). Very shy and antisocial girl wants to have friends, slow and quiet show. 2. Carole & Tuesday This high place is a bit exaggerated, but I gave Carole and Tuesday the credit of trust, cause they have kinda slow start and I can't estimate the plot premise. Music is beautiful tho. 3. Kono Oto Tomare! A lot of character development yet they don't use the overdramatic exposition, I'm slightly surprised about that because a lot of club-oriented anime does that (Hibike meh). 4. Gunjou no Magmel I love how it makes good use of episodic construction of the show and how each episode have a hidden (yet easy to notice) message and how describes negative behaviors and emotions of humankind. 5. Isekai Quartet Re:Zero and KonoSuba <3 I don't even need the other two franchises to know that it will be very enjoyable (+Tanya cause of Yuuki Aoi). It has a lot of potential for good hermetic jokes. 6. Sarazanmai Good Ikuhara stuff... but still, after first two episodes I feel that it lacks his favourite themes (sexuality and adolescence). Ikuhara is good not because of absurdity but because of that... 7. Bungou Stray Dogs 3 At last, more story about events when Dazai was in Port Mafia. And they start to develop charactes from Port Mafia too, which previous 2 seasons treated negligently. 8. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin Mayonaka focuses on the mystery around main character from the beginning, so I feel that it can become quite interesting (in contrast to Fukigen which lacked this kind of plot device). 9. RobiHachi so it is a original so I don't know what to expect, but I can tell that it'll probably become a funny and unique space/mecha comedy, but not as chaotic as Space Dandy (which is good). 10. Shineki no Kyojin 3 part 2 I hate that official numeration. Still, first episode was surprisingly good, pumped with action and plot. Good introduction to the second part... opening sucks tho. 11. Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine Its like ~10 anime about baseball which I watched, and yet I still cannot understand all rules about baseball... sad reactions only. 12. Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari dunno what to write about this one because it has become so predictable that my score and opinion about it won't change probably... 13. Fruits Basket (2019) Just kinda classic, mediocre shoujo with standard characters (even the art is like in every shoujo). They need to tell more about the whole zodiac matter really fast. 14. Dororo Same as Tate no Yuusha, this is so stabilized right now that without any big plot twist I can't say nothing new about it. 15. One Punch Man 2 Ugh, OPM... the first season was really boring to me, repeating title concept all the time, I hope that it will change in this season and the other heroes will be the key to this change. 16. Kenja no Mago Really? Another stupid Isekai show with OP main character who can literally destroy the world if he wishes to? Just stop this carousel of mediocre isekai shows without any premise. 17. Senryuu Shoujo Since this is a yonkoma-based anime, the comedic part is very important. Jokes are more subdued and relaxing here, but they must be careful so that it doesn't turn into boredom. 18. Kimetsu no Yaiba I'm so glad that they aborted the comedic/light part of the show and decided to jump into more action and darker stuff. The first 2 episodes was really mediocre, 3 & 4 eps improved a lot. 19. Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san Iyashikei about some fox wife (yamato nadeshiko-stylized) and how she takes care of overworked employee... just okey, I guess. Just sit and rewind, don't expect too much. 20. Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai I feel bad for the daughter, thanks to her father she can't even distinguish love from lust. This anime is probably interesting for me because I'm interested in psychology. Post-20 comments: 21. Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!? Okey, so this is so stupid that I'm enjoying it... but where is the uncensored version? I need to wait for blu-ray probably because they are censoring even kisses. 23. Fairy gone Kinda Boogiepop style, but at least it is quite understandable... 26. Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma Well... so you can grab your student boobs, be caught red-handed and then just explain to your female coworker that nothing happened... okey. 27. Strike Witches: 501 Butai Hasshin Shimasu! GIVE ME THE NORMAL SERIES, NOT THIS... UHHH... CRAP. I'm still waiting for 3 season, the movie was even better than first 2 seasons. 30. Joshikausei At least give me cute seiyuu so I can enjoy their voice goddammit. 31. Bakumatsu: Crisis Otome stuff blah. 32. Namu Amida Butsu!: Rendai Utena Otome stuff blah. x2 Except it is even worse than the above anime. 33. Chou Kadou Girl 1/6: Amazing Stranger Its like Frame Arms Girl... but 10x worse than this. 21. Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!? 22. Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai 23. Fairy gone 24. Hangyakusei Million Arthur 2 25. Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki 26. Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma 27. Strike Witches: 501 Butai Hasshin Shimasu! 28. Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO 29. Shoumetsu Toshi 30. Joshikausei 31. Bakumatsu: Crisis 32. Namu Amida Butsu!: Rendai Utena 33. Not much else to talk about. Go read the manga. Carole and Tuesday There's far better Watanabe anime than this so I'm not going crazy over this, but really good show either way. Chou Kadou Girl Kinda slow but a good show to relax with. Cinderella Nine I never knew Kaga Kouko played baseball. But hey, fun simplistic show. Dororo Story wise it's continued to be consistent although animation slips are seen in this cour. Still my #1 coz PLOT Fairy Gone Imagine thinking this show deserves any more than a 4. Imagine thinking this show is anything close to decency. Fruits Basket 2019 Still in its early stages but its so wholesome, never felt this since Tanaka-kun. Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu I don't think I need to speak for this show's cuteness in any way shape or form. Bocchi or gtfo. Isekai Quartet Idk why this show is so popular, its a chibi spinoff, but whatever I'm having fun. Joshikausei Classic example of "better as manga" Kenja no Mago NO STFU. THEY RUINED THE ANIME. THEY RUINED EVERYTHING. GO WATCH 2 CAR Kimetsu no Yaiba Yeah no it started off fresh but its falling back to its medium's tropes. Why can I predict the next 4 episodes Kitsune Senko-san Mofu mofu bitch. Kono oto Tomare Neat little show, establishes its relationships wisely but *looks at Chihayafuru* Mayonaka no Occult Koumin One of the more interesting Japanese folklore shows, so for those who love this sorta stuff have fun. Midara na Ao-chan The more interesting benkyou show this season. Mix One of the better baseball shows, and with good reason too (author). Shame its single cour. Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma What? One Punch Man 2 There's 0 reason to watch this if you read the manga. Garou is fun but ugh this show deserved better. RobiHachi Nakai Kazuya, Space, planets, traveling and Nakai Kazuya Sarazanmai Ikuhara. Nothing else. Just pure ridiculousness. Senryu Shoujo Fun and cute, thankfully is faithful to the manga, KanaHana is adorable and we even have an interesting MC. Shingeki no Kyojin S3 C2 Is the Sasageyou meme still relevant or are we going back to Guren no Yumiya? Shoumetsu Toshi Yeah no, the 2 reasons left to watch this show is Sugita and Tomokazu, so one reason... Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Lost steam quite a bit, I can't even defend this show anymore, so now I'll start laughing at Fairy Gone instead. Yu-No I heard this was an anime of a remake of a Visual Novel. So rip consistency in OG's quality. @BlueSkylark 1. Carole & Tuesday 2. Dororo 3. Kono Oto Tomare! 4. Bungou Stray Dogs S3 5. Fruits Basket 6. Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu 7. RobiHachi 8. Senryuu Shoujo 9. Isekai Quartet 10. Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san 11. One Punch Man S2 12. Chou Kadou Girl 13.Gunjou no Magmel 14. Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai 15. Kimetsu no Yaiba 16. Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine 17. Sarazanmai 18. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin 19. Fairy Gone 20. Kenja no Mago 21. BokuBen 22. The Legend of the Shield Hero 23. Joshikausei 24. Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma 25. Konoyo no Hate do Koi o Utau Shoujo YU-NO 1. Carole & Tuesday: (Hands down the best show of the season without even a contest. Production value is through the roof, character have amazing synergy and feel authentic, rather then the sum of their tropes. And I love the message the show carries.) 2. Dororo: (Kinda has an advantage since it already is in it's second Cour, but still great historic roadtrip tale, with really good world-building) 3. Kono Oto Tomare! (Solid show, with intriguing characters. The "school music club theme" has been quite a lot in the past, but more important then uniqueness is execution and Kono Oto delivers on that front.) 4. Bungou Stray Dogs S3 (So we start of with a flashback arc again much like in S2, however this time Chuya is the focus of it. Not as good as the one in S2, but still entertaining. Glad that this show is back.) 5. Fruits Basket (Good show for a Shoujo. Likeable Main character. Still I feel like this hasn't really reached it's full potential yet. Glad that we get multiple seasons of this.) 6. Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu (Cute Comedy show. Characters are adorbale especially Bocchi herself.) 7. RobiHachi (Surprise of the season for me. Shares a similar energy to Double Decker. Just a fun offbeat space advanture roadtrip.) 8. Senryuu Shoujo (Best Short of the Season. The characters are cute, the twist with them only writing and drawing what they want to say is funny and also a bit of romance.) 9. Isekai Quartet (Fanservice how it is supposed to be. Since I have seen all of the shows I get the maximum enjoyment out of this and I love the references.) 10. Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san (Against popular believe I like cute shows, so Senko-san fits right into my niche. This one is much more of a slow burner though and not much is actually going on other then daily routines.) 11. One Punch Man S2 (Enjoyable. Not really a downgrade in terms of the story compared to the first season, but is somewhat limited with it's animation) 12. Chou Kadou Girl (The 1/6 size dream of every otaku. In all honesty probably one of the more romantic shows of the season. You don't get between a Man and his figurine.) 13.Gunjou no Magmel (Enjoyable shounen story, but has some logical pitfalls. Still like the morals of this show.) 14. Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai (Actually a really funny show. Does one thing, but does that thing really really well. Might get repetitive later.) 15. Kimetsu no Yaiba (Probably one of my bigger dissapointments this season. Has nothing to stand out other then it's beautiful presentation. Probably the worst aspect of the show is the MC.) 16. Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine (Cute girls doing sporty things. Nuff said.) 17. Sarazanmai (Had real trouble placing this one. On one hand I like it's extremly offbeat and wacky antics, on the other it got really repetitive after the first Episode) 18. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin (Has the potential to get better over time. Start was a bit uninteresting though.Still I like the Trickster.) 19. Fairy Gone (Nice soundtrack and character designs. Horrible pacing, way to much exposition and it overall just feels way to directionless.) 20. Kenja no Mago (Can be funny at times. Still don't like the characters at all. I am still wondering, if this show takes itself seriously.) 21. BokuBen (Generic wannabe Nisekoi, that lacks the upbeat energy of what it copys. Probably one of the most pointless anime of the season.) 22. The Legend of the Shield Hero (Raphtalia is getting more and more on my nerves as the heroine. Antagonists that even look embarassingly cartoonish next to Power Rangers villains.) 23. Joshikausei (Tbh. The only show that is below 20 and is getting better. Horrible first impression, but don't mind it and even remotly have fun with it by now.) 24. Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma (Creativly bankrupt. This show is nothing.) 25. Konoyo no Hate do Koi o Utau Shoujo YU-NO (The show that demonstrates that there is a space below nothing. It is the place where all the stupid Visual Novel Cliches live. Here we have the granddaddy of them all. That should have long been dead due to old age.) @MisaoAino 1. Fruits Basket 2. Bungou Stray Dogs 3rd Season 3. Dororo 4. Carole & Tuesday 5. Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari 6. Kono Oto Tomare! 7. RobiHachi 8. Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu 9. Mix 10. Senryuu Shoujo 11. Kenja no Mago 12. Kimetsu no Yaiba 13. Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine 14. Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki 15. Fairy Gone 16. Gunjou no Magmel 17. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin 18. Sarazanmai 19. Chou Kadou Girl ⅙: Amazing Stranger 20. Namu Amida Butsu!: Rendai Utena 1. Fruits Basket It didn't disappoint me at all. The guys have a more mature design (no shota Yuuki!), and I'm reaaallly OK with that ^.^ (I need to watch mooore) 2. Bungou Stray Dogs 3rd Season This "let's do what we did on the 2nd season again" worked pretty well. I am not a Chuuya fan, but I admit he is a good character. This Chuuya arc worked pretty well for me. Mamo#1 3. Dororo It was interesting to watch how both Dororo's and Hyakki's stories developed. My thumbs are still up for Dororo :3 4. Carole & Tuesday Wonderful voices. I am surprised and pleased. These girls make a really good duo. Mamo#2 5. Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari I have sympathized with Raphtalia since the very beginning, and of course watching these episodes about her past made my crybaby-self to come out :weep: 6. Kono Oto Tomare! This is a wonderful surprise! I'm very happy with this show ^.^ It makes me feel like when I first watched Run with the Wind and Tsurune two seasons ago <3 7. RobiHachi Another nice surprise! To be honest, I don't know what was I expecting for this show but I knew I was going to like it :3 I wanna go to Isekandar! Cheers for Maginzer 2019!! xD 8. Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu This clumsy and socially awkward girl and her friends are making the most adorable show of the season up to now ^.^ 9. Mix Well, I have never imagined I'd enjoy a baseball show xD 10. Senryuu Shoujo Poem dialogues sound original... but everything has a limit, I guess -.- Thank God the male MC and the cool senpai are involved xD They really make the show! :3 11. Kenja no Mago Nice beginning. I found the comedy good and well-timed (stares at certain boy with a demon imouto). I hope it keeps going on the right path. 12. Kimetsu no Yaiba First I thought of Golden Kamuy... but the only similar thing to GK is the snow xD - Now my thoughts are closer to Black Clover :loli_smug: 13. Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine The girls are nice... but I don't think they are really playing baseball xD Just more CGDCT 14. Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki Yatogame-chan is this season's Gunma show: Do you want to visit Nagoya? Then come and watch this show! 15. Fairy Gone This is one of those shows I'd categorize as "weird af". I'm still confused about the plot. And the fairies do not sparkle! >.< 16. Gunjou no Magmel I expected something more elaborated... This is so episodic and boring... If it wasn't for the blood, I'd say it's a kids show -.- (special thanks to Magic Kaito and robot Godzilla for their appearances - also, is this a new Pokemon generation?). 17. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin Another "weird af" show. Do you know what is this about? Please, PM me if you have figured it out. 18. Sarazanmai How can I describe this? We are between the "weird af" and masterpiece line xD This show will surely grant everyone's wishes! Comedy, action, musical, BL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, you are not convinced yet? Well: Mamo#3 19. Chou Kadou Girl ⅙: Amazing Stranger What? You can't say this astonishes you! It's just Japan sexualizing loli dolls! Of course!!! 20. Namu Amida Butsu!: Rendai Utena There are only two good things about this show: good-looking characters and their voice actors. Misao's Jigoku: 21. Shoumetsu Toshi Category: "weird af" - Is this a joke? 22. Joshikausei Who thought this could be funny? @Schizoidmouse 1. Carole & Tuesday 2. Fruits Basket 3. Kimetsu no Yaiba 4. Dororo 5. RobiHachi 6. Mix: Meisei Story 7. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin 8. Sarazanmai 9. Kono Oto Tomare! 10. One Punch Man 2 11. Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 12. Gunjou no Magmel 13. Senryuu Shoujo 14. Isekai Quartet 15. Fairy Gone 16. Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari 17. Chou Kadou Girl 1/6 18. Diamond no Ace: Act 2 19. Kenja no Mago 20. BokuBen 1. Carole & Tuesday This has undeniable charm and pizzazz much like most of Watanabe’s repertoire, looking forward to seeing more of this world and cast. 2. Fruits Basket On paper it looks like a zodiac dating sim, yet in practice it has cute character dynamics and a resilient and charming lead to ground us. 3. Kimetsu no Yaiba This guy’s life sucks, but at least it is beautifully animated and entertaining. Has some great potential I hope it reaches it. 4. Dororo See previous season and you’ll know. 5. RobiHachi So far the comedy is my type of odd (debt collectors included), but it is worrying that it may grow stale sooner or later as I am constantly reminded of better shows. 6. Mix: Meisei Story So far Mix’s slow approach to character building is not making look forward to watching it week to week, but it may reap the rewards in the end. 7. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin It’s like a supernatural sitcom about patrolling the streets. Funny at times and tediously dragging in others depending on the subplot. Just like every other sitcom. 8. Sarazanmai Ikuhara being Ikuhara, just not sure if this Ikuhara is too much Ikuhara or just enough Ikuhara. 9. Kono Oto Tomare! Not the best animation for sure, but this is the little anime that is trying despite its limitations to create compelling characters. 10. One Punch Man 2 Same show as before just with an animation downgrade. One joke man, with varying degrees of entertainment. 11. Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2 First episode is just build up. I’m more interested to see what happens after this episode, but that hasn’t happened yet so nothing to report. 12. Gunjou no Magmel The setting is almost like there was a hostile planet in No Man’s Sky and people colonized it. Greed and science ensues and nature strikes back, with a shounen protag. 13. Senryuu Shoujo I want to like this more, but as much as the leading two are cute there isn’t much besides that fact that’s keeping me around. 14. Isekai Quartet I like one quarter of this cast and not every cast of other shows are bringing something to the table yet so I find myself just wanting another KonoSuba season. 15. Fairy Gone Four episodes of me not caring about anything and learning about barely anything that makes me want to get invested into this world. Give me someone to care about first. 16. Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari I don’t hate our main cast, just I get aggravated at everything else around them. 17. Chou Kadou Girl 1/6 Doll comes alive and attaches itself to owner to be his wife. Now I can’t look at my bobble heads without fearing the same thing. 18. Diamond no Ace: Act 2 I really like the first season of the show, 100 and something episodes later we have this season and my interest is nearing non-existent levels. 19. Kenja no Mago If you don’t like One Punch Man’s animation drop, just look at this one and rejoice. 20. BokuBen I have to put this on my list and thus it is here. @Akuma-chi 1 Sarazanmai 2 Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin 3 Carole & Tuesday 4 Kono Oto Tomare! 5 Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2 6 Kimetsu no Yaiba 7 Dororo 8 Fruits Basket (2019) 9 Isekai Quartet 10 Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san 11 RobiHachi 12 Mix: Meisei Story 13 Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!? 14 Chou Kadou Girl ⅙: Amazing Stranger 15 One Punch Man 2nd Season 16 Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine 17 Kenja no Mago 18 Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu 19 Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari 20 Namu Amida Butsu!: Rendai Utena 1 Sarazanmai Omg, this is amazing! The slick af animation, bouncy and eccentric art and the deconstruction of privacy in the name of desire~ I can watch those ridiculous sequences over and over again <3 2 Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin I have a preference for SoLs involving helping out ayakashi. Ofc, this show doesn't fit that to a tee but here I am! Unleashing my bias and letting it show~ 3 Carole & Tuesday This is so chill. The girls are a delight to follow. The setting is just so cool and the premise of 2 girls against the entertainment industry is :blobaww: This is like shounen for people who are tired of action shounens xD 4 Kono Oto Tomare! Kotos are cool. The characters and their dynamics are bliss and gawsh, it's so noble. The goal is clear, we've got a strong grasp on these characters and it's just fun to watch. 5 Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 Part 2 Smashing start. Starts with intrigue, character driving conversation and good kicks. Depending on my mood, it can only get worse or get better. I'm thinking better because we don't have many action series. 6 Kimetsu no Yaiba I'm really savouring the art, the direction. It's like slow-burning coals at the moment but we're beginning to see the splash (pun not intended) and excited to see MC's journey as a fledging demon slayer! 7 Dororo The story kinda lowkey switched focus over to Dororo, and I love that. The morality of the last mini-arc tho... it reminds me again that Hyakkimaru is and will always be driven by revenge and hatred, something I had forgotten recently. 8 Fruits Basket (2019) It's off to a cute start, the VAs are nice. It's a bit messy as it establishes its characters but it'll probably get smoother as it gets into the real nitty gritty of the show. 9 Isekai Quartet Mmm... my school-set crossover of an isekai of isekais has started and so far, it's mostly Konosuba taking center stage on the comedy front. But I trust that everyone will eventually come into their own as this short progresses! 10 Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san Literally this is the fluffiest show of the season... and I mean literally. 11 RobiHachi This is like... the overly average demon spawn between the absurdity of Uchuu Senkan Tiramisu, the plot and progression of Ultraman kids and the character traits of Double Decker: Doug and Kirill... with a dollop of somewhat gay Moretsu Pirates. 12 Mix: Meisei Story The colourful and sarcastic bitching of the collective team about the bureaucracies of a middle school baseball club getting shanked by higher ups is the highlight so far, especially Tachibana Touma. 13 Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!? Man... wouldn't I love a teacher like her, who's everywhere I go because she's lowkey borderline stalking me. The fact that she has many childhood connections to me that I never knew about until now has nothing to do with this equation. Also fuck censors. 14 Chou Kadou Girl ?: Amazing Stranger I'd put it lower on merit of more recent eps but it started off great so here I am, clinging onto hope it can still redeem itself~ Also, these 1/6 scale figurines are kawaii~ 15 One Punch Man 2nd Season The story is as good as it was. The jokes still kinda land. The fights are clearly not of the same ilk. Sharp animation, dynamic camera angles and no frames wasted was replaced by indistinct looped punches, dusty cutaways and standing moments of thought. 16 Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine This is a typical story of a club forming from nothing from the force of will of one MC. Because of the 9 person requirement, they don't mess around, which is nice. 17 Kenja no Mago Today's perks of being an isekai protagonist: ability to innovate unconventional inventions with fictional ideas from the modern world, not having 20+ years worth of experience in the art of "common sense" (yes, I've still chopped off 17 years of him being a hobo) and a shit ton of magic. 18 Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu This is subliminal messaging, that the weird ones (or the ones with exposable secrets) attract each other because they will be easier to befriend. 19 Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari As usual, we get our bad bad guy, atrocity and bad CGI of the arc. They are all separate things. We did get a proper backstory on Raphtalia (which was nothing special, but still solid) and with the recent events... I'm getting hopeful again? 20 Namu Amida Butsu!: Rendai Utena There isn't really a proper SoL this season, this also isn't really an SoL, considering it is about Buddist deities or something, but for now I'm watching it as one, until it will inevitably change its tone. 21 Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai 22 Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki 23 Senryuu Shoujo 24 Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO 25 Bakumatsu: Crisis 26 Strike Witches: 501 Butai Hasshin Shimasu! 27 Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai 28 Fairy Gone 29 Joshikausei 30 Shoumetsu Toshi 31 Araiya-san!: Ore to Aitsu ga Onnayu de!? 32 Gunjou no Magmel 33 Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma 21 Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai I just can't feel sorry for whatever it is that Ao does to herself, but I guess for me that makes it fun. Kijima is pretty cute though, I'm not particularly invested but it has made me lol. 22 Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki The characters are kinda cute and the humor is somewhat crude, but it's certainly not an Asobi Asobase; they're mostly cultural stereotype jokes. 23 Senryuu Shoujo Not that funny, interactions are pretty cute. A girl writes 5-7-5 for everyday conversation... but the gimmick of the show is actually not the girl but a guy that looks like a delinquent going to the literature club. 24 Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO I'm still not entirely sure what it's doing. It's a kinda time travel show with alternative realities, people disappearing and coming out of nowhere. Wait... where's the elf gone? 25 Bakumatsu: Crisis I want to say the worst thing about this is that this 2nd season exists... and I still do. I'm dreading that my enjoyment of this will follow the same path as its predecessor... 26 Strike Witches: 501 Butai Hasshin Shimasu! It's amusing... but the art leaves something to be desired. Although maybe I AM being a bit too harsh on this. 27 Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai Two seasons in a row with the tutor harem malarkey. It's nice this has more focus on the getting good grades thing but my investment is at an all time low. 28 Fairy Gone This is some fancy looking stuff... until you realise you can't make sense out of the story and the director never held your hand for the plot in the first place. 29 Joshikausei I think I can appreciate this... but if you could've found someone with a better grasp of comedic timing. As an aside, I find the image of VAs standing around in a room making noises funny. 30 Shoumetsu Toshi It's like a ripoff of Darker than Black except executed like Fairy Gone. The Sugita curse is strong here. Sidenote: #SupportBikeChan 31 Araiya-san!: Ore to Aitsu ga Onnayu de!? Where mah subs?! D:< 32 Gunjou no Magmel Are you...? Are you making fun of my intelligence? I think you are. No, I'm sure you are. (Trust me, this comment is relevant in both the most literal and meta way possible.) 33 Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma @Selinea 1. Carole & Tuesday 2. Kono Oto Tomare 3. Fruits Basket 4. Sarazanmai 5. Bungou Stray Dogs 3 6. Dororo 7. RobiHachi 8. Kenja no Mago 9. Shoumetsu Toshi 10. Boku-tachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai 11. Shield Hero 12. Senryuu Shoujo 13. Kimetsu no Yaiba 14. Hitoribocchi 15. One Punch Man 2 16. Yatogame-chan 17. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin 18. Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san 19. Fairy Gone 20. Gunjou no Magmel 1. Carole & Tuesday First, casual female friendships! The banter between the two leads is refreshing and feels like something I’d overhear in a café or walking to class. Despite being a sci-fi show set on Mars, the world and society portrayed is extremely familiar, invocative, and inviting. Any technological changes and improvements only serve to highlight that people still fundamentally stay the same, from social media to rude customers to childhood bullies. I also enjoyed the music, and Carole’s singing voice is especially rich and emotive. 2. Kono Oto Tomare This show shows why originality is overrated. Give characters enough backstory/likeability, and it doesn't matter if I've seen this drama a dozen times, I'll fall in love all over again. I guess no matter how old I get, I’ll never grow out of liking a misunderstood bad boy, haha. 3. Fruits Basket I’ve read the manga, which is normally a death-knell for when I watch the anime afterwards (nothing lives up to my own imagination), but the first adaptation was terrible, so this looks great in comparison, so basically…it’s complicated. Fruits Basket also starts off slower, introducing a lot of characters and hints of what’s to come without really reaching the heart of the matter. Overall, I’m happy to have a good shoujo drama, but I lack that extra burst of excitement/obsession that would push it to the top. 4. Sarazanmai The weird imagery/humor is more distracting than really laugh-out-loud to me, but what I really love about this show is the slow unfurling of character details and character interaction that perfectly reflect the theme of connection. Also, for some reason, Sarazanmai reminded me of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 5. Bungou Stray Dogs 3 After a shaky first episode, BSD is back! Episode 3, especially, really bridged the gap between the flashback it opened on and how characters became the way they are today, which is exactly the continuity I was looking for. Looking forward to seeing the full cast next episode though, :) 6. Dororo The episodic fights against demons continue. Some side characters and stories have been more effective than others. My biggest issue is that character development seems to happen in these sudden leaps that's then not sustained/called-back-to enough. I'm not a big fan of any of Tezuka's stuff, so kudos to this adaptation for making Dororo more entertaining and approachable to a modern audience than any other one I've seen thus far. 7. RobiHachi Episode 1 of RobiHachi was amazing since everything was new. The sarcasm of the rabbit butler, Hacchi demonstrating a sudden willingness to go with flow, etc. But just like any other comedy directed by Takamatsu, the great initial concepts give way to inconsistencies and lack of progression. The main characters don’t grow or show any new character traits with any of their new experiences, so while there are still a couple chuckles to be had, each episode feels less fresh than the previous episode. 8. Kenja no Mago I usually don't subscribe to the "so bad it's good" phenomenon, and I've only just realized why. Most shows considered "so bad it's good" were originally serious shows that fail on so many levels some people find them funny, but I only find them boring/annoying. But give me a comedy series that looks/acts even stupider than its already dumb premises, and the hilarity compounds. Kenja no Mago's unintentional layer to its intentional humor is what I enjoy the most about this show. After all these years, I've finally found my "so bad it's good" show. 10. Boku-tachi All my years of avoiding ecchi harem comedies has apparently led me to being susceptive to half-way decent fluff when it comes around. Boku-tachi is a solid/pleasant recombination of existing tropes that I don't have enough exposure to to get annoyed at. 11. Shield Hero I’ll copy my comment from the preview thread: Shield Hero is like low-fat popcorn. Not a particularly filling or great snack, but easy to eat and keep eating every week. This quarter's episodes were especially weak though, as they tried to flesh out the "poor demi-humans" storyline, exposing just how 2D the characters and world building are in the process. 12. Senryuu Shoujo I thought I would enjoy Senryuu Shoujo more than I actually do. The characters are cute, but they have less depth and make less progress per episode than even half an episode of Boku-tachi accomplishes. Senryuu Shoujo is also not particularly funny, with everybody being a one quirk wonder and the quirks being used in very straight-forward, uncreative ways. The 10 minute run-time ensures it doesn't drag too much, and the characters are likeable. The show just doesn't give me enough every week. 13. Kimetsu no Yaiba Everything about Kimetsu no Yaiba has been just a little too cliché and formulaic for me. It’s every medieval fantasy call-to-action and training montage wrapped together in anime form. On top of that, the tonal whiplash in this show is bizarre. Especially apparent in episode 2, the humor detracts from what is supposedly a dangerous situation, but the genuine tragedy in episode 1 makes it hard to give in to black humor, so it’s a tonal no-mans-land that shifts from second to second. Also, main character exceptionalism is always insane in shounens, but Yaiba is definitely pushing my suspension of disbelief on that front too. 14. Hitoribocchi I loathe overly shy characters, so it's a credit to the rest of the show that despite my hatred of the main character, it'll probably still end up with a 7/10. As far as caricatures go, it's toned down enough that, in theory, the characters' underlying emotions are relatable, from meeting strangers to pretending to have your act together. I personally don't feel it, and thus mostly laugh at the pathetic-ness of middle schoolers while relieved I no longer am one, which makes me feel like a bully, but hey, I never claimed to be a particularly charitable person. 16. Yatogame-chan There’s not much to say about a 3-minute short with perpetually late subs. It’s fun to learn about a particular area’s Japanese culture, but the main characters themselves aren’t particularly engaging or endearing, so eh, it's a slightly below average show. I'm overall having a good season if it takes until #16 to hit ~5/10 17. Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin The pacing in this show is all kinds of wrong. Unless you’re a time travel show or purposely playing with flashbacks/flashforwards to make a point, you shouldn’t be literally plastering a date on my screen. I don’t need to know that one scene happens on May 14th and another happens on May 16th. If you can’t even manage to show days are passing organically, your characters and scenes probably don’t deliver a smooth viewing experience. On the whole, I'm just bored/disengaged with this show. Sometimes nothing quite clicks for me and this is one of those times. 21. YU-NO There might actually be a halfway decent plot buried somewhere in YU-NO, but the weird ecchiness and poor pacing ruin it. 22. Joshikausei I would drop this if it wasn't a short. There's so much untapped potential in old school "silent" shows, but instead, we have the mess that this Joshikausei, where the girls still make all manner of weird exhales and squeaks and only the dialogue is actually missing. There's also no humor or likeability to this show. 9. Shoumetsu Toshi As the foil to Kenja no Mago's "so bad it's good," Shoumetsu Toshi is my guilty pleasure of the season. Instead of enjoying the flaws like I do KnM, I genuinely like Toshi despite that it's probably the worst looking show this season. From all the "eye quivers of excessive emotion" to the "FPP shaky camera work”, to quote a meme: Shoumetsu Toshi was so preoccupied with whether or not it could, it didn’t stop to think if it should. That said, I'm curious about the characters' motivations and what "Lost" is all about. I felt the same way after the first few episodes of M3 (and we all know how idiotic the answer to that mystery turned out, right? No? Good, don’t watch M3), so the ultimate reason and catalyst behind Shoumetsu Toshi could equally jump the shark, but for now, I’ll leave this show here. 15. OPM 2 All the issues I had with the first season have not improved in the second. The biggest is the shabby world building. There are no rules or frameworks in this universe, literally anything goes. The show can’t be clever and/or demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking if there’s no box to begin with. Also, something about the delivery in OPM just isn't funny to me. For example, in EP2 when Saitama and Blizzard were talking, I wanted Saitama to speak 20% slower and with a flatter, deadpan voice. There was no sarcasm or “nudge nudge wink wink” to his delivery. And afterwards, despite Blizzard seeing Saitama fight firsthand, she's still claiming he's a weak B class member, and there was no "nudge nudge wink wink" to her delivery either. There was no hint of her trying to save face, the anime/voice actress made it seem like she legit still believed Saitama was weak despite literally just seeing evidence to the contrary. 18. Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san If I see the word “spoil” or “pamper” on my screen one more time, I swear I’m going to put my fist through it. The bigger issue with Sewayaki Kitsune is that it tries to do two very different things. On one hand, it’s wish fulfillment to have a cute fox girl cuddle and do housework for you. But on the other hand, there’s this running thread of realism from where the groceries come from to being worried about pedophilia which then takes you right out of the wish fulfillment. (And the MC also doth protest too much) The poor attempt at realism only goes to show how unrealistic the whole thing is, and this show is not particularly relaxing when I'm reminded of my own housework and how I don't have somebody else to do it for me. 19. Fairy Gone Like all PA originals that I've seen, Fairy Gone has zero sense of organization and flow. At one point, flashbacks went from 491 to 487 to 497 back to 491 in the span of a few minutes. The viewer has no sense of the true chronology, unless they wrote down the years and resorted them in their head. And then the point they were trying to make by making foils of the main characters wasn't even effective with the scenes they chose. Fairy Gone seems to think if it just throws out a list of location names and recites some basic "historical" facts, that's successful world building, ignoring actually fleshing out the countries and different cultures and causes of conflict that ACTUALLY constitute world building. If a middle schooler tried to write a fantasy novel, Fairy Gone is what I imagine the result would be, because the middle schooler in question wouldn't have enough knowledge, research, and world view to do better. I don't know what the writers at PA's excuse is. 20. Gunjou no Magmel The most disappointing show this season; first and foremost, each individual story tries so hard to be sympathetic, and each one falls flat on its face. 1. There's no sympathy because the characters bring it on themselves. Dororo uses themes like famine, war, and oppression to endear the side characters to the audience. In Gunjou no Magmel, tragedy is caused by...charging into a known dangerous area for profit. Whatever your feelings on Christopher Columbus and his family, sympathy is likely not one of them. 2. The OP MC reduces the stakes of the side characters shown. I'm sometimes okay with overpowered characters, but in this case, there's no tension or sadness to the side characters' dilemas when I know the OP can easily take care of everything in Magmel, which makes all the side character struggles seem so stupid and pathetic in comparison. Finally, in three episodes, we've learned almost nothing about the main characters because the interactions with side characters have been so one note. We know the MC is a sarcastic guy who likes pudding, literally no other traits have been displayed yet. @Zerity Attack on Titan S3 part 2 Sarazanmai Hitori Bocchi's ○○ Lifestyle We Never Learn Isekai Quartet Bungou Stray Dogs 3rd Season Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!? Damn I'm really impressed with this ranking. This is orders of magntiude better than Oda class. Step your game up Oda. |

I always knew Toriyama was the superior class :ahoho: But we'll see how it pans out in the following hand ins as the season wears on. As an aside, I honestly don't really care a super amount about any of the shows, but it just felt like Kimetsu no Yaiba at first felt very odd. It certainly surprised me! xD yeah everyone seems to have an opinion on Yaiba. I don't watch it so I have no idea. I only care about Carole & Tuesday. |

I'm pleasantly surprised that Fruits Basket, Kono Oto Tomare and Senryuu Shoujo are high up there. Didn't expect that tbh. |

Carole & Tuesday, Kono Oto Tomare, Sarazanmai and Hitoribocchi in top10, well done! Still cannot understand how Fruits Basket gets so much hype. :bern: Probably because it is reboot? Dunno. |

Impressive 7 out of my personal Top 10, made it here into the Top 10 aswell. And the 3 that didn't make it are 12,13,14 xD. (Justice for RobiHachi btw. :weep:) Also my personal Number #1 is the overall Number #1 aswell and all of the Top 4 were in my Top 5. So yeah I can say I am extremly happy with this list. xD |

Isekai Quartet was much lower though, I had that at #2 but ended up 12th.I'm pleasantly surprised that Fruits Basket, Kono Oto Tomare and Senryuu Shoujo are high up there. Didn't expect that tbh. Well it's kinda understandable for Fruits Basket since it's a reboot of a quite popular series but I never expected Kono Oto Tomare being that high because I never heard anyone talking about it tbh. Most of my friends on MAL aren't even watching it and it's pretty low on the seasonal page too. Which is odd considering how great the character build-up was so far. Well at least the score is rising now, so here's hope for more people to find out about how good this show is :3 |

It doesn't deserve it! :triggered: Everything here (including characters) is so futsuu. Okey, maybe this Zodiac stuff can be more interesting and thats what I'm hoping for. |
