DON'T READ THIS THREAD unless you've finished the entire show.

So at the end of episode 7, a large spherical light is seen. Ryo completely flips out when he sees this.
What I was wondering was who emitted the large white light ball attack? Was it Ryo's self defense mechanism as seen in episode 8 and 10, or was it God launching an attack on the nukes/demons?

If it's Ryo, it only makes sense if the nukes were heading his way. But IIRC he was in Japan while the nukes were going towards Russia.
If it's God, then it does make sense why Ryo freaks out. He has seen an attack from God before, so he probably got some PTSD for large spherical lights.

What do you guys think?

As far as I remember, I concluded it was God. As you said, it makes more sense that way. At the same time, I find it strange that God didn't intervene after that anymore, allowing humanity to be exterminated. I wonder if he had a reason for acting this way.

God did attack again though. After Akira died and Ryo was breaking down, the entire planet was hit with the light so there was no one left at the end is what I took from it.

I think it hinted that humanity would start over though like it did before.

You're right; I didn't think of that for some reason. I suppose God thought that instance of humanity wasn't worth saving.

I mean, how I got it was that the goal was to make satan feel sadness and pain through love and humanity which was something he didnt care for at all, while also starting earth and humanity all over again.

So I guess god just popped in to have his own plan go as smoothly as possible. And then at the end just wiped everything for real to start anew

Heh, I think it leaves open for another season, if there ever is going to be another one (I'm aware it's actually a pretty old anime / manga, and this was sort of a reboot?).
