Hello guys I need your opinion regarding Gintama.

I have only watched 27 episodes of the 1st season of gintama.
Although its good (especially some brief serious moments with some drama in every episode) but its humor is mostly hit and miss for me uptil now.

I plan to watch the whole series eventually but at the moment wanted to give English Dub a try

So my question is:
Can I start watching Gintama 2015 series? Would it make sense or would I miss certain plot elements or character introductions?

Your response will be much appreciated . Thanks

You would miss most of the character introductions. First season of Gintama has very important character introductions and story development. And Gintama (2015) has very important arcs at the end of the series that you won't understand a thing if you don't watch older seasons. If you finish it before the season 1 or 2, older episodes would be boring. And Gintama's first season picks up the pace about 50th episode or so.

So, the answer is, I reccomend you watch older seasons and then the new season chronogically. You can watch 3rd season but you'll feel like you've missed something. And you will eventually watch Gintama (2015). Be patient and enjoy the series ^^

It's completely doable. I actually did it, I watched Gintama 2015 first, then the Gintama movies, then Gintama', then Enchousen, then the first season (the 200 episode one, which I'm still working through).

I would recommend this, though: watch at least the first Gintama movie about the Benizakura arc, BEFORE watching Gintama 2015. That is the first major serious arc in Gintama and will give you just barely enough background to functionally understand what's going on in the second half of Gintama 2015.

EDIT: And I love Gintama, so watching it in this order didn't adversely affect my opinion of the series.

You can get by for about 20 episodes (as they're mostly episodic comedy but there are a lot of characters you should know at that point), but I don't recommend watching Gintama (2015) because it enters one of its major arcs that relies heavily on prestablished story and characters.
To be honest, if you don't enjoy the first 50-ish episodes then I don't think Gintama is for you.

Don't do it. It means you can understand Gintama but not empathize with it. Gintama is character-driven rather than plot driven, even in serious arcs, so getting close with the characters is vital to enjoyment of the show. Which is why you need as much comedy episodes as possible to understand the mentality of these characters, not to mention the first 200 episodes cover most of the character introduction. Some side character would just pop out suddenly in a serious arc and you'd have no idea who they are.
